Hey mike, great vid, but I think a VERY big deal missing on the vid was the ability to use MIDI gear with the iPad. I think that's a huge deal and advantage the iPad has over most of tablets, and even computers, since it is such a powerful machine.
I don't usually say that a review is good. But I would say this is incredibly great. Very spontaneous and straight to the point. I give a thumbs up!
Not supporting documents and other file type transfer is a big bummer here. As much as I enjoy using my ipad, my old nexus 7 tablet was really handy when I could just attach a thumb drive to the USB adapter and copy PDF's, spread sheets, word docs, etc to use on the tablet on the go.
I feel like apple is making me jump through numerous hoops for me to achieve what should otherwise be a very simple task :\
Requiring me to install Itunes and manually sync files that way is a pain, especially when the person I'm getting files from may not have itunes installed on their computer.
Only other way I've seen is to do something like a google drive or drop box upload and then download the file on the ipad that way.
Android devices may have their fair share of headaches but easy file manipulation isn't one.
I agree fully. Apple is behind on this issue.
+FastRedPonyCar Yes, I am not happy either. I love photography and like to use my dSLR camera to take pictures, and would sometimes like to upload them to Facebook through my iPhone. However they have specifically made it so that I cannot download pictures to the iphone. I guess if I really wanted to I would have to also lug around an iPad just to transfer pictures from my camera to the ipad, then I can transfer the pictures from the ipad to my iphone. Just so I can upload pictures to social media. Or I can pay for a data plan for an ipad and upload directly from the iPad. I bought the more expensive apple products because it seemed like they were designed to work very well with few issues, but there seems to be no technical reason for this to not work on an iPhone, other than for maybe business reasons maybe--making you have to own both an iPad and an iPhone instead of just one. I'm sure Android would have a much simpler solution, but why would Apple make things easier for its customers when they make such a ridiculous amount of money off of them.
Another thing--they make it very impractical to use an iPad as a shared device within one household--you are basically set up with all your login info for email, facebook etc. pertinent for that device only. So apparently they expect everyone in the family to have their own $600 tablet. First world problems huh!
+E Ray I ended up getting a nexus 6p and the file transfer problem is a breeze now (and the phone is outstanding as well)
I have a transcend card reader that terminates to a micro usb plug and then use a little micro usb to type C adapter, plug into the phone and then just use android's file browser to copy the files I need from the SD card (I can preview them before copying) and then put them into specific folders wherever I need to on the nexus's internal storage.

there is a tons of adapters for android devices and they allow you to upload and download files from your android devices without any restrictions out of the box, not only photos and videos.
Search for micro usb OTG for micro usb. Or whatever connector you have on your android device if it's not micro USB.
Thanks for the hub tip, saved me from returning my brand new Lightning to USB camera adapter because I thought I’d bought the wrong thing because Apple’s own website is quite confusing. Now it’s working like a dream. 👍🏻😁
With iOS 13 These devices have moved such a long distance........... incredible!!!
i don't know about this, until me saw ipad pro 2018 with usb type-c port .. I think the ipad with linghtning port can't do read and import file from extend storage (USB, HDD, SD carrd)
@@ninhluyen8675 the devices with lightening port when used with the appropriate dongle could do everything like iPad pro with usb-C...Already videos available on RUclips...just search...Ty...TC...
@@AbidKhan-lr5wb Thanks you ! I have a idea buy combo IPad pro 12inch 2017 , Apple pencil version 1. I was considering about compatibility of lightning cable with another accessories like SD, USB .
Mike you are the best unboxer and reviewer ever!!!!!!!!!! You are the best!!!!!!
Why would you want to transfer photos or videos to ipad? Id export to the SD to put them on a computer.. doesnt make sense. Editing pics or videos on ipad doesnt make sense.
I believe you explored this on early iPad but I have explored these options as well on Android tablets they work much easier with less peripherals great vid
this adapter does NOT work, bought 2 diff ones, diff ipad minis....STILL doesnt work
guy who ones one said same, had to return it, doesnt Fing work
Does it work the other way like if I wanted to moves pic and vids from my iPad to an flash drive?
sunnylove26
He never answered...
IT works
Good to know. I have the old camera connection kit and may replace my ipad next year. I would just need the 30 pin to lightning adapter and I would then have a connection kit that would work with my old iPad 2 and ipad 5.
does it support an external hardrive as well?
It's good to know the lightening adapter -> old camera connection kit method works. I was wondering about that. Though I have no plan to buy a new CCK (I have the old one), I might someday pick up the adapter. In the long run it should be cheaper, since the new CCK is being sold as two separate units.
I have the lighting usb camera adapter i connected to my phone an the charger to my camera but on the camers it says mass storage ... what does that mean ? It shows up on my phone with the pictures but not the videos ... ??? Im confused
Thanks for clearing up about other documents not being supported. I know they are camera connects but it would have been nice to be able to upload word/pages documents.. might have to screenshot the document to get around this. Thanks big help.
I NEED to know if it works for videos. If not how can I get videos from a camera to my iPhone. Without computer of any sort. Probably impossible but worth asking. Please reply, thanks
would i be able to open the imported files in third part app store applications like imovie? typically videos editors? please help
If you are traveling, or otherwise don't have your computer close by, and just want to show people the photos you just took on a larger screen than your camera's LCD, this would do the job. Editing photos on the iPad would probably be better than on the camera, but yes, the computer would be the best option if it's handy.
I want one of these adapters, but SoftwareHome below says it doesn't work in iOS 7. Will have to check on that.
We miss you, DetroitBorg!
neat video
one of my friends just bought the 4th gen iPad and I am sure she would like to see this video as it is informative of what the iPad can do with the usb and cardreader adapters
If you jailbreak your iDevice, then you'll be able to take advantage of more features! My favourite feature is the ability to connect an external hard drive. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DEVICE WILL ONLY ACCEPT IF THE HARD DRIVE OR FLASH DRIVE IS FORMATTED IN EITHER HFS+ (Mac Journaled) OR FAT32 (Standard Portable File System such as a flash drive).
External storage components in exFAT format will not be detected/work!
I have a USB card reader that I use to transfer the photos and videos on my MS Pro Duo (for my digital camera) to my desktop computer. Can I use the USB adapter to plug my USB card reader into to transfer images from my Pro Duo onto my iPad mini? Thanks!!
but, can i transfer photos and videos that i took on my ipad camera and send it to SD so i can transfer it to my PC's SD card Reader?
Cool, last question. could you attach a regular usb SD card adapter in conjunction with the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter to avoid buying both?
mike you are the best tech reviewer ever! ever!!!!!!!!!!!
i like your reviews very much for any unboxing or review video i will search in your channel first
and one more think i am planning to buy iPhone 5 which colour is best option according to your preference
Will you be able to use your iPad as a monitor with the camera adapter??
I see this was 5 years ago and my reader used to work like this. I bought a new one thinking the old one didn’t work anymore only to discover it’s not working on any iPad or even my iPhone now. I have two newer iPads and it’s not working on either one? I downloaded an app and it says device detached? Any new info?
I have A 5d mark 2 can I connect with my iPhone XR for video transfer ?
Why I'm only able to transfer about 1,7G of video files from SD card reader to my iPad 7? It says transfer error, missing files. Feels like the reader goes to sleep after a minute or so and it can't transfer all the files. Very annoying.
It works! Just imported a beautiful picture taken in Venice with my GoProHero3 in my iPad Pro, using Aukey USB 3.0 Hub (model CB-H18)!
Hey you have me confused. You say in your video that this cable will work to move video and pictures from my iPhone to my mini, then at the end of your video you say no it will not work
Here is an interesting question, can i use the USB adapter to connect USB headphone to an apple device that supports lightning charger adapter?
Can you sync photos and videos from iPad to an SD card?
This video resolved all the problems I've had for several weeks! Definitely worth subscribing!
I have an ipad air 2 and iphone 6 plus. I just wanted to know if the USB adapter would works well with these 2 devices? thank you so much
It won't let the videos show up like when I import them they're just the sound what do I do
can i connect a camera to the usb connector without removing the sd card from the camera? and does the sd card adaptor work with sd xc cards?
I think there might be a problem with sdxc cards, I think the best desition Is to get a SandDisk Wireless usb flash drive (it has a microsd slot) and you stream videos and transfer files through wi-fi to any device.
How can i use the iPad As a Monitor for the Camera?
Is this device compatible with the new iPad Air ('Ipad 5' with IOS 7)?
And which is more fast in importing photos, a SD card or an USB adapter? I find that an SD adapter is more comfortable to use because the camera doesn't need to lay around the iPad, but what is about speed?
Would I be able to to use the USB adapter to transfer movies from the USB to the adapter? Would I have to use the hub? Great video
It would be useful to have an app that lets you use this device to off-load media from the iPad onto SD cards in the field top free up internal storage.
Can I use it as a external storage for movie and watch it without storing the movie on the iPad ?
Connecting an external microphone overrides the internal one, connecting an external keyboard overrides the virtual keyboard on the iPad screen, so does connecting an external webcam override the internal camera?
Might be a silly question but I'm getting my first iPad for Christmas and it's my first apple product, would I be able to connect my 2tb hard drive with external power source to a USB/lightning connector so I could transfer movies to the iPad from hard drive?
Wow, your CX160 is very similar to my SX45, although yours is much better.
i need this for iphone 5?? is there a product.. would this work??
dose the cable work on iPhone 6 plus ?
Can you use a external hard drive on this? And play music through this cable?
Would it make sense to just buy the old adapter and the converter instead of luggin around a usb hub everywhere? Also does this usb connection allow for the importing of .doc files
Can you explain, the way how you connect a USB to your iPad in special Video? I mean with different USB hubs.
Im reading that some people can't import their photos from a lighting to sd card camera reader, without reformatting the card. You have to create a DCIM folder first then the connector will recognize it and then upload the photos. Is this true? Thank you.
thanks for the reply im just wondering because i want to use a better camera ipads front camera is not that good when im using it on skype
With go pro hero 2 found I pad 4 only view sd card hc (below 32 gb) not xc ( over 32gb like 64gb) cards. Like what flashy gap has said below.
do i need the usb to camera adapter to usb hub for it to work or can i just use the usb charger that came with the ipad and plug that into the usb hub?
So I can get the SD card reader and transfer my photos from my DSLR and work with them LightRoom or not, and from there I can put them in my Dropbox while I'm on vacation?
Great video.... answered all my questions about transferring images to iPad, old and newer generations... Thank you
Does it exists a portable way to connect an iPad to a portable hard drive ?
Like a battery charghed hub ?
I had a third party lightning camera kit, it stopped working after the iOS 7 update. And so i went to apple store to purchase one of these, but same thing, wouldnt work with my ipad mini on ios 7. Even tried with other ipads on same ios to no avail. Test before buying this.
I understand the part about the USB hub needed to be able to access USB drives
but my question is focused on the media aspect
like say I want to watch AVI/MKV/whatever files, do I need to do anything beforehand on the iPad to be able to watch the files or will the iPad not be able to do so?
Im leaving for China soon and i don't feel like busting out my 1st gen mac book pro w/ battery issues on the 16+ hr plane ride and deal with long cables and such everywhere
Will I be able to watch films through photos that I have on a USB device ?
You have to transfer to file (mp3/video) into the Ipad to be able to access them? it won't let yo just play the file without transferring it?
Can the powered hub charge the iPad while a USB mic or other device is plugged in?
Mike when you make your videos could you say when your next video is coming out please!
Can you take photos from iPad to the flash drive or just from the flash drive to iPad?
Still work on ios 11?
I watched your video I have the Lightning SD card Works Great. But what do I need to read documents I was told to purchase iPhoto app ? Looking for some help thank you. Giuseppe
do I need to import the photos from SD to iPad to watch them in fullscreen? or I can watch without import?
Hi, great review. One question will you be able to use any sd cards from any cameras like gopro for video. Thanks
Hey can you do a iPad mini full review? Thanks
Nice video. Because my mom's phone doesn't have any storage on her iPhone 6 due to tons of pictures, is it possible to purchase this USB thing and transfer the photos from her phone to a USB flash drive?
did you think of this by the thirdly pin kit and buy a thirdly pin to lighting and save some money
Who’s watching in 2024?😂
what i want to do is to dwnld pic or vidz from ipad to the SD card or to the flash drive. can that be done ? so i believe it will be "exporting" files to the drives. please advise.. thanks ! very clear vidieo !
Can the iPad read Canon RAW and/or Nikon NEF files natively? Also wondering if the iPad can play back 1080p files that come out directly from say a Canon DSLR without re-compressing the file again.
i got a question how long does it work..
i mean copy time ...
like many photo n video
copy version for ipad3 work only 3minutes
Like can I connect any camera to my iPhone and edit it then post to youtube
Wonderful video, can I also shoot photos on my iPad with this USB camera adapter connection?
thats pretty kool man. still contemplating selling my ipad 3 32gb for ipad mini 64gb. not sure about the screen though
ok i have a drone and im looking to boost fpv wifi range so can i use this lightning to USB on my i pod to plug in a USB wifi range extander
Awesome review! You really covered these connectors in depth. I personally think the price for the cables are a complete and utter scam. The price is too high and you don't get enough bang for your buck. This is one of the reasons many people including me don't like the lightning connector, it is too costly. I would say that this device will be more interesting when the jailbreak scene takes advantage of it. I look forward to that day. Thumbs up from me as usual.
I am pretty sure those prices are reasonable actually. This isn't just a cable, its a whole chip fitted in that tiny space that does all the work and just gives the ipad the finished result. Its unreasonable when you look at otg connectors nowadays... lightning is pretty expensive and wasteful to run.
Does the lightning to 30pin adapter support the 30pin sd card reader? You showed it worked with the usb one but not the sd card.
thats pretty sick... im getting an ipad mini for Christmas! cant wait!
still helpful even in 2020 😅 thanks
DOES A MICROPHONE WORKS WITHOUT A USB HUB?? OR DO YOU NEED THE USB HUB WITH EXTERNAL POWER??
WHEN YOU CONNECT THE TWO GENERATIONS ADAPTERS, THE LIGHTING TO PIN AND PIN TO USB, YOU USE THE MIC TO SHOW THIS, IN THIS CASE, IT DOESNT SEEMS TO BE A USB HUB CONNECTED, CAN YOU PLEASE JUST TELL ME THIS??? THANKS AND REGARDS
Very short but comprehensive video, thank you👍🏻
Hi. I heard you can watch those non
mov files on your sd card reader but
you need to jail break it and put the
file name in a format to resemble a
picture using a program called
"cydia"... That's what I heard. I don't
know how to do it myself. I am not jail
breaking my ipad 4. If you learn how
to do it, let me know...
Whats the point if you need power for half of the things you want to sync to it
I have the SD card but could it work just with the SD card without the USB thing
And I have the normal iPad mini
The Typical Bat yes it will
This is off topic but can you make another ipod nano 7th generaton video
can you also export files from your iPad to a USB with that cable?
Will it work with with my external drive that has external powersupply?
Great videos! Keep it up!
Will the import compress the photos to your phone? For example, a photo from the sd card is 12mb, after import, will the photo be full resolution, or does it compress it to like 500kb or 1mb? I want full resolution and not 500kb
Help please & reply.
Hi, do we need the power usb hub for the microphone to work? Or do we just need the usb adapter for the iPad?
Hello,
I would like to ask if I understand it right..
1) SD lightning: is able to import or play Data easily from any SD Card
--> WITHOUT some other extra power energy..
2) USB lightning: is able to import or play Data from any USB Flash Drive (External HDD)
--> only WITH some other extra power energy (USB Hub)??
Data = pictures, movies, songs
Many Thanks for your quick and clear answer..

Will this work with an ipad mini 2 because im considering buying it when i edit photos from an app
can it read mp4 videos with all resolutions (for example 640x360 or 480x270... or others resolutions) ???
I have a remote control helicopter and I am looking at getting a camera to go underneath it and the camera has a micro SD card. If I buy an SD adapter, or in other words kind of like a tray which the Micro SD sits in to make it the same size as a normal SD card will it work with my iPad 4 via the lightening to SD reader? Thanks.
Yes, I do this for my go pros which use the small sad cards.
Can I connect a Ethernet to usb adaptor? And it will get the Ethernet connection by cable?
