我去了一趟商店，但是商店关门了。结果白跑了一趟。
"I went to the store, but it was closed. So I made a trip for nothing."
I love this expression: 白跑一趟 ("make a trip for nothing").
Once I learned that, I never forgot the use of 趟.
Or the use of 白 ("white") with the alternate meaning "in vain".

in the 10 days since i started Chinese i realised that 2 things are virtually countless: Han Zi, and this guy's friends 😂😂
can someone provide some examples for using 下 as a measure word for verbs?
Please help. I have a question. In this sentence "今天我们(打)电话打了两次", can we delete the FIRST 打 verb (the same as we can delete the first 吃 in this 得 construction: “我(吃)饭吃的很高兴“) 。I know we can't delete the SECOND 打 because 电话 is not a person/place.
