- The owner of keen ramps, Cory keen shows us a thing or 2 about building ramps as he try to build a 3 x 8 foot mini ramp in just 1 hour while giving away trade tips and secrets.
I have been debating on getting my kids a mini ramp but debated on if I could do it myself. I have an extensive carpentry background so I now know I’m good lol
U can do it no problem then just watch a few videos than build
Same with my dad but we have to wait maybe a month
nicely done.
I built myself a 4'x16' miniramp in high school. Had a 5'x4' extension on both ends, and an 5' to 4' escalator on one of them. Awesome experience. Wish I had the money at th etime for Skatelite, but found that G1S Fir 1/4" plywood provided a relatively good riding surface up here in Canada for the money.
Makes me want to buy a new house and build another one in my 30s
I built similar. It was in the middle of essentially a kudzu jungle in NC. I spent a whole summer just making a concrete & 4x4 foundation for it. That was something like 60 3 ft deep postholes. I covered it whenever possible with a huge tarp. it wa skateable for roughly 10 yrs. Within another 10 the jungle had reclaimed it, and the 4x4 posts of the foundation, completely and there was no sign it was ever there.
This type of craftsmanship is so dope. Guy has definitely skated these ramps and knows what's up!
YES SIR
I feel like if Dan wasn't there talking and distracting him, he would've done it in time.
not to mention the 27 phone calls, texts, and face times he got lmao
Just ordered a 2x4 quarter pipe can’t wait for it to arrive
I got one it’s so much fun you’ll get so much better I’ve learned tail taps, rock n rolls rock fakies on just 20 days
@@Bck2647 mine arrived I’ve got axle stalls and rock to fakies I’m tryna get rock and rolls but sprained my ankle trying

I’m not sure who the boss is, I only ever see the one guy working 😂, love you guys this is cool
The most unbelievable thing about this video: "This is my oldest shirt. I think I got it five or six years ago" Damn dude. I have shirts like 15 years old.
Same lol 5 years is nothing for shirts
he cant cut corners b/c its half a circle.
I hope the next time you put ketchup on a hotdog the ketchup water comes out first
@@flykingduke2145 I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic. But. In the case you're being dead ass, I don't put ketchup on hotdogs. "Who goes there?" I don't know but I know It doesn't go there.
CAN HE BUILD A HALFPIPE IN 1HR BY HIMSELF?!
No 🤣🤣🤣
This is inspiring as hell because I've been putting off building a mini-ramp for 15 years thinking it would be an insurmountable task. Amazing! Thanks for the tricks/tips/hints!
I just watched a 35 minute video
Quite the accomplishment lol
Same😎
Ditto"
I don't even skate and I watched the whole thing
Wow that’s incredible, I’m so proud of you!!!congratulations !!!
Video popped up after a berrics vid. Hella deserve the subscription! Cool, intelligent, devoted skaters killing it! Super chill and fun to watch
nope! super kooks
Props to you guys for making it a kit style..back in the 80s in Long Beach we built a 6 foot halfpipe in my friends backyard..took us 4 days...lol
My old man built a 12x16 ramp with a 4" transition with a 5" extension on one side in vancouver and because of the rain the last time I was involved in re-sheeting we put tar paper between each layer 3 layers, two of ply and 1 of paperface to cost save away from skatelite. Rain and masonite don't mix.
The ramp was pretty damn noisy when rolling on it, which wasn't really an issue, but that was pretty much entirely eliminated by first the tar paper, but second, and more substantially, putting each sheet of plywood at a 45 degree angle and alternating direction every layer. Added benefit to the 45 degree layers is there is legitimately no flex whatsoever. Not something you notice until you actually roll it, but it felt way better afterwards and if he had neighbors that cared you could roll all night barring the coping noise. Only downside is the amount of extra work cutting the 45s.
In 15 minutes you earned my like and my sub, holy shit this man just hustled hard. His super power is time manipulation 100%
That shirt text though, instant classic!
The next free ramp video should be a quarter pipe
or a kicker
Free kicker video is already in the works!
Yeah
Like this wasn't a quarter pipe. Hahaha
yew congrats on the new ramp, dude!
Quarter pipe build challenge needs to happen!
Worth watching for that T-cross beam tip alone.
You should try using pressure treated lumber and flash the ply build up under the last layer. Really great design though. 👍
Sooo 60 min divide by 6 people...will we see a 10 minute half pipe install, i wanna see a half pipe install done like F1 tyre changes ftw!! Good job guys.
6:30 when you discover a new trick during a speedrun that costs you time but it's worth it
Hi from Texas! Great video!
With a child laborer you could have built that ramp in 45 minutes
lol wtf
Lol
Exactly! I'll just wait until the next time my 15 year old daughter is grounded and I'll have a mini ramp built!
@@willyjilly9684 okg haha
With 50 child laborers this bad boy could be done in 3 minutes
And to this day... we still don't know if it's square!?!?
Me and my dad are gonna make a mini ramp. And this video helped. So we are not buying one from u it’s just we don’t have the money right now but hopefully we will get something from u guys in the future. Thx for the video!!!
I referenced this so many times when I was building my keen 3x8.
@keenramps. The main thing I wanted to see was how you make the prefect angel for your quarter / half pipe. But your side peices were already made
Any tips you can give me?
As soon as you said Dale's name I thought about how much you all look alike lmao
Best mini ramp build (assemble) video ever! Dale is a kook! (Jk) I frame with guys that will one hand carry 2 sheets 3/4" or 4 sheets 1/2" up a 32' ladder and run up a 12/12 all day BEASTS! I've been doing pro assembly for most of the last year ..this is my dreamm job. Would love to build parks but concrete isn't my thing. You guys should hire me for Utah.. I have the finest Makita tools btw ..lots of them 🔥
"That lonely cat lady who wants a miniramp" thanks for the brutal attack 🤣😭🤣
At 26:17 You can either buy a senco gun, or senco attachment for whatever drill you have. A lot of companies make their own brand now also. I use them all the time for dryall and decking. You will fly through the sheathing install! Great video, I grew up building ramps and then got into flipping houses. Thank you skateboarding!
Good to know! Thanks dude, will definitely look into that
@@keenramps No problem, glad to help.
such a good idea to have all the wood pre-cut and drilled/counter-sunk instead of just doing it as you go. then later in the workflow when you get problems like twisted/warped timber you fix it the right way instead of working around it..if i ever build a ramp again seems like the way to go
Honestly love the vibe of the people in this video.
why are you posting at 1200 am? i love the stache bro.
time zones
@@mnnmnnnnnnn but flat earth doesn't allow for that
when you put the plywood down do you put screws in the middle of the plywood
You should make a video about building a mini ramp for free😀
Qtr pipe at least
Used to borrow wood from construction sites but now a days cameras are every were lol
I’m actually attempting this right now, semi-inspired by the free ledge video and my wife saying no to spending 500$ on materials. It’s based on pallets stacked up like a staircase and then cut off on the back end to the correct length. Personally I used some leftover ply I had to cut the template which I screw into each ramp side to stagger the pallets correctly, but not sure it needs that much care.
Not sure how it’s gonna turn out as no matter what you do it’s pretty hard to come by free decent sheets of plywood. Also you trade expense for a ton of weight which is good in that you get more structural integrity than one would expect from a mini ramp built from refuse. But if you don’t have a ton of space and want to be able to store the thing... well let’s just say I’ll see how it turns out.
I would love to see keen ramps do a free mini ramp video though to get some inspiration or even try my idea. They’ll be done much faster than me working on it in my spare time.
Super impressive Boys! Great work
I already watched this video like 5 minutes after it was uploaded
What is the lenght of this ramp from coping to coping?
Or said in another way: what is a recomended length for halfpipes?
"And all do back tails" 😄
F"n Dail am I right?
I too have a blinking tick. I call it the itchy eye.
Hello ! Great video :))) could you tell the exact lowering for that size of the ramp I would like to build one like this
Very impressive !
Yo keenramps, what's your coping reveal measurement on this ramp? Thanks guys.
sorry for the massive lag on this reply but our standard reveal is 1/4" on top and 1/8" on the face
THIS video was my introduction to Keen Ramps!
Even if he did it in a day it would be impressive!!!! Great video
No chance. Took me and my boss 4 days to build a 13 high 30 foot wide vert ramp.
Can’t get your stuff in the uk but these videos are helping me learn to make my own stuff
I carry 7 its the magic number..no? Try what up. Lol 😆 I been waiting for this one for a while you guys are awesome 👌 work thanks rinerliner thats me lol
U can carry under or rolling up to your shoulder with ease
Thanks for the support dude!
How much are the mini ramps because I am saving up for one❤
When someone shows up with a decent amount of makita equipment they are most likely serious about their trade..
Do you think one of these but with skatelite would hold up through the winters in Milwaukee WI?
My 9 year old is wanting a mini ramp. I may be ordering one of these soon?
Dan, ive always had a problem getting the ply down on my ramps curves without it cracking or some of the ply splitting. Whats the secret?
Better ply, the support beams closer to the transition. Smoother transition. There's a number of possibilities just depends, be easier to help with video or pics of the ramps
Make sure you’re getting 3/8” ply rather than 1/2” and bend it the short way. Plywood only bends the 4’ way. It’s also a good idea to have ribs at least every 8 inches and then “T” up the 2x4s as shown in this video where ever the seams meet (aka where the end of the plywood on a transition meets another sheet of ply). Hope this helps!
@@keenramps yep we used 1/2 inch. And our ribs are like 12" oc haha. You'd laugh at the bend in the ply as you skate it. Shouldnt be too bad to fix. I want to resurface it entirely now.
I'm subbing for sure !! Keep up this content
I wanna build ramps for a living again some much fun
"well at least mike v did it" lmfao
Can I do the assembly challenge for a free mini pipe ?
This looks like it will fit in my small yard,i know its 8 foot wide but how long is it from back to back🤘🤘
it's 22' 8" overall in length
So is the coping just connected by a single screw on each side?
Do you do repairs if the ramp that you build for a client has any issues or it just gets damaged over the session? Like an insurrance type of deal
I promise you the do not
i'm coming to california to work with you guys..
Do you guys sell the plans for your ramps?
The triplet game of name that guy. That would be funny awesome, do bald caps and same clothes. Going to get a slappy curb for sure, when Ohio warms up. Always dream about a kidney pool, vert ramp, and spine mini. Wanted those since I was a kid. Keep up the great work Man.
Definitely wanna do the triplet game with Cory, dan, and dale! Thanks for the support
Just edit this to show him carrying some 2x4s, screwing a few, banging something with the drill, screwing some plywood, then the owner dropping in, it’s a Facebook Short
What's the name of that skate academy? I just bought a 3.5x12 from you guys, installed. If Dan is the one who comes and installs it, I'll pay for some lessons too ;)

Yo, I wanna work for you guys! Open your east coast Upstate New York branch! This is so badass

I was hoping for more skating footage after the build but great vid nonetheless!
Anyone have schematics for a mini ramp like this
Anyone know why they can just drill straight in without pilot holes? Very new to all this stuff
I would love to do this as a second job or once I retire a full time.
Better retire young
How do you know where to pre drill the screws did he measure or is it eyeballing ???
pre drilled... all done in a shop...all the cuts...everything...modular! IKea style... no soul!
Actually very reasonable
Does keen ship anywhere in the country or just California?
we ship throughout the US
How fast does that rot being on dirt and concrete?
How long would it take from absolute start to finish with cutting the transitions, cutting the lumber, pre-drilling, etc? Anyway, just for assembly, this is pretty impressive. I work best with coffee and punk rock
We do them in batches so it’s hard to give an exact time estimate. Cutting the sides takes approximately 30 min, countersinking the top layer another 45 or so, cutting the ribs approx 20-30 min; pre-drilling the holes about 20 min, painting the ramp is approx 30-45 min. Roughly 3 hours to prep this size ramp with a helper. You thinking about building your own?!
@@keenramps just finished up a quarter pipe with a roll-in, bank and manual pad with ledge for a buddy. One issue I had though is that certain spots in the plywood seemed to bubble when I bent it. How do you handle that? I'm sure it's just crappy quality plywood. I live in Mali so these might be the first ones built here. I'm getting ready to do a miniramp and then a skatepark after that.
@@keenramps bullshit! stop lying to these people!
What’s the name of the plastic sheet on top?
too much teasing you wouldve drove me crazy lol
Technically a win!!
The ramp our boss bought, when I put the sheets on, 80% of the dots didn't hit a stud fyi
How much does something like that cost?
My son want a mini ramp
I just watched this on the crapper, it cut off my leg circulation after 35 minutes, I can barely stand now or walk
how much was all the supplies??

what lenght is the flat bottom.
Dan is pretty much Kramer at this point.
You work here??
How much does bro charge for the 3×8?
I wish this video existed 3 weeks ago before I built my ramp like a cat lady. I would definitely not suggest building a ramp alone.
How did you figure out measurements for things. Im thinking of building my own
@@AAC14156 I had to fit my ramp in a garage, so I made a spreadsheet. I could change the radius, flat bottom, decks, etc. And make sure it fit. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CrVR0xiI4Bt6PjkrNbSSf4DuDbIq8gQea6pV-PSFBcQ/edit?usp=drivesdk
