@conor mccormack there is a reason why your comment has no likes. And that reason is, that you are so dumb, that very, very few people match your level of stupidity. You are a grade a piece of shit.
Someone asked why the Marines don't salute back when general Hummel salutes. The fact is that he is the one that has to salute them. An honorable officer or non commissioned officer will always salute the honor guard. Honor guards provide funeral honors for fallen comrades. The honor guard also saluted him as well, they carried their rifles on their right shoulders and as he saluted they saluted by moving their rifles out in front of them, in the military that is how you salute with a rifle.
***** You Don't Present Arms while marching. Present Arms is standing drill, not marching drill. Only the Officers present arms while marching. (Due to Officers having Ceremonial Swords)
Well, as far as i know for the US Armed Forces the Honour Guard don't have a verbal command for saluting an Honorary Officer while they march with the Colours (Regimental Flag and the National Flag, Colours is just how we say it in Canada.) They instead just typically touch the rifle's butt while marching with their right hand as if they were going to do a Present Arms Command, but instead the drill movement stops there. (I might be wrong as to how the US do it, im used to Canadian Drill, Which is much different.)
It actually has nothing to do with the Honor Guard, it's the fact that the Colors are not cased, meaning the flag they are holding while processing. Regardless of rank, the ensign is always saluted. It could've been a Pvt holding the flag and the BGen would still have to salute. The notion of salute has nothing to do with dominance, its respect. Saluting an officer is for their legal authority, returning the salute is their respect for those they lead. It's mutual. Rah.
Kevin Lynch Correct it doesn't matter what rank is present they have to salute the ensign is always saluted and yes it is out of respect for the fallen Marine, it has nothing to do with rank.

One of the great Movies in the 90s :)
THANK YOU!!! My brother is a Marine, PFC as an Arty guy!! I don't know any other way to express my gratitude than to thank you!! My brother knows what he's doing, so it's all good. What's on your uniform is nothing compared to the person you are! Good luck to you, in all you do, thank you!!
Unbelievable intro! Every time I’ve seen this when I hear the soldier say “ they’re not coming for us are they sir” it breaks my heart!
Hans Zimmer never ceases to amaze and Michael Bay’s best job as director 😊❤
The music across this whole movie is legendary. This is only the tip of an awesome iceberg.
Their not coming are they sir? Worst shit you ever want to hear in combat, served for 6 years,Rangers lead the way
One of the most finest introduction ever to any movie made and the music made it even more a win.
Ed Harris and David Morse are really some of good actors. The movie is intense all the way to the end.... And this THeme is also one of the finest piece of tone.... Well done guys.....
it has been like, what? 14 years since I first saw this(I was 9 or 8 back then) and I still get goosepumps everytime I watch this opening scene with high volume and the " they are not coming for us are they sir " part comes :D
A twelves years old comment on a 14 years old movie back then, this is crazy, how time flies
New movies come every day, but The Rock will allways be the best of the best!!
hummel looks like rommel
+shylildude is a 'mmel' just coincidence?
shylildude I believe Hummel is of Germanic. there's the Hummel artillery piece
Both German names
LOADS !
@@KingTiger10588 hummel means bumblebee in german.
"They're are not coming for us, are they sir?"
gets me every time.
Michael Bay. Why you no make movies like this anymore?
This video has so much power to it, the men & woman that fight for the U.S.A
are not shown the respect that they deserve, the part of this video that really gets me is "THEY ARE NOT COMING FOR US ARE THEY SIR ?"
Thank you to all for ur service !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best opening scene I even have seen 👏👏
i love this kind of music, amazing.
so powerful and brilliant..
Hans zimmer, is truly a master peace.
"The Rock" was directed by Michael Bay, music by a frequent colleague of his, Hans Zimmer. There's a certain style Bay has always had with his movies, which he tends towards with the summer films he does. "The Rock" was his 2nd flick he directed, and hey! He had explosions galore! Even when showing the title there were explosions!
Man, there's so much that MGS 2 was "inspired" from by this movie.
+Eethan O'Connell well Harry Grigson-Willams did the music for both.
Scott DelleFave I know.
*****
Cool.
+TheDeliciousbrownie Especially the "shower room"
also the "The only easy day... was yesterday" opening scene
I've got shivers by just watching the first 3 minutes.. best opening scene ever!!!
The opening scene alone is way better than any of those current unrealistic "gender-equal movies" putting 130 pounds girls beating 200 pouns guys.
AW ya!
David Morse,(Maj. Baxter) it has been a pleasure serving with you on HBO's " Treme". ( Cpl. Cardone, PM; Echo 2/5 Weapons Plt.) Till next time or season.
Hans Zimmer is an artist and a genius. Michael Bay's best film.
my favorite movie of all time, truly a classic, Action and Drama and Great music
To be honest...the best Action movie of all times !
Ed Harris was magnificent in this move and the opening scene is incredible.
Ed Harris is amazing in this movie, as usual !!
When Michael Bay was a fantastic director. One of Ed Harris' best roles if not his best, excellent acting. Also, Hans Zimmer's score is one of the finest there is, almost up there w. Williams.
gosh dang, that Hans Zimmer score!
Always brings tears to my eyes
So many great actors and moments, but connery as always stole the show.
I love Sean Connery's and Nick cage's chemistry in this movie. It made it all that bit much more better and witty with those two characters in the movie. IMO this is easily Michael Bay's very best movie!
At 1:10 "there not coming for us are they sir".....fukin crazy yo...straight anguish
This is the best ever opening in a movie. and a bunch of great soundtracks in the hole movie two thumbs up :D
Hans Zimmer and Ed Harris does the scene.
If you have an opening scene like this, the rest of the film must match it. Epic!
16 years and still goosebumps.
I rest my case.
This movie is symbol of perfect combination of action, music, dialogues and photography. Hats off to Michael Bay.
