I first saw Eric's build only a couple of weeks ago on another channel doing driving some tracks. I got to say it really is the most impressive and well thought out build I have seen in a long time, possible the best out there IMO.
Stephan, Congratulations on putting a great video together of the old girl. I had no idea what was going to come out from from your short visit, I think you could travel the world for 4x4 magazines doing vehicle doco's.
Thank's mate was a pleasure, looking forward doing a walk through of the "secret" project in your shed once it is ready.... as well as catching up for a drive soon :-)
That what a cool truck and excellent video. I love the simplicity and how everything just works... no shiny bells and whistles. Thanks for putting that together!
So great to see a local AU land rover and at such a level of awesomeness. I love these mods. What a top machine. That PTO center winch is fantastic. I'd love to have a good look around in person one day.
Flaming awesome mate!! Love the winch setup! Great engineering and lateral thinking! Simple yet creative and bullet proof. One of the best trucks I've ever seen.
Dam fine job that’s one of the finest job matter of fact that he is refinanced for Bob (tow-all and engineering work mate I’m good I’ll fella I have ever seen done my hats off to you admire you keep wheeling from USA
Wow this an absolutely awesome 4wd! I didn't want the video to end. Very well engineered build. Credit to you Eric. Thankyou for another entertaining video all off-road
Great vehicle , love the mods. I would like more details on the winch setup, like many others, but I respect your decision if you decide not to share. Thank you for what you did share.
I am a little confused. Eric was speaking about his drive train and was talking about the diff locks off then the center diff off and then mentions he has power to all corner, can you explain ? Another question, next to your shifter you have your yellow shift knob, what is that for and your red know which is your center diff lock from what I understand.
pasquale parente (from what I understood) with the diff locks off and then the center diff off, if he's able to drive then he knows that the vehicle doesn't have a broken half shaft etc. Yellow shift knob is for 2wd/ 4H and 4L.
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV . $19.500 from one credible manufacture! I don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon. I don't really do any "hard-core" 4wding, so I think I might just upgrade my tyres from 33's to 35's. This should help just enough. 👍🏻
In Belgium they are not legal (if not fitted standard ofc.). For example: a Unimog with portals is legal, putting those same portals under a Defender is illegal.
We got Tibus (also known as Killeraxles) bolt-on portals over here in Germany, a conversion will set you back between 6k and 10k Euros. But depending on where you live, shipping, different currencies etc will probably bump the price up quite a bit. I have no idea how they perform in heavy terrain tho. They come in 1:1.6 heavy terrain or 1:1.16 daily driver/touring ratios, the wheel size is limited to 35". A set of used Volvos will set you back at least 8-10k here when buying from Ebay or other parts sources. Unimog portals are also a common choice but those are super heavy. The availability is good though and so are spares/replacements.
Center winch looks to be based on a (Salisbury? locked) diff running off a rear PTO. I'd be very interested in any more info. Are there any build details on a forum? Best winch set up I've seen to date.
itll doo depending on where you are in the world and what type of racing your involved in. Those Time Trial type of racing use these. These PTO are usually found on farm trucks for accessories as well
This is great, thanks for this video. I have my fingers crossed for a more in-depth look at this one. Are there any places I can find more information on this?
If it wasn't for Stephan's great attitude and skills, this shoot wouldn't have taken place. It was to denied to a certain 4wd magazine several times over the space of 10 years. I doubt there'll be any more in depth info released but I'm more than happy to show it in action.
Watching this video and weeping knowing that i have a set of volvo 303 in my brother basement that i bought in 2011 to install on my discovery and yet it did not happen ,agggggg
what your opinion on jeep wranglers? I`m thinking of buying a new or nearly new wrangler but i`m not sure how reliable or practical they are. Only need a short wheel base because most of the time its just me and my dog. I want a rubicon because of the diff locks they come with.
Hi stefan,do u have any videos relate to eric during technical driving?im having trouble finding them on youtube, does he has an offroad channel like u do?
awesome video thanks,i love older vehicles made to work not pretend there not fossil fueled. i have also like and subscribed. i own a 110 landy and unimog 1300l ambulance both slow thirsty noisy and awesome. also love the winch check out rw1 unimog for there approach. cheers
With the portal reduction it does around 2800 rpm at 100 kph, the Isuzu would be much quieter at 2000 rpm. Other than that it's good on fuel and nice to drive, plenty of torque. Off road is where it shines.
@@AlloffroadAu no they are not watch this video (ruclips.net/video/YPmBho3E6As/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/-DBG--PgGic/видео.html), what i was saying is this setup is still be able to go from 2wd to 4wd or is it a fulltime 4wd?
With no shear pin and a full size drive shaft it stalls the motor if the gear is too high, either that or it breaks the cable. Mind you I've only ever broken one cable in 12 years with this winch. Usually it drags up whatever is attached to it whether it likes it or not. Ask anyone who has been on the other end of it and they'll tell you how powerful it is. If I'm not careful it will crush cars like sardine cans when caught between rocks or trees.
On a standard Series 2a the red lever is transfer box high/low and the yellow engages 4 wheel drive when you push it down (no centre diff). Normal position is 2 wheel drive. But with all those mods, they might be doing something else on this one...
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV Didnt he say its of a range rover. It's a shame he didn't do a video of the builds that would have been interesting, especially the winch set up
Not freefall but winching across flat ground with transfer case in neutral. Faster again on no load line retreival, keep hands clear or they're gone. Not a toy for anyone who doesn't understand the dangers.
If $$ were no option, I’d love to slap a pair of Werewolf portals under my Landy. All that added capability, and you get to help out a Ukrainian company. Everyone wins!
I'm confused as to how you can call this a 1966 Land Rover? Changed engine. Changed gearbox. Changed chassis. Changed axles. Changed bonnet. Changed wings. From what i can see the only thing that MIGHT BE 1966 are the doors, bulkhead and chopped roof and the heater.
It still has the original chassis which I converted to coils, the wings are original with headlights mounted in them, rear tailshaft has had uni's replaced but is still the 1966 one. The roof came from a wrecking yard as it was a soft top GS ex army 11 seater. The rego still says Series 2A with its original chassis number, been toying with this for 19 years.
It’s a 1966 Landy, that’s where it started, that’s when it was born, what happens during its life cannot change that….why would you even want to make such a comment?

Yes it’s a great truck
Now that's a landy and a half !! Winching system is amazing 👏👏👍👍
I had the great pleasure of meeting Eric & seeing him push his incredible car up some amazing terrain... just brilliant...!!! 👍😊👊
That's a crazy ass winch , nothing would stop that ....

hi Eric can yol do a video on winch setup thats an amazing setup loved it
Hi ERIC IM FROM INDIA
n love ur passion about making a car setup like this. I would like to meet u n want to learn from ur work. WILL U HELP.
Wow... Talk about simple meets technical. I love it!
Eric is amazing like his rover.

Yes same here
Looks like a good winch type set up like used in Malaysia
God winch

That winch is a beast
That is just pure awesome.
You guys are phenomenal and I don't mind saying I'm completely jealous of your technical abilities!
I love it!!! Total badass!!
The penultimate setup. It doesn't get any better than that. Period.
nearly agree, Eric has a new project in his shed I can't talk about yet, but that will be something even more special
Work of art 🥇
What a Beast
Wow this an absolutely awesome 4wd! I didn't want the video to end. Very well engineered build. Credit to you Eric. Thankyou for another entertaining video all off-road
thanks mate
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV what's the name of his workshop ?
No signage on the workshop, It's more of an after hours business when I have time.
THE 109 no worries. I really like the ingenuity in the build would be awesome to see what else you have built.
Brilliant engineering! Awesome set up!
What a brilliant truck build, love it. I've got a very similar winch setup on my Patrol, it's electric, not PTO, ute it's mounted and routed the same.
nice where are you located?
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV Perth WA
fantastic
Stephan that is one cool truck mate.... I never knew you could have a winch set up like that..... Great review mate.
me neither before I saw Eric's truck, the winch works very well
Thats one heck of a Truck! Nice one Erik. Cheers mate.
The BEST 🌋👍
Wowwwww that’s amazing
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
@@AlloffroadAu great channel. Wish I was in oz
Dream car!
Winch set up!!
Awesome!

great bit of gear i wonder is the turning circle any better with the portals or no different, is it a series axle housing
Love it
So it's basicly a lanvolvosuzu now...clever!
Eric... nice truck bro Seb rig 101 !
Hi Seb, thanks mate. How have you been?
Nice rig! We still have alot of those portal axles in Sweden. 😉
Which ones? Volvo?
@@AlloffroadAu Yes.
i would love to know some more details on that winch system
its is Epic

portal axles and locks? well this is certainly hard to stop
Portal axles (with the small amount of research iv done) seem to be really really highly expensive 😢
yes they are not cheap however you going to do it

I found Eric on AULRO www.aulro.com/afvb/the-isuzu-landy-enthusiasts-section/148444-isuzu-series.html
why don't comp rigs have those winches, that's a fantastic setup,... maybe a cage between the winch and the cab. love it thanks.
I thought that as well but the way the cable is routed even in a failure there is not much danger from the drum or cable on that side
itll doo depending on where you are in the world and what type of racing your involved in. Those Time Trial type of racing use these. These PTO are usually found on farm trucks for accessories as well

make good use of the I wish I had a set in my basement :-)
would you not want the wheels to be powered while you winch so they work together
3:59 possibly the world’s fastest winch
lol likely
All I would say to this beaut is, shut up and take my money!
Hello there!!!! What kind of variable transmission does it cost?gearshift as done, on the ropes backstage?
that is a volvo C300 series PTO winch also?

Great platform but need some modifications in my book good thing is you can get nearly everything for it from mild to wild
Common rails watch in shame😂
I'm sorry but how does the pto brake work for the winch .
I think Eric is keeping that a trade secret as he spent a lot of time and research developing it
Does he have a you tube channel or a insta page ?
no Eric does not

guessing you meant 4BD1T
correct, did I have a Typo somewhere?
So where is the series 2a 109. All I see is early defender
How do you find the Isuzu transmission ratio with the 4BD1T on the road
With the portal reduction it does around 2800 rpm at 100 kph, the Isuzu would be much quieter at 2000 rpm. Other than that it's good on fuel and nice to drive, plenty of torque. Off road is where it shines.
so is this setup a full time 4wd or can go back to 2wd as normal landrover?

How much pull can that winch handle? 12000lb?
