as a landlord myself this pisses me off. its landlords like this that make us all look like scumbags. i keep 20 window units in a storage unit and whenever i get a call about broken ac if my guy cant get there and fix it within a day i make sure i have a few of the units there that day. i guess thats why my tennants tend to stay years

It's outrageous listening to this story. That's really messed up. I hope management gets held accountable. There are many properties allowing this type of treatment towards tenants. May this family receive a solution soon. Keeping this family in my prayers. Please follow up.
Under Texas property code "Texas State law" if you send it to apartment complex management via (certified mail) They are required to fix it within 7 days maximum. For major issues they have LESS THAN 7 DAYS . BY LAW.
Sadly many average citizens, renters dont educate themselves of such laws,regulations, renters Rights. Then to do the tedious documentation of getting these things swiftly fixed.

I had a a 15 year old Lennox XC16 air conditioner and a 6 year old Goodman 4 ton air conditioner.” I would have to get my Lennox fixed around July for the last 2 summers. My old Lennox air conditioner wouldn’t cool under 80!! Now I have 2 brand new Goodman air conditioners 3.5 ton downstairs and a 5 ton for upstairs. As a former Southerner, I moved up to Ohio and it was the best decision I ever made. I rather have harsh winters than harsh summers.
This is not a way to live. The fact that the apartment complex provided her a window a/c unit screams that there is something going on here. Smells fishy. For the recent rent increases, they should take care of this ASAP

It took 2 months for them to look at my A/C, which was only blowing heat, before they finally came and looked at it here at my apartment here in Arlington, TX. Turns out I needed a new motor and fan. Tonight is going to be the best night of sleep I’ve had in forever and that’s cause it’s still not working as properly as it should. Our management office said it’s cause there are “too many apartment on site that need A/C maintenance”. They sure are quick to ask for the rent money here though. It’s been averaging 100 degrees for a couple of weeks already here in DFW. Unacceptable. Don’t rent out places you can’t keep up with. Simple
This isn't ideal but that little AC unit will be more effective if you use sheets like heat barriers to isolate a small area.
Granted no one should have to do that in the first place but desperate times call for desperate measures. Can't just sit in your house/apartment and cook in this heat.
They shouldn't get their rent money either and give her a few months of rent free
Why do they report these stories but have no resolution. It’s ridiculous. Report the story when the issue is also resolved.

An extremely high percentage of low income people feel they just do not have to honor their contractual rental obligations these days because of the COVID moratoriums and a general lack of responsibility. Also, most rental entrepreneurs do not neglect a simple AC problem when their tenant is paying the rent, but when the tenant does not pay, it is understandable that an owner will not want to do the work for them. Would YOU work for some one when they won't pay you? I doubt it.
I worked ac maientance for 5 years ,years back and no most people rent is up two date ,
And it's up two apartments owner managers two fix all issues on their properties, soon as they pay someone two fix it ,it becomes a breach issues
Don't pay the rent, take that money and call a air-conditioned tech.
Stop paying rent until it is fixed. As long as the issue has been properly reported, it must be addressed within 7 business days.
legally you cannot hold the owed rent for repairs needed fixing !! if so nobody would be paying rent!!! you must go through the correct protocol or you have consequences unlike the landlords
Why not give the name of the landlord and the name and address of the apartment complex to bring shame on them ?

If rent goes into escrow, most times nothing gets fixed & the building will start falling apart. Best thing to do, is get your deposit back, & move somewhere, where the landlord is not a scum bag.

Since April smh that’s crazy kids and a disable kid aswell now if she left them in a hott house she be locked up the baby milk spoiled baby been throwing up from being sick ac didn’t work they gave them I would try to move in near future or jus not pay rent one she has rights and that poor disabled baby does aswell too so sad

Usually the renting party is responsible for repair payments like this unless otherwise stated in the contract and air conditioning is a luxury not necessity.
Actually it should be seen in the same light as heat, which is a necessity. For the vulnerable, such as the elderly and this young boy, it is a necessity.
