  • It is no surprise that our province's energy sector has been struggling -- no thanks to the Federal government. Let's recall their history:
    1. The Carbon Tax.
    2. The Clean Fuel Standard -- another carbon tax the Feds have waiting to unleash on Canadians.
    3. Methane regulations. In 2020, Alberta agreed to a 45% decrease in Methane emissions but then the Feds, in perfect form, moved the goal posts by forecasting a change in those requirements to 75%.
    4. Then we have Bill C-48. Legislation created to ONLY ban the shipment of Alberta bitumen products from deep-water ports in Northern BC.
    5. Bill C-69 is another gem. It implements subjective analysis into project assessment. Even with the green light on regulatory approvals, a project can be stopped (at any point) without cause.
    6. Furthermore, the Trudeau government created ambiguous net zero legislation and, without consultation, are going to impose an emissions cap on Alberta production.
Alberta is a world leader in innovation and environmental stewardship and small and medium-sized producers continue to to be the bedrock of our industry.
One should not buy into a naïve narrative that the oil and gas industry is inherently bad for the environment. We know that without Alberta the global environmental footprint suffers.
