Yep it sure was. Except on Christmas Eve when the Yule Log was on followed by Midnight Mass from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Honeymooners, for a while, was shown right after Mass and it was always the Christmas episode. The one where Jackie Gleason steps out of character at the end but they would cut that part off.
There are no shows like this any where that are just plain funny. All the shows on now have some kind of sexual references in them. Family Feud is one of them, Steve Harvey is just plain disgusting……

He was part of each character and vice versa. He delved deep into his musical knowledge and had his orchestras perform standards, but other little known gems as well. "Romantic Jazz" is a great record, "Lover's Portfolio" which is a box set of albums that are made to dance to, drink, to, and love to. I have that one with the drink recipe he put into it.
I grew up watching this show in the mid to late fifties. The opening music sends a wave of nostalgia through me like nothing else. Ralph was so different from my dad. Many of the episodes ended with “Baby, you’re the greatest”. Those words really moved me. Great episode. Thanks for posting.
When I was a kid this was on WPIX Channel 11, and every night I used to watch it with my dad. Never laughed as much or as good as I used to for those 30 minutes. They were brilliant!!!

Weird as this will sound, I can't imagine life without this show. That moon rising over the tenements was like looking out my bedroom window. All seemed right in the world as soon as those opening credits rolled to that theme song.
One of the best shows ! Teaches so many Life Lessons of everyday situations in Society. There's pride, jealousy, envy and misunderstandings. But the greatest Lesson is when Norton admits the ideas were his best friend's own words. I don't know how these ideas were put together in less than 20 minutes, but it works, the audience is not superficial like today's shows. This is the real deal and in the pioneer days of television before they got "professional".
I put Jackie Gleason and James Cagney in the same class of very professional entertainers - - Masters of their Art. Those were the shows many of us grew-up watching. Like others here, I was born in 1961 and haven't seen a color TV until 1970 - Black & White TV was always my favorite ..... and I naturally gravitated toward B&W Photography too ....
I like black and white too! I draw pencil portraits of people and like the contrast and drama of b&w. I was looking at b&w photos of people when it struck me how cool it is. 😊
I like the look on Alice's face when Norton says what he said because she knows what's coming and gets out of the way. It's amazing since Gleason often didn't rehearse with the group.
Yes, he was great! From what I learned about Jackie Gleason's life story, he was raised in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick. In the episode Pal O' Mine, there is a reference to the Bushwick Hospital.
I was born in 1950 and I remember when this series ran with first run episodes in 1955. My Dad couldn't stop laughing (he wasn't an easy laugh, either!) This is timeless comedy.
@@billyrichards8834 When Audrey Meadows first auditioned for the part Jackie Gleason thought she was too attractive to play it. She auditioned again sans makeup and hairstyling and was hired.
Oh, I totally get it. She was a VERY SMART actress. I think her year's on Broadway helped her to discover exactly the types of character's Producer's and Director's are looking for. That's why she immediately only changed her appearance, gave the 'LOOK' they were looking for, and she was immediately hired, without ever giving an audition.
That's what I meant. That AFTER photo's were sent to Gleason (after she auditioned the FIRST time) he hired her, just on the photo's alone, without ever knowing it was her.
@@Cissy2cute Yes, that's true. From when he was a kid. He said he found the hat in the back of his closet and thought it would be perfect for the Norton character to wear.
I built a house on the Westbrook shore in 1988. Art Carney’s house was about 6 houses away, towards the public beach, which was not far from the Elks club. During the construction of that house, Art occasionally came to visit, and we chatted occasionally. I think he liked my sense of humor, coz the first time I met him, he walked up behind me as I was squinting into my transit, checking the plumb lines on the structure; I had no idea who was behind me at first, and assumed it was another “tourist” interfering with my job, asking too many questions, so I decided I’d have a little fun and when he asked what I was building, which was a very contemporary structure, I said, “A bank…” Of course, the implication was that it was costing a fortune, but I was also just being a smart ass. Right then, one of the boys on my crew saw me standing next to “Ed” and shouted down from the top of the house, “Heyyy, Ralphy Boy!” I heard Art chuckle behind me, and turned to see him laughing. I almost stammered like Ralph might have, out of embarrassment for my sarcastic comment. Lol. But when I started to apologize, Art would have none of it. He laughed and told me I had nothing to be sorry about, coz he had no right to bug me whilst I was hard at work, earning a living. I then tried to apologize for my employee’s comment, but he turned that around as well, and told me that he never got tired of people recognizing him for that role. He insisted it’d been groundbreaking for his career and he had no regrets working with Jackie Gleason. He came across as just an average “Joe”, and a nice guy to boot. After that I saw him occasionally as we reached certain stages in the project. I remember wondering often back then if he was watching us build that house, coz he had said he would sit in his bedroom window at times, doing just that; fascinated by the progress. Bottom line, watching the old shows took on a different meaning for me after that. I got to meet the “real” man, and my take was that he was just as sweet as the character he portrayed in that series.

One of my very favorite episodes! It always reminds me what happened to me when I was young. George and I were childhood friends and used to hang out every single day. From playing kid games to chasing women. Always together. But we both joined the army and we lost track of each other. One evening I was walking in the busy street in uniform and there was George walking toward me! I was glad to see him, but he was a lieutenant, and I was a private first class! I said Hey George, long time! He said I'll give you hey George! Why did you not salute? You're going on report! I thought he was just messing with me, but he was not! He was serious as cancer. His rank went to his head, erased his memory and showed his true colors. I felt very sad but after a while I realized that I did not need a friend like him, he was not like Norton, a true-blue buddy, he was more like a selfish arrogant little man. Well, there were a couple of publicity stills taken where he was behind the wheel of an actual New York City bus but there was never any footage of him actually driving one or even a scene with the bus standing still and him receiving passengers. If you go to heaven ?? I,m sorry you don't know. GOD says, everybody can know...This was for vballray7, 1 year ago
"You rang for me, sir?"...."Must be one of those NUTS!" 😂
Nice Brunswick Centennial table......Must have been brand newly introduced when this episode aired
Too bad there aren’t more shows like these!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Simply - "The Greatest!"
One of the many things I loved about this show was the love and devotion Alice showed towards Ralph. I know it's just a role she played but imagine if every marriage was like this or at least the majority. How much of a better world this would be.
Got to love this show
I just luv it.. I grew up watching this show!!😂😂
Thanks again for watching.

I just love that bell ringing lol
The Flintstones, which was a cartoon version of the honeymooners, had a similar episode when barney was automatically in charge of Fred over similar circumstances
Chilling and watching on NYE at work. Saludos
I'm the 100th comment. Jackie, you're the greatest!
Rest easy"Trix" you were great 🙏🏻😞 Joyce
Kramden was the one best thing that ever happened to tv
Fact
He was the biggest thing on television 😂😂😂
I been watching this show for years I love it. I'm very old and still love 37 years old. Plus 🇩🇴🇺🇲 New York like the show.
I’m 40 years old and grow up in the Tri State area Connecticut, newyork & Nj. Tha wpix 11 days when u know it was late when u seen the odd couple. Honeymooners and star track was on ..
I just noticed..... that's the same guy who played the butter on the Ralph Kramden inc. episode!!!
I was watching the " Honeymooners " in 1950's .
I started watching in the late 60s. I now put it on late night to put me to sleep.
I was born in 1956 and are only watching it now in 2022!!Love it!!!
@@Buisness1 haaa me too lately but a lot of times I end up staying up laughing 😄
@@chrisbus3253 I wasn’t born till the early 70s but I grew up on this show. In Brooklyn Ny this came on channel 11 at 11:30 pm my whole childhood till I was about 21 years old. I remember when I was 8 years old I would sneak staying up late on school night to watch this show lol.
Nice. What else did you do?
Cant believe im wattching the honeymooners on a phone.... If you just let that sit in for a minute........ On a phone....... Mind boggling. Im 40 and use to watch the reruns with my father as a kid.... Could you imagine Ralph watching tv on a phone...
Ralph briefly had a T.V. & a ☎, never kept those either. Not even a radio like a lot of other people had. Ralph just eeked out a living driving a bus & really, Alice & the roof over their head was what really mattered to them.
I love this show......first time i ever watched was maybe 2013......
Seen every episodes 3-4 times.
*Truly great*
Those were the days: family fidelity true friends and fair play.
Interesting that Gleason would play the role of a pool pro in The Hustler with Newman.
Do we ever get tired of watching the Honeymooners? NEVER!!!!
Great show I watch every night back in my days love it 😊 thanks
On the Jackie Gleason Show there was Joe the bartender,Reggie Van Gleason,The Poor Soul all Gleason Characters. Each one was Brilliant, and Ralph combined all those brilliant characters into one.
These episodes are the best, I never get tired of watching them ❤❤❤❤
Great episode, but then, weren't they all.
Watching this on a hot hot Tuesday afternoon off from work june 29 2021
The writers sure knew how to write back then. I barely watch anything put out today because .. I find shows like this that kick but!
The best of the best, right here - love u Jackie & Art ❤
The drape hey Ralph it was tied to the butler lol
"Sale on men's shorts, $.89 pair" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
He was an underused and underestimated talent. He was great in "Smokey and the Bandit."
Yes he was And GD in Nothing In Common and Movie Toys With Richard Pryor
He was so damn funny! And his facial expressions .he is still my favorite comedian 2022 👍.your comment so true
??? Maybe you just aren't aware of all of his work.
@@kathyflorcruz552 since I was raised in the 60s and 70s I assure you I didn't miss anything with Jackie Gleason----- WE ONLY HAD THREE CHANNELS. Clearly, my point was that his talent was far more broad than a lot of his roles as he was very much type cast.
Let me have a diablo sandwich and a Dr. Pepper...
I have never seen a full episode, just snippets over the 38 years of my life. Don't know why they popped up, but watched it and loved it!
I always wanted to see Ralph actually drive a bus.
Yes! Me2!
Me 3 And Ed in Sewer
Well, there were a couple of publicity stills taken where he was behind the wheel of an actual New York City bus but there was never any footage of him actually driving one or even a scene with the bus standing still and him receiving passengers. Not even on the lost kinescope episodes or when it was a skit on his variety show.
U mean, 'bribe a dus'......'dus a bribe'.....
@@dianestaiano6654 🤣😂
I must have seen each episode at least a hundred times and it still cracks me up... 👏🙏👏🙏
“I bet furniture cost a couple hundred bucks in here” 😅😅
This is so true to that era. This is the way people talked and acted. 😆 A little different today.
Yes. Now people are so politically correct they sound like idiots.
Watching this om a hot summer night in Brooklyn ny
Watching on a cold Christmas eve in Queens
Hot summer nights in Brooklyn with no air conditioning just fans in those days I'm now 71
