Remember, Jamie lied about the Sapphire Isles to save Brianne from sa, and lost his hand for it. He already paid for the lie, and he did this anyway. He has respect for Brianne...I think he sees her as the knight he always wanted to be but will never be. Tyrion should have left Shae on the battlefield. He knows they can never work out...KNEW they never could, brought her anyway. On top of that, she doesn't get it at all. As much as she feels line a partner, she's really more of a liability.
Briene depicts what being a true honorable knight is and Jamie respects that and even more so wants that image for himself as you recall from his first convo with his dad carving the deer.
27:00 Jaime lied about the sapphires to save Brienne. In this instance there is no wrong for Jaime to right. Lying about the sapphires was the right thing to do in that situation. And 34:45 I don't think that Theon chose his real family over the Starks. He chose his own ego, his own insecurities over the Starks. If he had done what his father had told him (raid the villages along the coast) then I would agree that he choose his family over the Starks. But he didn't do that. Instead he went with his ego and captured Winterfell.
The acting from both Charles Dance and Jack Gleason is so good... I love the visual symbolism of Tywin ascending the steps and making Joffrey squirm on the Iron Throne while towering over him... (amazing camera work during the whole scene) I find hilarious Charles Dance's ironic tone of voice when he says "We could arrange to have you carried."
Its funny that you refer to Jaime having a "redemption arc" because honestly, he never needed one. He saved half a million lives by killing Aerys Targaryen, knowing it would brand him an Oathbreaker forever. He did terrible things like pushing Bran out the window, but he did that because he actually truly is in love with Cersei, as fucked up as that is. Jaime makes a lot of sense in what he says over the course of the show, such as his comment to Catelyn that the gods don't care because there's so much injustice in the world, or asking her what you are supposed to do when you have conflicting oaths, or when the people you swear your oaths too don't deserve your loyalty? If there were justice in the world, he would be seen as a hero for what he did to the mad king. He's not perfect, he's nowhere near perfect, and his love for cersei is his biggest, most toxic flaw, but he's a good man deep down, and it comes out when it counts.
saying theon was enslaved isnt calling a spade a spade, hostage is the only word to describe the circumstance, as after the greyjoy rebbelion he was taken hotage to be a ward for ned to enssure balon didnt rebel against the crown again
@@Leo_ofRedKeep Pushing Bran was a matter of life or death in that sutiation. Revealing their relationship would have meant certain death for both Jaime and Cersei.
@@Leo_ofRedKeepI wouldn't put it that way. Cersei is toxic for Jaime because she brings out the worst in him. I don't think it's a misogyny thing, just a terrible relationship dynamic.
28:06 You just said what Grr Martin, the author, said he wanted the series to be. Nobody is bad or wrong or good, everyone's grey and tied to their values and acting on it. You just understand perfectly what the other meant and it shows a lot of your comprehension of how people think and I'm very sorry for what's going to happen next. You''ll feel a lot and probably too much.
If Jamie hadn't mentioned the sapphires Brienne would've been r*ed and Jamie would still have his hand. By mentioning the sapphires, Jamie lost his hand to save Brienne's honor.
@@LippsReactscouldn't agree more. Somewhere in there he has a heart lol Fun fact: The Bear and the Maiden Fair is one of the most popular songs in Westeros. Nice double entendre with the episode title
Joffrey sitting on his throne squirming like he has ants in his pants and not making eye contact. Tywin calmly towering over him. Very powerful scene. I would have an ounce of respect for Joffrey if he had laughed about being carried as it was so ridiculous and said something like, "clearly I have a lot to learn." Sadly, that is not in his spoiled brat nature.
Great reactions again! Regarding Gendry's knowing, no, he never knew before this. And that also explains his earlier rejection to Arya's advance - to "I can be your family" he replied "You wouldn't be my family. You would be my lady" - he thought he is a lowborn and therefore not suitable to a girl from a noble family like Arya even if she wanted him.
Jamie can be thought to have two sides - the Cersei side, and the Tyrion side. His love of Tyrion is similar to his affection for Brienne - somebody who is physically mocked all the time and yet, he can see her skill and honor.
One of my favorite aspects of Joffrey's character -- on the show anyway, not sure about the books -- is that in a very narrow way he is very smart and actually thinking ahead of his time. He's right to be concerned about Dany and her dragons. And earlier in the series he was groping towards a more modern future when he talked about the foolishness of armies being made up of family war bands rather than professional soldiers loyal to the crown and by extension the country. It's just extremely unfortunate that he's also a monster.
This show does an excellent job of illustrating the duality of all people. The prevailing ideology of the modern world is to protect everyone from adversity, including protecting them from themselves. It is this adversity that nurtures strength. You see it in the characters in this show. The trials and tribulations they experience allow them to grow into who they truly are and allows us to see who they truly are. Without the opportunity to experience this adversity we are all softer, weaker, lesser versions of ourselves and allows us to display only what we choose to, depriving everyone from seeing who we truly are, whether it be good or bad. It is akin to a world without color, a world without the strength of true love, a world that is darker and more dismal than it ever should be. It deprives us from experiencing the dazzling brilliance of a life well lived as we wake each morning telling the god of death "Not today."
Im sorry but i absolutely hate shae. Her character is sooo awful. She's very demanding and makes absolutely zero effort to understand Tyrion, yet every reactor and their mothers think she's so sweet and she's handling things well. The thing I find annoying about characters like Orell in GOT is that they always tell the pretty girl they like that they should go for them instead of the handsome man. Meanwhile, why is Orell not going for an ugly wildling woman? Why does he insists on having a pretty girl like Ygritte, while criticizing her for being attracted to good-looking guy?

The scene between Tywin and Joffrey is one of the best in my opinion. Love it.
