I always love it when my arborist does my trimming of mature trees. I just breathe a sigh of relief as this type of preventative maintenance is essential. 🥰🌳🇨🇦
Love that you considered your neighbors consent about their trees. The trees looked fine. At least you will not have the mess in your driveway now. Win win situation ❤❤
Tbf, I think she or anyone would do it with or without their consent. It is neighborly to give a heads up though. Some people (my neighbors on one side) are very snippy and difficult to talk to. It is nice when people try to be reasonable.
The neighbor is lucky they didn’t have to fund it. In my neighborhood, if your trees go into a neighbours property and the neighbour wants them trimmed, it’s at your expense.
Looks so nice! Your neighbors should be very pleased honestly. The tree by your garage is massive! It looked big and then when you see the guys IN the tree, it gives a new perspective
You might still have to net the top of the drains or put some screening between the garage and the fence to catch the ones that will still blow into your yard.
Thanks Sidney for all the information you have given for Arbor Image. We had them come out and work on 8 of our mature oak trees that are 60 years old. The did such a awesome job and I'm so glad you had them on videos previously.
So glad they could help you out! They are great. We used them at our old house as well. Initially got a quote for them and never even got other quotes bc they came out, were honest and did a quality job and we have been using them ever since!
It looks a lot neater and cleaner. I have to do the same with a neighbors tree hanging over my driveway and some branches that are rubbing the roof of my home. We are in agreement about cutting the branches also.
Sydney I lived in Northern California and I have redwoods talk about a mess. They're And shed leaves year round. I Built my house 48 years ago. The redwoods grow 5 feet a year. They are so destructive. They have torn up my driveway. Cause plumbing problems, roofing problems back problems. You name it. I've had 15 cut down. And between having the tree cut down and the stump ground down. I have spent a small fortune. At first I tried trimming them, but they would always get the sucklings back. These trees have been a nightmare. I wonder why you just didn't have those trees cut down. But you sure gave some good advice? Don't plant trees close to your house are close to anybody else's enjoy your videos
Very nice job. I planted a hedge along the back fence. Not my fence, so every year or two, I cut the back so there's about 2 1/2 foot distance. It's important to respect your neighbors as you would want them to do with you.
I get your angst over that juniper. My neighbor has scotch pines and a fir that makes such a mess. My gutters are also messy even with gutter guards! I asked if I could prune some of the branches and they were fine with it. Made such a diff
We had the issue with our neighbors pine trees. The limbs grew over our driveway and the sap was ruining our cars with the sap. There was 16 that flanked our side and back yard. Thank goodness they had those removed. Absolute mess.
Yes, it's called encroachment into your property line. I'm thinking those trees were probably already there even before the any house was built and the first home builder opted to keep them. When we built our house, we made sure the 5 live oak trees and 4 juniper cedars remained on our property lot. The thing about trees is not only their branching, but their root system---something to always consider as well when planting your own trees. I gather this is why some housing developers just bulldoze the land void of all trees. We have to find a happy medium.
Sydney, I think you are a good neighbor to consult with your neighbors and check with city, county and state regulations to avoid property damage due to trees. Also, you were very considerate regarding your other neighbor on the opposite fence line and trimming back over hanging shrubs and tree limbs. The air flow will probably be better also in your patio and yard. Your new kitty is cute!
Love the Arbor Image team! They really know what they’re doing. We have them scheduled to come out next week to thin out and limb up some of our very large trees. So important to stay on top of maintaining these trees to keep them from succumbing to wind and ice damage here in Oklahoma.
Absolutely! Preventative maintenance is the best maintenance! I’m always thankful for keeping up with it even though it isn’t cheap when we have bad weather!
I have the same problem with a neighbor's inherited Maple tree (silver I think). Planted at the fence line next to our garage and driveway. The trunk is 10" from our garage. The roots? Dunno. They shortened it to about 3 meters over the winter but now limbs are grown back. So I had an unmessy Winter and Spring. Flowers with their pollen, helicopter seeds, leaves .. we live in an urban neighborhood. I had an arborist trim the branches in our side one year (must have neighbors approval or they should come and do it), but 2-3 years later they grew back and the tree grew. Neighbors didn't want to even cut or trim it before last Winter, so they must have started worrying about it damaging our garage. It's really too big for the space and planted too close to our property line. The previous neighbors planted a little twig about 20 years ago. Obviously they had no knowledge about mature size. Here in France, legally, if a tree is planted 50 centimeters or less from the property line it should be kept at 2 meters high. Planted 2 meters or more from property line, it can grow at its heart content. After 30 years though, from planted date, I cannot dispute it, so I have 10 years... 😮.
In a perfect world, all homeowners would maintain the trees on their own properties. However, like you, we have paid to have neighboring trees trimmed back to avoid falling branch hazards, and constant leaf debris cleanup. Expensive but well worth the cost!
We have a row of very large cedars between our driveway and the neighbours driveway. We have no fences in our area. These trees are so dirty. I have talked to him about replacing them but so far no go. Maybe a storm will take them out.
IMO, gutter guards are a waste of money, you still have to get them cleaned because they clogged, then to top it off, you have to clean around the guard, much easier to stay with regular gutters. I am not a fan of junipers at all. Of course you would consult with your neighbors, I paid for my neighbors tree to take it down since it was so large & limbs kept getting dropped on our driveway. She was a widow so couldn't afford it so we asked her if we could eliminate it if we paid for it, she went for it. another tip is if your neighbour won't cooperate you can send them a letter saying that if any of your property is damaged due to their maintenance or neglect of the trees, their insurance will paid if anything happens but you have to show that you informed them. What a difference.
Our neighbors are very nice and thankfully didnt have an issues with it. You are correct, sometimes people cant afford tree trimming or dont think its necessary either or but thankfully arbor image was very fair to us knowing they weren’t our trees!
Very nice as always. I think if you turn the seating to face the garden instead of the wall it may look nice and give you a nice scenery of all your hard work to look at. Just a suggestion.
Good advice for viewers to check their state laws. Here in SC written permission is necessary to trim neighbors trees or shrubs. Fortunately a digital approval is valid if you screen shot or print the permission. We love the beauty and privacy of our heavily treed historic neighborhood but when neighboring trees become a nuisance or a danger to our home, like you, we make the call to eliminate the risk. Y'all are looking fine Sydney, despite the long season of Summer stresses 💚
The beauty of mature trees in historic neighborhoods or any neighborhoods really is unmatched! Keeping them pruned and maintained and huge and can save so much $$ down the road when bad weather hits! I love comments like these that other people care so much! I walk around the neighborhood and say to my husband “I wish we had that tree in our yard.” 😂
I had to have two extremely tall juniper /cypress trees removed one was $2,000.00 the other $2,200.00 !!! But they were a possible danger and a mess. I hated to see them gone , as I am a tree hugging hippie here in California. But sometime there is no other option . The other thing I always noticed... and did so when Linda owned this home....was that terribly torn bright blue fort or tree house cover behind the raised beds. I always felt I would offer to at least buy a dark green one for them to replace it. It has always been such an eyesore in all the garden videos. But that's just my OCD showing. haha
Your neighbor should get rid of it. It’s too big and in a bad spot. I know it’s always nerve racking to remove big trees and the expense but more people should be braver to remove large trees that don’t work in the space anymore. Glad to see you trimmed it. This will encourage others.
Personally, why not remove them? So large for the location. Sometimes you just have to remove a tree or bush. Sadly, had to remove a 27 year old Star Magnolia😢. Michigan got hit with severe scale on these specimens. The cost to continue treating and the mess from the honey dew bringing flies and parasite wasps was way too much. Had the same issue with arborvitae. Had to pull out 1/2 of them.
Yes it looks bad, but you will get used to it. There really was no choice from your standpoint, it had to be done…great neighbours though. You were also responsible neighbours and dealt with your tree as well. 🇨🇦👏🌸
Hi Sydney That will make a great difference to your maintenance schedule.Does arbor image seal off the cut boughs? If they sprout back, they may still shed leaves your side. The kitten has grown and making herself at home🌟💕💯
I would be willing to bet they dont. I really dont think they planted those trees. The mess they make is actually pretty impressive so I can only imagine what it drops on their side.
They are on the pricey side but worth it in my opinion! Here is a link to similar. The brown is sold out. Sometimes they do go on sale also! 😊 amzn.to/3WWbLu2
Why would they care as long as you pay for it, one less item checked off for them! But Linda never complained about these trees, now there an issue after all these years? The property was prettier when Linda was there with all her tulips and boxwoods

@CC-cn3cz when Linda lived here there were no gutters on that side of the garage, there were drainage issues and there was not a French drain in front of the garage. Preventative maintenance is SO MUCH cheaper! Never have I regretted spending money on preventative maintenance.
Arbor Image took such care cutting out the dead and living limbs. Never realized the tree was that massive. Great job. Thanks Sydney.
I learn so much from your videos. Really appreciate them. Thank you so much.
Thank you thank you for sharing this with us!

many years in our previous home.

Absolutely. So much more to consider when planting a tree than just going and buying a random tree and throwing it in the ground.

I don’t understand why your neighbors did not have them trimmed… I always take care of the overhang from our trees onto our neighbors yards.

Hi Sydney

They do not seal cuts. A lot of tree companies dont. If trimmed correctly the tree will heal and there really isn’t a need for any kind of sealer.
Hey Margo!👋
I bet your neighbor doesn’t lije the messy trees either.
I would be willing to bet they dont. I really dont think they planted those trees. The mess they make is actually pretty impressive so I can only imagine what it drops on their side.
For that stubborn vine creeping up your fence here and there, buy Stump & Vine killer. Works all the time. Make sure you use a brush.
Sydney and Tommy don’t own the trees, the neighbour would have to want them removed.
What about those other shrubs hanging over your fence in the video?
Those dont impede with anything and they are hollies so they dont shed much. They aren’t on our side by much so we left them.
Junipers are just nasty trees.
Love your sunglasses. Do you mind sharing brand and where can you purchase them.
They are on the pricey side but worth it in my opinion! Here is a link to similar. The brown is sold out. Sometimes they do go on sale also! 😊 amzn.to/3WWbLu2

Don’t be a troll. What is the problem? Btw, tulips are out of season.
The house and yard have never looked better . They have done a lot in a year .
