This engine has been used by Skidoo in their snowmobiles for more than a decade. There's even a turbo-charged version for high altitudes. It might be too heavy for dirt bikes. Personally, I think it would be easier to cast one large block that can accept four Panthera heads, connected by one crank that has each piston firing 90 degrees off of one another than it would be to put a cam, pushrods, modified ports at the bottom for the cylinder intake, and positive displacement blower on the engine.

      There is virtue in the simplicity of singles. Making multiple cylinders agree harmoniously adds complexity, but modern sensors and microprocessors would help immensely.
      It might make more sense to lose the transmission and counter-balancer and make it into a twin piston, single-cylinder hybrid ICE/electric, continuous-torque powertrain. Instead of mating the pistons mechanically, they could be coupled electrically with their own generators which could be used to manipulate piston speeds during each stroke and throughout the rev range.

Many drivers are struggling to bridge the price gap of switch over to a newer 4 stroke engine, that's been properly race prepped to run M1 methanol. I could see this more for use in bikes or quads for desert use.
    The mx future development is the 350 four stroke which will edge out the 300cc 2 stroke in the high reving hp. Many mxers are faster riding them full out vs trying to control 450's. I think there has been alot of door knocking to Japanese manufacturers who are getting lots of feedback on that.
    However, a torquey and high reving 350 to 400cc 2 stroke would be more usuable power for more riding types, with kit options to Fuel Inject an originaly carbureted bike and a 6 speed transmission is preferred by off roaders.

    So where this is electronic power alive and EFI does that mean there are mapping options like the 4 strokes have? The other question I have is what kind of numbers have you seen? Have you had it mounted yet and run it on a wheel dyno? I can only imagine what potentials this has.

      This isn't new technology. The Rotax ETEC direct-injection voice-coil 2 stroke engine has been powering Skidoo's snowmobiles for more that a decade. They're probably a bit too heavy for dirt bikes, but they're definitely the most sophisticated 2-cycle engines ever made.

    This is sick. You guys should build big motors for 4x4 quads would be interesting to see a 680 rincon type motor in a rancher 420 or Forman 500 frame with a 5 speed manual shift

    • @_..-.._..-.._
      @_..-.._..-.._ Год назад +1

      There’s zero money in that. They still make all sizes of utility quads. Why would anyone spend thousands to have a rancher 420 with more power? They would simply trade up. These motors are for an extinct beast and there’s a ton of renewed interest in old 2-strokes among the younger generations because they didn’t get to experience them as much, to the young people, 2 strokes are different and raw and exciting.

    I have a few pipe designs I would swap you for a motor to try them out with. I was working with KX500 engines, and found one that worked well with the older cylinders, and one that worked almost as well with the 90's ones. All of them loved a certain type of porting, but I had to work around that and now I know what to do with each of them! Yours will be a little different, but I'm really hoping my open setup falls right in place :)
