Great instruction. We have a new rescue who can walk on a leash in the backyard beautifully, but walking our neighborhood that’s filled with distraction has been challenging. I have done some of the things you taught in the video, but not all of them. I’m learning, and will add to our afternoon walk later today. Thank you!!❤❤
Maria Golke you train them to heel, then YOU choose the time and place to let them go to the end of the leash to potty. After they do, praise and back to heel
Is the pronged collar also helpful with being around distractions when walking? She’s dog friendly but when walking, I don’t want her to pull towards other dogs when going down the street for example. I was think about using a clicker with positive reinforcement but was going to try the collar for walking so I was curious if the collar works for pulling along with being around distractions.
Julie Logan absolutely. You won’t need a clicker, that will just be one more thing to fuss with. Use your voice instead- follow this video, give little bumps for corrections when she’s distracted, as soon as you get the behavior you want, “good girl!”
Is prong collar ok to use on five month old Heeler, she is perfect going on walk but returning to house or car she pulls, have tried stopping and waiting for her to stop pulling but next step she wants the lead and pulls ahead of me, she is reactive to other animals and people especially people who may be odd in there attire.
Slip leads work too but don’t give as quick of feedback and a little less control. I’ve seen her use them in other videos! If your dog isn’t super reactive, a slip may be enough
Okay so is there ever a time that you let your dogs like go Free Willy and sniff around and explore and stuff like that cuz I always hear that it's cruel not to let them so called read the mail which is what they're doing when they're sniffing and finding out about everybody and everything that's been there? Thank you
Is it still safe to use a prong collar if my dog freaks out when she sees other dogs/deer? I have a walking path in my neighborhood and it’s been difficult to get her attention away from them. She lunges towards them and we’ve been trying to get her attention but she just doesn’t pay attention to anything else when she sees other people/animals. She’s a rescue that we recently adopted
Were your hands ok? You didn't get bitten, did you? It's November now, and this was posted in February, so I hope your hands are better. Besides all that - this is the instruction I have been needing. I've been doing that arc left turn like your Mom did and basically doing all the wrong things Mom did. Thank you!!! I mean, sometimes my dog creates constant tension by walking faster than me at all times.
Hands are better, thank you! Yes, I got chewed up pretty good:) it was my own fault... the dog that did the damage is still with me, and a rockstar🙌🏼 lots of training and follow thru for the win!
I know you probably got a hundred comments about what happened to your hands? Dog bites you're so brave I'm the same way I don't care I do what it takes to break up fight and it's not safe

“Tangled up” = Confusion
“Pop” = Direction

Thanks to your mom for helping us see right and wrong! Really sweet of her
So glad I found your channel you are a great teacher and I love how you use untrained dogs to demonstrate your technique
Thank you for letting us on tiktok know that you have a RUclips! I was so excited! Can’t wait to watch the vids! 💕
MissPriss520 yeaaaa!!! Thanks for the support girl!!!♥️🙌🏼
Fantastic video as always! The structured walk is so important. Thank you again, Koco!
This was super helpful! Just as informative as it was to watch you, it was equally helpful to see your mom too!
Great feedback!!!! I’ll work on getting first timer’s into my videos! Thank you!
I love that their filming this in a Home Depot
What if you’re walking them for them to go potty? How do you train them to heel but yet sniff around to go to the bathroom?
Maria Golke you train them to heel, then YOU choose the time and place to let them go to the end of the leash to potty. After they do, praise and back to heel
Beautiful thank you!
Perfect as clumsy gsd gets under your feet, thank you

Very informative video for me...
This video was GREAT OMG 👏

Can this same info be used with a slip lead?

does it have to be on your left side? i’m right handed
Kenzie Is bae it does not need to be left! I’m right handed and prefer to have my right hand free. Whichever side works for you :)
Is there a way to do it without a prong collar?
Okay so is there ever a time that you let your dogs like go Free Willy and sniff around and explore and stuff like that cuz I always hear that it's cruel not to let them so called read the mail which is what they're doing when they're sniffing and finding out about everybody and everything that's been there? And if not how do you teach the structured walk to an old dog that you've always let sniff and smell and meander along the way of the Walk thank you
What if they won't focus on you at all?? And the left turns don't do anything?

Also what happened to your hands?
are we NOT going to talk about what the heck happened to your hands?????
👍

@@RescueDogTraining wow... so sorry... can I ask what happened and how would you treat it differently now that you’ve been through it?
