It's Just a though from a 76 year old fart. I've been using the the same utensils now since I was 8 years old when dad gave them to me he said they will last you a life time and he was not kidding . Happy trails

Have the UCO switch & it has its own spot on my EDC pack....LOVE IT!!
Comes in extremely handy at work
The best one in my opinion is the Light my fire Titanium Spork - nothing in comparison to the plastic ones - super strong, compact and useful - gotta try it out :)
How about this one?

UCO 2-piece is my go to. Very handy, light, compact and has all 3 utensils. Highly recommended.
This has been a lifesaver. You don’t know how challenging it’s been not knowing which utensil to use out on my hikes. For years now I’ve just been reaching into my hot reconstituted bag of food and pulling handfuls out at a time.
Surago wow that sounds so terrible, I am sooo glad I could help lol
Really impressed that you evaluated the dedicated utensil set - most comparers I’ve seen seem to be “spork or die”. And if I ever want to buy (getting away from dedicated utensils) I will take your recommendation on the uco switch. Thanks for the coverage!

I bought out the shelf on the UCO Switch at my local Walmart the other day... replacing all others in my kits. Absolutely the best. Took two of them to Texas Roadhouse on Friday night (me and the wife)... used them specifically. Got a few weird looks from the staff, but they were cool with it, and got some "mendos" from them as well. Yep... until someone can come up with anything better.. the switch remains our fav. Great comparison video Aaron... thank you.

If you get the Gerber devour tong set, you can flip the spatula upside down and clip together with spork, for a longer handle.
I think you mean the Gerber ComplEAT.
Yes, thanks.
Have you ever tried using the toaks titanium spork with the long handle? My personal favorite

I love the Gyot Designs 5 in 1 tool. Two pieces that snap together. Some type of nylon or composite. Spatula with a sharp serrated knife edge on one side. The spork has a Bowl that’s good for soups and the tines work well on steak or salad. 9.5 x 3 x 0.6”. They snap together and can be clipped to a carabiner. The spork is perfect with stoves like the JetBoil Flash system.
CJ M I have Gyot, both sizes, they’re awesome! Walmart had a deal on UCO switch and got it too. I like both products, both very well made.

You convinced me to get the UCO Gear Switch Spork some months back because of this video. Keep up the good work.
I am glad the knife can cut even a steak. And while I do not camp so I have no need for eating freeze-dried meals in bags, it is great for reaching the last morsel at the bottom of a large peanut butter jar.
try the light my fire titanium spork! I use it everyday for every meal for years now and it is going strong.
That's what I use. I like it but it is a little short. I looked up the Uco and it also comes in titanium and looks slightly longer! I might order that!
i personally favor the spoon of the light my fire than the others. Being titanium surely helped with strength that is lacking with the plastic version. I love it too.
For me titanium light my fire, and as a spare gsi folding spork
Matt Finish I have the uco plastic and titanium and love them both! My light my fire broke and I didn't like it anyway

Hi gideonstactical - Just came across this video. This is Chris, the owner and Head of Design at humangear. Cool video and I think it's great you took the time to share your thoughts on a wide variety of eating tools. I was a little surprised none of the utensils we make were considered though. We spent over two years designing a better spork that has since gone on to win more design awards than any polymer utensil ever. If you ever decide to do another video I think you'd be doing your viewers a service by checking out our line up. We make everything from super-minimalist one-piece versions, the original spoon-fork connecting tool, ultra-compact telescoping options, and fully-featured sets with knives, chopsticks and even toothpicks (it's the details that count). Everything we make is backed by a lifetime warranty, too (yes, even our $3 Uno - lifetime). Safe travels and bon appetit.
I use the Humangear gobites duo, which looks pretty similar to the UCO one you like. It's around the same price. Pretty popular with the backpacking community.
Chris Mays looks interesting , need to get the trio to get he knife though , but does have a bottle opener :)

I have a lot of varied canteen sets over the last 40+ years and I completely agree. Currently the UCO is probably the best general purpose spork type implement out there. For the bug out bag I would always choose metal over plastic.

That was thought provoking.
I've been using the dedicated set sawed in half ( not the knife, I have one already )and clipped to my wave sheath.
Anything longer and I wouldn't carry it daily.
I've never eaten out of a bag though so short for me is not a concern.
.
After watching this I think I'll reshape the handles to fit into my wave screwdriver holder for a full length option.
A quick look shows my expanding setup can go from 4 inches to 13 by straighteng out my wave and using it as a handle.
.
I'm not a thru-hiker.
It's my edc so a multi-tool is perfect.
.
Thanks for the great idea
I like the looks of the UCO 2 piece which would go in my bug out bag or maybe just when I have the freeze-dried meals. thanks for the comparison video.

We got a couple cheap long handled Ozark Trail spoons at walmart. They are about 9” long. They are easy to eat with, and good enough for stirring hot stuff, except they are a bit too flexible for heavy duty stirring. No fork tines, its just a spoon.
i have used an mre spoon and a buck 110 for years. no tines to break.
picked up a uco switch yesterday. steak, beans and a salad for dinner. the knife works. 👍👍
Have both in my bag as well and a 119 on my belt
I just learned about a new utensil called a splayd. They were invented in Australia. It's a combo of knife, fork, and spoon. I found your video searching for them.
I was gifted the k-bar recently and It's a total pos imho, they could have done way better with the spoon, I think they just wanted to get something on the market, I will be trying out the switch on your recommendation, thanks for this review it was a great comparison of some of the ones that are available and you covered issues that most reviews don't.

I got issued the yellow one during my time In the Swedish military. Its made of a terrible material. There was always someone that broke their spoon when we were out in the woods.
Out of curiosity, have you tried a titanium spork? I've had too many plastic sporks break while in the Backcountry and will no longer use them. My favorite is the toaks long titanium spork with polished bowl and the sea to summit version in either anodized aluminum or titanium. The cost of titanium has dropped a lot in the last few years and a nice titanium spork can be had for less than $15. Just a thought.
Good afternoon Aaron: I keep these two in my out door pack with out fail, the Titanium Long Handle Spoon & Titanium Long Handled Spork both are 8.6" long and weight is 0.6grams each I always have a knife on me so it's not needed on my eating utensils. For me I don't like gadgets on my utensils like detachable items like fork stand, bottle and can openers and such. With my stove I carry the can and bottle openers which is not used a great deal of time. I'm mainly packing dehydrated food and carry can goods with pull tabs most of the time.

Thanks. This is a item that can be overlooked yet important. That switch is very tempting but how does it hold up with time? It seems the plastic would eventually wear and become loose.
Woody: i camping now huh forky
Forky: (gulp)
The Eagle Products "Titan-Spork" is 17,9cm/7" and only weighs 18g/0,63oz. It has a regular spoon on one end, and a regular fork on the other. No knife, but a good folding knife will do the trick, and is great to have both for normal practical uses, and for self defense or as a deterrent against attackers or wild animals. The knives on most sporks seem pretty useless anyway...
I have the uco switch I think it's just built well and I like the length for dehydrated chow

So one time there were these two friends. One of those friends had a tub of ice cream in his fridge but his friend wanted some. So his friend proceeds to ask "can I have some ice cream." The other friend allowed him some ice cream, however he specifically told his friend he could only have a spoonful. To his surprise, his friend pulls out a comedicallyarge spoon!!! This technically counts as a single spoonful however this isnt what the friend expected and he was quite impressed yet annoyed at the matter

I like that UCO switch i might give it a go! I recently went from my long handled sea to summit plastic spoon to a toaks long handled titanium spork with polished head. I like it alot its long and the polished bowl gives you the feel of home and overall its pretty sharp cuts good when needed. I like your switch cause you get 3 utensils in one and you can use them long or short. The only down fall i can see to the switch is it maybe separating while your using it or maybe even losing one half by mistake being that it has two parts. Lastly its plastic so if it falls in the fire or gets too hot for some reason it will melt where as with metal it should it will survive short term direct flame or high heat. Im sure if your careful with any camping utensil these things wont happen. Always pros an cons i guess to anything. Thanks for the breakdown! Hike on!!

I mean, just get the titanium Light My Fire Spork and be done with it. Practically indestructible, very light, not too expensive. It ain't the ideal length for the deeper outdoor meal pouches, but those can just be cut down anyways. Sporks have always been a bit of a compromise. Use your regular knife or a pocket knife for all the cutting tasks. I also have a good number of plastic sporks from LMF that I use in lunch boxes and so on, I've never broken any of these because I know what they can and can't do. But the spoon on some of them have partially melted edges after stirring food in very hot pans. (Difficult to control the heat when the pan is over coals, fire or on top of a gas/alcohol stove)

i'd kill for a metal uco switch in my edc / travel kit. the polymer one is really good, but I just wish I could trust it for cooking.
Great vid and thanks . I hike and camp quite a bit and use mostly camping related stuff at home to cook . (I am single and live alone so every meal or snack is like my personal gear review 😆) . I do have quality utensils/plates/pots and pans for for hanging with friends and "inherited" 8 place silver silverware and china set too for special dinners 👫 lol . I love seperates such as the Sea to Summit 3 piece for car camping and eating lots of real food (it is light, great fork knife and spoon , the unique caribener is a nice addition . The UCO (switch?) may be my favorite overall . Despite being platic it cleans okay and has the benefit of being extendable for reaching into a meal . The switch would be PERFECT if it were made of titanium like the UCO spork . I am thinking the TI spork is the same design and only differs in material and weight but the TI is flame resistant . My #1 over all is an older KA-BAR hobo tool . Despite being large and heavy ... It has a VERY sharp and sturdy locking blade and a few extras (can opener, small blade small spoon and fork ) not a joy to use for eating but meets all of my requirements and is the one thing Icannot lose
Meant to say UCO fork/spoon becouse it is not a true spork

Forgot one thing the deep bags that the dehydrated food comes in today solve the problem of depth by cooking your food taking your razor sharp knife and cutting the top of the bag of or even simpler way is turning down the top of the bag like turning down the top of your sock . I don't care for sporks unless they have a spoon on one end and a fork on the other, and, I don't like plastic. I normally carry a stainless steel fork and tablespoon from a mismatched silverware set. Just because I'm in the woods doesn't mean that I must not be civilized LOL. I like your channel and your videos a lot so don’t take me the wrong way I like you brother. I scrolled down to see the links & noticed your favorite knives in different categories. I was surprised that you prefer the kabar, esee & fallkniven over anything Bark River. I’m guessing it’s the price which I have to admit is kinda steep but the convex grind outperforms all of them. I have yet to get an esee & I do want one seeing how tough they are (Rowen does a fantastic job with the heat treat). I respect your opinion and choices though & great video on the utensils I’ve been looking at them for a while now and agree with you all the way. I think UCO has a titanium version at Walmart.
