Overhead Lighting Is a CHEAT CODE! (annoying title but it’s true)

  • In this video I'll be taking you behind the scenes as we light this live music production. It had it's challenges... Mostly because I’ve always been intimidated by overhead lighting setups like this. That’s only because I didn’t have the right gear for it! Being able to FINALLY use my lights in this way was liberating!

    Tip: When you want to cut fabric just make a small cut then tare it up it will be straight :P

      I honestly think I was nervous because that’s what I usually do and when we stopped recording we went straight to doing that 🤦🏽‍♂️
      Maybe I was trying to be cool with a knife or something 😂
      Regardless, thank you for the tip!

    Great video and I’ve been wanting to implement overhead lighting like this for a more dramatic effect.

    I really love that light modifier that you have on it. Might have to take you up on it just a quick tip when you’re using a combo stand with the large boom, or a menace arm. You’re gonna wanna use a ratchet strap on the back end of it and strap it in one of the legs, so this way, for whatever reason the knuckle lets loose, nothing can come crashing down on thetalent’s head.

      @AnthonyRodriguezz  22 дня назад

      Thanks man! It’s great!
      So the knuckle has no ability to come loose because the weight is ever so slightly front heavy, which makes it tighten even more so. It’s also properly balanced. It’s an extra safety but a bit overkill for a setup like this I feel like.

    Great video, I think you shouldn’t add that. I think a customer seeing that would feel like you are nickel and diming them and maybe be turned off on paying you. I think that’s where TFP comes in. Use your TFP to capture images you want to promote and be booked for

      Think I shouldn’t add what? Also, what’s TFP?

    Great stuff bro! Love the overhead rig. That stand is definitely expensive but probably worth it. For over head rigs I use a menace arm kit with some ratchet straps but it takes a bit to setup.

    I have a couple of the Kupo 546 boom combo stands. Here is a tip, buy the wheels for it. They work great.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  27 дней назад +1

      They’re great!
      I’ll probably splurge on them soon. Kindof a bummer that they are so expensive for just being wheels 😅

    • @RobertJohnPhotography
      @RobertJohnPhotography 27 дней назад +1

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz They are pretty big and very heavy duty. Also, they are adjustable for different angles of legs. Have you seen the price for the Matthews Budget Wheels? Those are $151.00. I have both.

      @AnthonyRodriguezz  27 дней назад +1

      @RobertJohnPhotography literally just purchased the kupo ones after replying to your comment 😂
      They seem to be really solid for $82 after an education discount

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz Very cool. I also got lucky with one of my sets. B&H had a open box for $65. My other set paid full price. I know they're big but think you will really like them as they make life easier when moving that stand with a good load on it. Anyways, I subscribed to you and like your videos. Keep it up.

    Top down lighting has its place. Not sure if this was it. Can’t see the final
    Video. Shadow cast of top down needs to be used with fill lights or even “clam” style (fill on the floor bouncing up) in order to look good in most top down cases

      At east people are paying you to learn

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  25 дней назад

      lol… did you watch the whole video?
      Top down lighting is nothing new to me and there are PLENTY of clips from the shoot AND I actually explained that for some shots we needed to put a tube underneath because of the shadows, specifically when she was singing on the ground. The “learning” experience here was getting a heavier duty stand to boom a larger source pretty far out. Most of the time I simply pay a gaffer to do this.
      When she was standing up, there was no need because the source is so large that there were no racoon eyes or unflattering shadows.

    why not use a matt light?

      Not as much output for most of them and I don’t own one.
      Also the spread isn’t what we’re after. Would’ve worked though
