He was in 8th grade and took a 16-17 year olds spot in a sport that isnt even his modus operandi. Do you think you might be a little cocky if you were in his spikes? Hes a competitor with big league talent what do you want him to be, a meek person waiting for his allotted moment or a mamba mentality assassin cutting out the hearts of the weak and chomping on that shit raw because he can. I want the latter. A smooth talker, slick walker with murderous intent, resting behind poker face eyes, calm as settled snow, and just as cold.

Zach Wilson went to high school about 10 mins away from me. He would almost always win every game in a blowout, he's made so much improvement from high school to his junior year. I really think with the right coach and system, he could be a star in the NFL.

I have never understood why Ute fans are so obsessed with BYU. I think about Utah once a year, when BYU plays them. But anytime there is a video or an article written about BYU, Utah Ute fans come out of the woodwork. In fact, there are more Utah fans commenting on BYU vids and articles than there are BYU fans. it's like BYU is their second favorite team.

I'm sure alot of people have been coming back to watch these Zach Wilson college analysises. So many red flags but you see why some people were amazed by his potential. I hope he gets it together
He won't get a chance with the Jets again. Best case scenario he gets cut or traded, ends up backup for a more qb friendly coach and ends up getting a chance to redeem himself. He honestly looks so lost. It would take a lot of work to fix him

Great analysis of Zach Wilson’s play in that game. Fair & expert. I feel bad that you didn’t see any of his top 10 throws this season. He throws one of the prettiest long balls in football.

@@MrWingiii he does tend to throw more under thrown long balls than you want to see. Can’t tell if it’s Bc he reads 1-2-1 a fair amount or what. More than capable of dropping dimes but idk how well he translates immediately
First time watching your podcast. I’m now a subscriber. Really enjoyed it. I’m a BYU fan and we saw some of the bright spots you mentioned during Zach’s freshman year then watched him struggle at times last year. This year he seems to be putting it together and the degree to which he and his receivers seem to be in sync on the field is pretty impressive. Their freshman TE #83 (Rex) is also starting to get in sync with ZW as well. Rex has caught 21 passes from ZW this year and so far of those, 13 catches went for 1st downs and 6 for TD’s. That’s solid production.

I wish this was over the season and not just a single game. This kind of breakdown is awesome. What impresses me most about Zach is his demeanor. Doesn't get flustered, always keeps his cool, shakes off his mistakes. What worries me the most is that sometimes he holds the ball for too long and takes bad sacs when he should have thrown it away.
he’s not doing it nearly to the degree he did it last year. He’s stopped trying to be Johnny Manziel and it’s a huge improvement.

Brilliant analysis. When a viewer comes away feeing more cerebral and intelligent because of a breakdown that means the "coach" (you in this case) did his job. Appreciate the time and video. Keep up the good work.
Loved the breakdown. I remember thinking those same things on that interception as I watched it happen. TE across the middle was open as was the out at the bottom of the screen. Definitely a predetermined throw, one which he likes a lot. It's also worth noting that was a backup freshman WR, too. Not saying the decision was good, but rapport and experience make a big difference with that type of route.
Another cool aspect of your videos I would love to see is a mock draft type feel of what teams you think that certain QB in this case (Zach Wilson) system would he fit in!

Love the content man. You don't get blinded by the pre-draft hype like all those other "internet scouts". You actually look at the good and the bad part of each QB.
I have this feeling this man will be equal to Mitchell Trubisky . Though he says staring down the receiver on the play at 6:02 doesn’t matter. If he scanned he would have seen more open man to his right. With a free throwing lane . He also had no pressure. Then when he almost gets his receiver killed, there is no pressure. I fear he may be too paranoid and quick with the draw. Roll outs are better for him because it mobilizes him and may calm him down to the rush.
Thanks for breaking down Zach Wilson's film! Watching this game I cringed after some of these throws during the live game. The great news is that you broke down film from Zach's worst game by far. He didn't have his usual stuff that night for sure. The fact that you found some things that you did like about him on an off day is very encouraging to me as a fan. ✌

The 14:30 ish play I wouldn't really criticize him for, recognizes coverage, recognizes 7 man blitz, knows check down is going to be WIDE open. Looks like he knew right deep out was open too but cant fault him for coming back to an uncovered receiver.

Haven't got too deep into watching him but he reminds of baker Mayfield a bit mixed with some kyler Murray as far as release and arm angles hes like a combo of those two in my eyes.

As a old timer i played at every level.Here's why QB play has improved greatly.QB COACHING!!!They finally had people who can Coach them!!And look what happen.Never in history have more young QBs played early in the league.Guys like J.T. are making the game we love BETTER.Im more worried about the intangibles with this kid.How does he adjust to seeing real Cornerbacks and Linebackers that are faster then DBs he played against.They really didn't play top flight competition.

Awesome analysis JTO. Fan of yours when you played for my Niners; definitely appreciate your insights on Zach Wilson. I totally agree that he tries to get too cute sometimes and make splash plays when they're not there, but that may also be a product of his opponent, the score, and the fact that he knows he's good, and wants to have some fun trying backyard plays to see if they work. Overall, I've seen him make all the throws from and outside the pocket pretty much, and I've been impressed with his accuracy and arm strength. Only knock on him will be that he's playing in a much weaker conference than most of the other 1st round level QBs, but as you've clearly illustrated here, he's doing higher level things regardless of the opponent, and I think that definitely translates to the NFL. We'll see.. but I think Kyle Shanahan has plenty of clay to mold here if they decide to move on from Jimmy G.

At 13:52 I think you are incorrect on the read here. He is looking center right and safety adjusts he can then see all the DB's on the right side or peeling right. His check down RB is wide open and he knows it without looking. I would prefer a sure thing with my running back on the left with a open field to run through with a couple blocks and moves for a touchdown. Just my opinion however, thanks for the videos!
So much to love about his mechanics, his flexibility works like a precision instrument. He will grow into a top tier QB.

I saw him in BYU's bowl game last year and was not impressed. Thought he was just another hype job. I've seen him a few times this year and the entire Houston game and couldn't be more impressed. Great movement, arm, rifling balls all over the field in critical moments. Made some absolutely phenomenal plays. BYU also does some cool things on offense which is fun to watch. Seems to be a good leader as well, and his teammates gravitate to him. He looks 15 years old but plays like a grown ass man. Should make an NFL team better if he keeps progressing.
I felt like the answer to why they do that speed out to the field would be a good quote from Brett Favre, "Cause I (they) can."

as a lifelong BYU fan loved the video. wish you would have included clips from more games not just the WKU matchup. a lot of wilson's throws he has all day in the pocket, then rolls out for a few more seconds. i know that is pretty common in college ball, i'd like to see him get the ball out faster with more frequency. against better teams in the future at BYU or the pros he won't have that luxury.
Love the breakdown!! If GM where would you consider taking him? Is he a project to sit behind a Big Ben or a brees? Is he someone you can play straight away in a well run team (pats, 49ers)?
in my unprofessional opinion i think he is best suited sitting behind a vet for a year or two.. also a place with a good qb coach in place, such as pittsburgh who has big ben to sit behind and matt canada as their qb coach.. i think that would be ideal.. i am also a steelers fan ;)

Im from Salt lake bro about an hour from Provo I love Zach Wilson obviously lol. But about 3 years ago I told everyone this guys good hes gonna get a lot of attention if he stays healthy. Im hoping the best for the kid he needs too commit too the draft while his stock is high in my opinion. Really hoping the Broncos give him a really good look.

Do you think he’s keeping the ball too low when rolling out after PA? At least one play he had the ball near his waste, which added extra motion to his arm action. Ideally, wouldn’t he keep it higher to avoid strip sack from behind and keep his mechanics tight on the move?
On the murder ball with the split safeties he just has to wait for the WR to clear into the second window bc the safety is shaded slightly outside and jumps the slant. I watched Favre do this a lot wait until he crosses the safety, gun it in there.
Send him to an offensive line that can protect him, and several talented good hands people that want to become all pro.

I know it looks like a check down but I really wonder if that touchdown to 4 was a called play. Like maybe they were trying to show deep routes and draw the backers and then throw it to the back to slide behind them. It seems like a ton of their plays are designed to draw the linebackers.

Mr. QB School, would you be interested in specifically analyzing plays where Zach Wilson is pressured? The biggest knock against him I hear is that we don't know what Zach Wilson looks like with real pressure in his face. I believe that his decisiveness, elusiveness, and ability to navigate the pocket really helps alleviate that pressure (when the O-line isn't giving him a lot of time).

The thought I have on Zach Wilson is essentially that he has a super low floor, but a really high ceiling. Trevor Lawrence has high floor, high ceiling and that makes him better but if some team in the middle of the first wants to trade up behind the Lawrence/Fields crowd (say, maybe the Patriots, Bears, or Giants) and take Zach Wilson I think it is a smart investment

I don't agree with what you said on the checkdown with the two backers blitzing. I get that the post is open, but it's first and 10, they are up 21-3, is it really better to throw the post rather then the easy completion to your back in open field for at least a garanteed first down? I mean, it's man all over the field, 7 man rush, a safety dropping deep, i'm throwing to my back nine times out ten here. Also, technically your back gets a one on one with the safety, if he wins, he's free down the sideline if the receiver block

Well considering how he minced up Boise State and UCF (2 group of 5 schools that are better than a lot of power 5 teams) I think he will be just fine in the NFL. I’d be more concerned with Fields inconsistency or the rsw undeveloped talent of Lance

JT. I know you didn't like the hospital ball or the overtly aggressive (with poor recognition of the CB) back shoulder attempt but he does have the gunslinger nature to him. The arm angles, the early anticipation and a lot of unnecessarily aggressive ideas. We also see a number of these guys who will not attack anything that isn't a clean look. Won't let the ball go until they see the break. Play a very cautious game. Given the choice which do you prefer? I think it is easier to reign in a wild thing than it is to add aggression into the game of an overly cautious QB.

That check down is something I have no issue with. That RB was open as can be and there was a blitzer coming free up the middle. Basically, he checked into a near 100% completion, didn't take a shot from the blitzer, and was getting at least a 1st down. If he knew, by coverage, that RB would be wide open and he saw it... that was a really smart play. IDK why that wouldn't be the natural progression.
That RPO at 18:00 looked like if read by the defense better could be a pick 6 imo..
Just found your channel and love these film breakdowns. I'm a Broncos fan wondering if it's time to upgrade over Drew Lock or if we need to sty the course with him. After watching your video, he seems so similar to Lock (good and bad) with perhaps better footwork. That seem like an accurate comparison to you?
Play at 9;54 you think that’s possibly a matchup play? Maybe they knew he would open to the boundary as soon as he flipped to that side and it was just a good example of picking on that corner? I can’t think of any other reason they’d do that.

Only thing I can think of on the rush play you covered during about the 14 minute mark is he was just throwing where the rush was. So yes he saw the rush but I bet that is a hard rule for the offense. I kind of wish he'd have kept his eyes up field tho. Feel like Mahomes would back up even more in this situation and let that scissors route develop before going to the check down.

@@TheQBSchool I get the concern and I'm on your side I'm just playing devil's advocate that this might simply be him playing within the rules of the offense. But I would also like to see more tape where he makes good decisions with pressure on him. Feel like that's the main concern I have with him. But again some might just be the rules of the offense so I don't know how much is on him exactly.
Does it bother you that on some drops he turns his back on the LOS and spins to move left? It drives me crazy. He takes his eyes off downfield and the rush, and he is then locked into moving left, whereas if he drops straight back, then he can move left or right.
