Thank you! I bought one for my Blues Deluxe. Fantastic, and let's me get the master and channel volumes into the 3-4 range, for tight distortion and very nice clean.
@@arcticflying thanks mate. Tuesday i am gonna pick one up. The owner has already a jhs black amp box in the effects loop as a master volume. Do you have any issues with the amp?
I totally agree that it is annoying …. For years I have used an effects interface that controls volume input, so I never really noticed it…. But it is loud as hell if you directly plug into the amp
@@fred3893 a simple Boss 7 band EQ pedal works fine....the EQ pedal has a master volume dial...use that to control your volume signal( bring it down) while your amp remains turned up.
Easy $2 fix, a guitar volume pot wired to 2 female 1/4 in jacks. Plug it between the preamp in and out. Now you can crank the amp full to get a good tone and right amount of drive . Works as a master vol and doesn't cut your tone or drive when turned down
So does that allow to push the clean channel into edge of break up at reasonable volumes? Basically turning the volume pot into a "pre" control like in the blues jr?
This is great, but could you instead have a multieffects with a volume pedal in the effects loop to achieve the same thing? If I get this volume control then I'm limited to putting all my stuff into the guitar in.
You could do that but you might not like the sound. In fact I'd hedge my bets that you most likely will not like it at all! These FX loop "volume control" gadgets are NO substitute for a decent power attenuator. You then still use the guitar in for your multi FX unit. That's the correct and recommended way to use them. I once tried putting some a BOSS ME-50 multi in the FX loop of the Hot Rod Deluxe and didn't like the sound at all. In fact it sounded horrible, especially the distortions and overdrives. All my pedals now go into the guitar input and the FX loop is not used. As well as changing the V1 preamp tube to a lower gain 12AT7 type, I invested in a Dr Z Air Brake power attenuator.
So I am assuming that’s the master volume control doesn’t do anything? I don’t own one of these amps so I don’t know why you couldn’t just turn down the master volume.
I would argue that it's way overkill for bedroom, as are most 50-60+ Watt amps. If they have good master volumes, you can make do, but something smaller is probably wiser. That said, if you plan to play gigs, that's a good power to use for small-to-medium rooms, so getting something smaller might not cut it. If you're only going to own one amp, I'd say go for a 50-60W model and deal with the excess volume for at-home practice.
that's like literally literally the first piece of information you would find on the internet about these amps????? and literally what this video is about??
Unfortunately a volume pedal interferes with the distortion, unless you put it inbetween the preamp out and the power amp in on control panel of the amp.
@@donnywoodruff1052 it’s the way mine is and I also have a Mexican Pro Jr and it has the problem lol everything happens in the first 1/4 turn lol with can be pretty loud on the little beast but not the case on my HRD it’s nice and gradual.

My iq is too down... sorry
This thing is for the preamp?
And the original attenuator is for the power amp?

Use an EQ pedal in your Effects loop and you can do the same thing without sacrificing the loop
How? (I have never used an eq pedal)

If I use this volume module, can the hot rod deluxe be as quiet as blues jr. can be for home bedroom use?
Yes

Has this been tried with a Peavey 5150/6505?
does the blues deluxe iv also suffer from this problem? was thinking about buying a III or IV but only for cleans/pedals
