And honestly Severide can just as easily be killed off at some point down the line if the writers decide they don't want to write Storylines for Severide anymore just like They killed off Otis, Anna, Shay + Hawkins which in my opinion were all the wrong people to kill off!
So you may think Severide is indestructible + that he won't be killed off at some point but he's not indestructible especially to the writers who will do whatever they want whenever they don't think a certain character is important to the entire series anymore!!

It's always a nice scene to see a ladder truck stolen from a fire station and taken for a joyride! GTA San Andreas in Chicago! Can't get better than this except maybe a freight train being hijacked and throttled to notch 8 and driven to almost 90 or how fast the locomotive speed limiter is set to on most modern diesel electric locomotives. Now what would made this scene more interesting? Smashing the ladder truck through the door with glass flying everywhere! That reminds me of the classic 1974 007 movie The Man with the Golden Gun where Roger Moore steals a red AMC Hornet and smashes through the main gate with glass flying everywhere! Now that would be cool with a 75,000 pound ladder truck smashing through a glass gate!
Ok what even is the reason to steal a fire truck especially a ladder one and that too what are they gonna do with it anyway this was an amazing episode especially for the final episode and season
Best guess? Given that the thieves are changing or covering up the identifying decals on the truck, and the relative closeness of Indianapolis to Chicago.... They might be using it in a heist.
Chop shops, the tools, equipment, ladder systems, radios are all worth a lot of money when given to the right market, even if it's the black market for stolen goods.
Play GTA 5 where one heist choice involves posing as firefighters haha
Simple answer?
To quote one of my favourite movies, 'Go to Blazes', "everything stops for a fire engine. Including the law!"
Basically, in that film, a group of British Bank Robbers masquerade as London Firemen so they can pull off a job because nobody questions where a Fireman goes at the scene of a fire.
I suspect those guys will plant a smoke canister or a pyro, intercept or wait 30 seconds for the call to be made,rock up, act like they're putting out the fire whilst secretly loading the loot, jump on the truck and sail past the Cops who see nothing but an IFD Truck Ladder.
It won't be until the robbery is discovered and word gets out a CFD vehicle was stolen hours before, will they realise something went down.

Poor Truck 81 it got stolen it first appearance was previously Season 8 Episode 13 A Chicago Welcome when Truck 81 gets a new rig as a 1990 Spartan Gladiator and now got damage and exploded in the final scene in this episode and got stolen too🚒 😥
