Great to see you saving another nice blue car. Looking forward to seeing what the welding work looks like. The cable drive setup on the wiper arm looks like a version of the 240 system.
It’s great to see the assessment done and the decisions made. I’m visiting the UK now and learning about the challenges and ver here with wet and with sea side weather. :)
Yay she is so worth saving for sure. Agree with your decision too. Yeah, Atlantic Blue is single stage and that oxidisation is a pain. Great video as always man.
I absolutely love the back on these facelift cars. I did this same job on the wiper motor on our 98 940 and I must say I was pretty shocked by how poor that mechanism is. Definitely not one of Volvo's finer moments. This will be a lovely car in the end, again..!
Jah man Sledge! Wise move, while it sure is a great and usefull skill to have, welding is a bit like doing paint jobs, it's just worlds apart and a totally different end result when people who really know what they are doing (and does it every day) gets their hands on it. Just one of those jobs that's well worth letting a pro do, in the long run.
Great video again, on my 1989 240 DL i will installing about a $1000 in parts myself this next week so I will be busy and hopefully get most of it done before the snow comes here in Central Canada, I do love the winter, just not working on my Volvo in the cold weather until now, purchased a nice big propane heater almost 100k BTU"s, no problems there got a good fresh air and exhaust set up already 👍 nice to see you saving the 740, they just don't have the heat of a 240
I agree about the heat. My 140, 260 & 240 all had much better heaters than my 740. They all blew hot air, the 740 blows only warm air. Btw, I'm also in Central Canada. So, I need a good heater!
Wipers can be a pain. On my doblo the linkage had plastic ball joints that used to fall apart. I ended up modifying it with rose joints made for motorcycle gearchange linkages.
Keep on keeping on with these old Volvos. I do worry that in a moment relapse of attention you may step back and fall into the pit. If you could park in a better spot would be a relief to us all.
Hey mate, I can completely understand your decision not to weld load-bearing parts yourself. Very responsible of you. I just bought a new old 940 yesterday. And I was really happy not to find any worrying rust on the car. The days when I spent weeks welding holes are somehow slowly over. 😅I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with Vera 🙂Cheers..
I think the best improvement for any Classic is a set of rear light bulbs. Less likely to get rammed from the rear too! Just bought a 1993 245 in Ireland, which formed part of a large hedge.
Yeah that warm yellow glow from the headlights is nice. To be honest we have brand new Mercedes sprinter vans at work and I think my 940s full beams are more effective 😂
Just check that you haven’t fitted 24 volt bulbs… if the previous shed dweller worked for n lorries there’s a good chance all those bulbs will be 24v hence the dim….
yes unless your extremely careful with a machine, I'd suggest polishing by hand. I personally learned the hard way and have a nice 4 inch blue streak on my hood from polishing pad lol
the blue bulb you are talking about is the same exact bulb with some blue coating on it. The blue colour makes it seem brighter to our eyes, but it actually puts out less light because of the blue coating on the bulb. Stick with originals and for the love of God don't install LEDs
Chrome is not perfect. You are missing corner piece black rubber part and I saw few bites from the rubber in other places as well, but yeah, it looks alright :)
@@papplet1I didn’t fit them since I’d have to cut into the bodywork. I chose not to do that and installed the original 1987 rear lights. But agreed, if you’re prepared to cut into the bodywork of the car, the post 1990 lights will fit on pre-facelift sedans.
Glad you're saving her ❤
Spoiler!
I was like NOOOOOOOOO until i saw this 😅
Get that pit covered over before you fall into it, or work further away from it!
Yeah I was also worried rly. It's so easily missed, just one sec not thinking about it. Its also quite deep.
The Working Environment Authority will close down the work place/business with a heavy fine within a week after the release of this video.
Vera is a bit like me. Old, rusty and falling apart but worth saving! Thanks Sledge for believing in her.
I'm glad you're saving Vera! I love your channel!

What does single stage mean? Primer + basecoat, but no clearcoat over it?
Looking forward to seeing Vera back on the road

looks like you put a 24v globe in the LH headlight thats why its so dim

Just binge watched your recent postings. I’ve really missed your channel and it’s so great to have you back!
Glad you are saving her looking forward to seeing how well she shines up.

When I had my 740 in the late 80`s I was changing bulbs for a pastime. The only ones I never changed were the headlight bulbs
Just zoomed in on that tray you got the bulb out of and every single box had 24volt written on it🤣🤣🤣
the stash of bulbs, aren't they 24V?
Great decision!

I've owned a couple and I never knew you could take the scuttle panel off.
Now you are back up and running the channel in the UK it means you need to organise a meet next year. Get all the Volvo's together
Please please cover the pit, I really dont want to see an update with you in a plaster cast 😂
i owned a 740 always loved the rear end of the facelifted sedan. but i just hate the look of the front.. old front is the way to go
Can't wait to see you polish and wax it
Two 5 w bulbs is brocken in the back its two on each side, you hade only one on each side
3:01 I warned ya!
The 740 facelift is very cool, don’t change it out to a 940 front

you forgot the third brakelight, it's not working
One step at a time and you'll get there in the end.
Chrome is not perfect. You are missing corner piece black rubber part and I saw few bites from the rubber in other places as well, but yeah, it looks alright :)
My favorite channel
I thought you'd bought a Volvo digger!
I am getting emotional when I see things is broken in my car, getting fixed on this channel...
Can the modern style tail light be put on the old model of the 740?
The post 1990 tail lights won’t fit the pre 1990 cars.
@johnhopkins4920 what is different?
@ Connection points in the bodywork + the indentations.
Yes they will fit but you have to cut away the metal posts behind the taillights and get aftermarket wiring adaptors

PHEW!
