I have a sweater from H&M that's at least 10 years old now. Tbf nowadays I only bring it out around Christmas because it's a red-and-white kind of fair isle design. But my newer H&M stuff is holding up fine too. Maybe I'm super light on my clothes but I never understood people who say the stuff literally falls apart.
As a poor teen growing up and having a job that only pays 9/hr H&M was always my go to for clothes shopping for their affordable prices and still do. Good selection, nice fashion, and affordable.

I have H&M clothing that is over 10 years old and still look great unlike some designer labels I've had in the past that have barely lasted me 2 years. For me H&M definitely make quality clothing.
H&M in Britain is a level up from Primark but a level down from River Island, in my opinion. However, for me, a major factor that wasn't covered here is their price tags; they've got every currency on them. This shows the customer that they're a global brand, if you're abroad on holiday and need a t-shirt or undies in a pinch you've always got H&M because you've seen the tag with US Dollars, British Pounds, Swedish Kroner and many others. This also lowers printing costs and has a small environmental impact.
We don’t have River Island in the US, but I’m familiar with it, and we’ve recently started getting Primark. Your statement is pretty accurate. River Island is more adjacent to Zara in my opinion.
We used to have River Island online here in India. But it's nowhere to be seen now! I am talking about like 2013-14-15 ish. I don't know why they are no longer sold around here. I have always seen it to be cool.
Agree w you about penneys/primark - but in no way is river island above h&m. Anytime ive tried river island its always filled with nasty, sparkly tat, plastic shoes and plastic coats, outrageous prices for what you get in terms of quality. Bought a leather skirt in their a year ago, worn it about 10 times and its peeling. Paid 60 quid for it. Ridiculous. I do love their handbags though.
I have a few pieces of H&M clothing that I bought in 2002/3. It's crazy that they're 20 years old and I can still wear them today and not get a sideways glance.
I worked at H&M for 5 years. They treated the employees poorly, upper management had unreal expectations and the head office did not care about the employees. Thats speaking from the retail side, im not even gonna mention the condition of the workers who make the clothes. The majority of the "conscious" clothes are not made from "recycled" cotton.
That’s how it is for most of these companies who virtue signal. If they can get away with appearing to be “socially conscious” without actually changing, then they will absolutely keep doing what they are doing.
H&M replaced our Abercrombie and Fitch store in the mall some years ago and it’s still doing well! I wish more of these fashion stores take lessons from H&M.
I live in the UK and a H&M replaced a BHS (which was a home store brand that fell into bankruptcy) in my local mall which is about 30 minutes away from where I live. It's usually quite quiet in that H&M. Probably because there is another clothing store (called Primark) in the same mall which sells clothes for dirt cheap prices.
@@crimsontheotter it depends on the mall, my mall was mostly empty before the renovation. H&M was located on one side of the mall that was sharing space with a former department store Kohls which was later demolished for a new restaurant plaza. H&M moved in once Abercrombie closed that location.
Interestingly enough H&M actually moved into a mall near me at a time when other stores were closing. Their location is also at a convenient point to cut across from the food court to another part of the mall, taking over a space formerly occupied by a restaurant. As a result they get plenty of traffic and I'm sure it's worked out well.
Very timely video. I literally had never heard of them until yesterday when I went into their local store for the first time after not finding what I wanted in three other stores. I was pleased and got a few items, all very affordable and looking good. Then I see you post this video today, haha! And it's also timely because I have been getting into Swedish interior design lately, and had no idea H&M was a Swedish company.
I find it interesting that the conversation is always how H&M clothes don't last, but we have got a lot of 2nd hand H&M items that were still going strong after being worn many times by my children. It has amazed me and make me consider buying it new.
Cheap and cheerful done right. You can’t beat their basics. Their fashionable stuff is hit or miss, but it is everywhere. A bit of exploration with their web page says their northernmost store is in Alta, Norway. The southernmost, Christchurch, New Zealand.
What I personally like about H&M is their cheaper end of clothes are of good quality and the minimal style pretty much goes with everything. That and I love buying jeans from there, they're very comfy, durable and decently priced.
I've also like H&M partly because of their recycling programme: Exchange 4 clothes in return for a "15% Off Coupon". I've had a few of them after recycling my children clothes.
Out of all fast fashion, Uniqlo is probably the best quality and it is a lot more consistant.Uniqlo is more known to concentrate on basics rather than trends.
I remember many years ago (before online shopping) they would send out their catalog and my mom would let me circle clothes that I liked and we would order them through mail. I don’t know if they did that in other countries but it was very common in Sweden. That is one of my earliest memories of shopping. My mom still calls them “Hennes och Mauritz” and I still shop there (I think they have way better quality than Zara, but I might be biased)
One thing that annoys me about H&M and fast fashion is how they bang on about the environment and make substantiality lines that are still bad quality & still treat the suppliers terribly. Their “organic Cotten” is a total joke. If you want good quality clothes & can afford even slightly more expensive, there tons of middle of the road “premium” high street / mall brands to choose from
It's some of the best designed clothes of any mall store yet incredibly cheap. It's basically where I get 90% of my clothes now. Often times you'll find the same thing somewhere else but triple the price. Plus the quality at H&M really isn't that bad.
Fast fashion is responsible for the majority of water pollution in some South and south-east Asian countries. Nearly wiping out all life in some rivers where the industry is particularly concentrated.

On a topic of fast fashion. How da hell does one buy something and it ready to be thrown away after a few uses? My HM long black cardigan is 5yo and still looks good and i do wear it pretty often

As a dude, I still have H&M T-shirts & undies from 5 years ago. The T-shirts look a little loose already. But the boxers hold up and are still stretchy!

"Meant to be worn a few times and thrown away" Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass Almost every article of clothing I own is over a year old, and I wear most of them at least once per week. I do need some new clothes, but I'm always looking for clothes that will last me through a hundred or more wearings.
@@Tina-ts9wv The way Company Man talks about them, it sounds like they wear out quickly, but I see some comments saying otherwise, implying that the clothes are actually quite durable. Is it just that their preferred customer base is the kind to throw out clothes because they don't want to be seen wearing the same thing multiple times?
@@RaynmanPlays i think that's it, i kind of stay away from the items that will seem tacky by the next season or not in my personal style. @@Tina-ts9wv Exactly. It’s hit or miss. I don’t shop there much but for basics. I try to stick to cotton mostly cotton. If it’s synthetic, I’m very picky about what I buy, and that goes for every store, not just H&M. Certain things you just know isn’t going to last.
Never even knew what the store was until today. They only are in the cities here in Western Canada, and I've only ever seen them in passing in the malls. Never knew what they sold or that they were an affordable brand. The stores always look so high-end, I never even thought to go inside. I also thought they were only poised towards women so never even gave it a second though. The more you know!
I have a memory of H&M that I question if it’s real or not, but I remember being young in the early/mid 2000s and having a matching outfit to my mom from H&M. That’s my earliest memory of shopping there. But it became one of my go-to stores to shop at in middle school and high school. I used to love their jeans, but the quality and sizing started to change. I love the concept of collaborating with high end designer brands, I got a cute Isabel Marant hoodie there once. Now in my late 20s, I tend to go there for basics like solid color tees because it’s convenient and more than affordable.
Compared to EXPRESS that’s crazy expensive , H&M is awesome with great business professional and business casual designs not too over priced and not too cheap !
I loved it when a large H&M opened in my small home townnin the 90’s when I was a teen 🤗 Suddenly affordable but not grandma-like clothing became available to me 😝 I still go to H&M for a lot of my basics. I feel that Zara’s clothes are not as good, their sizes are often too small (a Zara size L is not the same as a size L anywhere else 😑) and the fabrics are often too thin and crappy. I still have H&M stuff I bought 15 years ago 😂
Nowadays I see colleges collaborating with H&M. They will have a whole table in the teens section with like Harvard and UCLA hoodies. I also saw collabs with Blackpink and Sex education from Netflix there where even a couple Keith Herring pieces. There are billie eilish t shirts, and. It to mention all the Disney and Warmer bros merch. They are casting the widest net to get everyone to have H&M in their wardrobe.
Those aren’t all exactly collabs, most of those brands just have licensing that gives a whole bunch of different companies access to use their names and images. You can go to so many stores and find band tees with the same graphics of artists and logos as other stores. But it’s always cool when they get exclusive collections.
@@freakytostadacartoon I think they change materials on products from time to time. I used to love their jeans, but they started to make mostly thin stretchy type jeans so I stopped buying them. I recently went in and saw some more rigid less stretchy jeans similar to what I used to wear. I also have a really old tank top from over 10 years ago that’s held its shape vs some t shirts from recent years that haven’t held up as well.
When they first opened stores in my hometown of New York, I found their clothes very cheaply made with a lot of polyester and other cheap synthetic fabrics. So I avoided them. Several years later, I gave them another try and was happy to find way more clothes that were 100% natural fibers. Nowadays I shop there for basics. I disagree with your comment about the clothes being only worn a few times before they fall apart. The natural fibers last for a good amount of time and wash and dry well. I've become a fan.
I thought it was weird that I've never heard of them so I went to their website to check where they're located. Turns out they're not big in New England, having only 3 stores in the northern part (NH,VT,ME). They're mostly in high density areas.
Bought lots of H&M and F21 during college years. Now I am only shopping from Uniqlo, which had sturdier clothing. Life is too overwhelming for me right now. The less shopping the better.
Stylish clothes, relatively cheap price for a desirable fast fashion brand, and pretty good quality for fast fashion brand (in my experience, my H&M clothes routinely outlast more expensive clothes from Macy's for example).
20 years ago I used to treat myself every few years to a pair of £7.99 ballet pumps from H&M and they lasted me through school and work for like years… now I brought a £10 t shirt from H&M and it is so thin you can’t even wear it out and I’m throwing it away after less than three months..
I don't know if you were aware, or even care but H&M did a collaboration with Sims 2 in 2007. It was a stuff pack called, rather uninspiringly, Sims 2 H&M stuff. I still play Sims 2, and even digitally, the clothes are still pretty fashionable, and I frequently use them in my gameplay. IKEA did a collaboration with Sims 2 as well. Just wanted to let you know.
I own cashmere sweaters and leather boots from H&M and I would not say that they were made to wear a few times and discard. They may have SOME cheap “fast fashion” that is made out of cheap fabric that falls apart. But they do have good quality fabrics and items at least online!
Funny thing about Northern New England... we don't have many chains no matter how large they are. Between New Hampshire and Vermont, there is 1 store. It's more than 90 minutes away and I didn't even know it was there. I was surprised to hear how big they arre!
H&M is a great choice. Got my Chino pants there, my favorite kind of pants for cheap. They hold well, but I do tend to go for Føtex, a Danish Supermarket-chain, that also have a Clothing Department. Got my winter bottom outfit (hat, undershirt and underpants) for just under 100 Danish Crowns. That is a steal, if anything is.
While my buying habit are spending more into high quality clothing that I can wear for years (for classic business attire, there's no risk of it going out of fashion), I must say that H&M provides fairly decent and well designed clothes if one's on a budget.
I do own a coat from H&M. I bought because it was the style I wanted and they had it. I'm not one that buys fashion for fashion's sake. It's relatively good quality, and since I'm not wearing it year-round, I think it will hold up for a few years for me.
In Australia we didn't get a H&M or Zara (cost-reasonable basic clothing) until 2014, which is a shame because I was a teen then and would have preferred to have had that option with the less money I had. We definitely missed out.
6:24 Wow. I've seen the company's stores...maybe twice in my life? I figured they were a fairly recent addition to the clothing industry. I never would have guessed the company is as old as it is today. Maybe I just do a really good job of avoiding the whole pop music scene and anything else that places value on transient and superficial "values" like looking "cool" or staying on top of the current trends. Yay, Me! Great work!!
Fast fashion or not I have H&M clothes that are couple of years old. I have numerous pieces from Versace, Balmain, Moschino, Giambattista Valli colabs!
Toronto Eaton Centre has the largest and most modern H&M store in Canada (one of the largest in North America), it's also the busiest H&M store in North America but that probably has to do with the fact that the Eaton Center is the busiest shopping mall in all of North America!
there’s 3 malls i visit with my family and all of them have a huge H&M store. there’s one that cuts the mall in half that serves as a shortcut to get to the nearest exit to your parking spot.
Please, Please do Kwik Trip. They are an amazing store that is Midwestern based. Started in Wisconsin, multi billion dollar company and the founder just stepped down as CEO in his 90's. Amazing story.
"Mauritz Widforss " hunting store chain is" Widforss" as their original name was to begin with is thriving as their sister company line in Nordic countries, and a very good store with much good products and quality.
On a trip to Egypt, the airline lost my luggage (yet again) so i had to buy some clothes to get me by. I went to H&M and found enough clothes for my trip. They weren't the cheapest and the locals said I paid way to much for what I bought. At first I liked the quality and comfort but after each wash the clothing aged noticeably. By the time my quick 3 week trip was over, the clothes were ready for the trash. Also, I bought 3 pairs of shorts which were all labeled the same size but they all fit differently. It seemed like the store sold clothes that normally would not be sold anywhere else. I have never shopped at H&M in America so maybe the quality is better here.
I have never bought a shirt or anything from HM that I have not worn at least 200 times. Not sure where you're getting the idea that you would only wear a piece of clothing once from.

Never heard of them. Great video.
When I saw the title of this thing "H & M" didn't even know what that company was. So it's good to learn about them.
Kinda weird to admit you love a brand but I really dig H&M. I take particular care of my clothing so their lack of quality isn't that bad for me.
Agree, I hace a H&M sweatshirt after 5 years in the same condition.
I've never heard of H&M until this video. Really only clicked on it cus I like your content.
Let’s also not forget that H&M had also an endorsement with EA and got their own stuff pack in sims 2 in 2007.
Well perhaps those who buy via internet or those who cannot check quality have those issues
Great broadcast
I haven't been in an H & M store for a very long time.
Finally a video on a non American company.
Love this channel but it's like 99% American focused, more videos like this are incredibly welcome 🙂
Never shop there, even though I live in Sweden, the sizes are too small. Most other chains here have larger sizes.
I've literally never been in an h&m
I don't know if you were aware, or even care but H&M did a collaboration with Sims 2 in 2007. It was a stuff pack called, rather uninspiringly, Sims 2 H&M stuff. I still play Sims 2, and even digitally, the clothes are still pretty fashionable, and I frequently use them in my gameplay. IKEA did a collaboration with Sims 2 as well. Just wanted to let you know.
Thanks for the informative video as usual. Never shopped there, but seen some pretty wild commercials on TV so that's how I heard of them 😁
I own cashmere sweaters and leather boots from H&M and I would not say that they were made to wear a few times and discard.
I'm so happy to discover yet another retailer that does not carry my sizes..!
I really like their clothes.... Especially the blouses and so forth.
I do own a coat from H&M. I bought because it was the style I wanted and they had it. I'm not one that buys fashion for fashion's sake. It's relatively good quality, and since I'm not wearing it year-round, I think it will hold up for a few years for me.
I have never had any desire to shop there. In person or online.
Their quality is really really good for the price
In Australia we didn't get a H&M or Zara (cost-reasonable basic clothing) until 2014, which is a shame because I was a teen then and would have preferred to have had that option with the less money I had. We definitely missed out.
Love company man
Great video
I've only ever bought active shorts from there, but the fabric is quite good on them and they hold up well for only being $12.99 each.
You rock and keep up the good work all of you.
I have blank jackets and shirts that are years old, I’m not sure why ppl would toss out after a couple uses
Fast fashion or not I have H&M clothes that are couple of years old. I have numerous pieces from Versace, Balmain, Moschino, Giambattista Valli colabs!
I've never been in one and I'm in a large metro area and I don't even know where one is. I had no idea they were that big.
I haven't heard the name H&M since I last saw a Mall in the 00's
I suspect some alternative sourcing at that store.
@@jonasthemovie no that’s just H&M, the quality is shit
@@calebtheowl1516 Sure. But they have strict sizing tables.
their quality isn’t good anymore
I've never been in one of the stores. I always thought based on the branding and marketing it was supposed to be a high end store.
Good video.
I have never bought a shirt or anything from HM that I have not worn at least 200 times. Not sure where you're getting the idea that you would only wear a piece of clothing once from.
Can you do one on Zara ?
I don’t think I’ve ever shopped at an H&M store.
Never been to H&M nor desire to
