To me H&M is the IKEA of fashion. Affordable but well designed. I remember when Stella McCarthy designed a collection for H& M and it sold out of the NYC store. Folks lost their minds and it made the news.
I always liked H &M because the clothes feel current but not trendy.
Facts.
Also both sell items of poor quality 😂
Well, at least you don't have to sew the clothes together yourself. lol
Both have shitty quality and ugly design.
who is Stella macarthy?
I love their mens clothing, it’s fairly cheap and comfortable. I’ve never known it was known for low quality since my stuff has always held up really well!
It’s not low quality. Maybe some of there products. But I own cashmere sweaters from H&M and leather boots and they are good quality. Possibly they have stuff that is more trendy’s and with cheap fabrics?
a lot of their fabric is of lighter material. So maybe it wont hold up in a construction site. But you shouldnt be wearing H&M at a construction site...
@@lauraukoro most of their clothes are polyester. Polyester and plastic basically the same
The jeans are the best thing... they're Wal-Mart prices at designer level quality. The only issue is their selection for men isn't nearly as diverse as for women.
I haven't heard the name H&M since I last saw a Mall in the 00's
My first introduction to H&M was in the H&M Fashion stuff pack for The Sims 2 in the early 2000s. I'm not hip.
Why is it that everything u see a fashion designer, they are wearing something u wouldn't be caught dead in?
TBH, I'm a slob that has zero fashion sense. I still love to hear about the business of business; that part is neat. But if money was no object, I'd look backward to different eras for fashion. Just not big on my own time.
I'm not convinced the goods are "lower quality" in a general sense. I buy my short there, they've lasted years, longer than other brands. The shoes can be meh, but I don't wear non athletic shoes all that often so the fast fashion mindset Mike explains works perfectly for me on those.
A brand who's stuff doesn't last though is Brooks Brothers.
I like h&m. They always got good deals at the mens clearance section. I bought a coat like 5yrs ago and still looks new. Love the quality.
same!! i have a really nice gray coat from them that i bought for 35 euros at a sale, it's fair quality for the money. perfect company for those of who don't have enough money to buy tailored clothes.
Agreed! Some stuff at H&M falls apart quickly, but if you pick right you can get some very fair deals on clothes.
I have a sweater from H&M that's at least 10 years old now. Tbf nowadays I only bring it out around Christmas because it's a red-and-white kind of fair isle design. But my newer H&M stuff is holding up fine too. Maybe I'm super light on my clothes but I never understood people who say the stuff literally falls apart.
H&M in Britain is a level up from Primark but a level down from River Island, in my opinion. However, for me, a major factor that wasn't covered here is their price tags; they've got every currency on them. This shows the customer that they're a global brand, if you're abroad on holiday and need a t-shirt or undies in a pinch you've always got H&M because you've seen the tag with US Dollars, British Pounds, Swedish Kroner and many others. This also lowers printing costs and has a small environmental impact.
We don’t have River Island in the US, but I’m familiar with it, and we’ve recently started getting Primark. Your statement is pretty accurate. River Island is more adjacent to Zara in my opinion.
We used to have River Island online here in India. But it's nowhere to be seen now! I am talking about like 2013-14-15 ish. I don't know why they are no longer sold around here. I have always seen it to be cool.
River island is terrible quality for the price. H&M is by far superior.
Agree w you about penneys/primark - but in no way is river island above h&m. Anytime ive tried river island its always filled with nasty, sparkly tat, plastic shoes and plastic coats, outrageous prices for what you get in terms of quality. Bought a leather skirt in their a year ago, worn it about 10 times and its peeling. Paid 60 quid for it. Ridiculous. I do love their handbags though.
I live in the birthtown of H&M in Sweden and I have seen them grow to the giant they are today.
On a topic of fast fashion. How da hell does one buy something and it ready to be thrown away after a few uses? My HM long black cardigan is 5yo and still looks good and i do wear it pretty often
I worked at H&M for 5 years. They treated the employees poorly, upper management had unreal expectations and the head office did not care about the employees. Thats speaking from the retail side, im not even gonna mention the condition of the workers who make the clothes. The majority of the "conscious" clothes are not made from "recycled" cotton.
That’s how it is for most of these companies who virtue signal. If they can get away with appearing to be “socially conscious” without actually changing, then they will absolutely keep doing what they are doing.
Welcome to retail!
One thing that annoys me about H&M and fast fashion is how they bang on about the environment and make substantiality lines that are still bad quality & still treat the suppliers terribly. Their “organic Cotten” is a total joke. If you want good quality clothes & can afford even slightly more expensive, there tons of middle of the road “premium” high street / mall brands to choose from
As a poor teen growing up and having a job that only pays 9/hr H&M was always my go to for clothes shopping for their affordable prices and still do. Good selection, nice fashion, and affordable.
I have H&M clothing that is over 10 years old and still look great unlike some designer labels I've had in the past that have barely lasted me 2 years. For me H&M definitely make quality clothing.
They also made a stuff pack for The Sims 2! I remember this being my first exposure to the brand as a kid.
For a moment I thought it said HHM (BCS).

H&M replaced our Abercrombie and Fitch store in the mall some years ago and it’s still doing well! I wish more of these fashion stores take lessons from H&M.
I live in the UK and a H&M replaced a BHS (which was a home store brand that fell into bankruptcy) in my local mall which is about 30 minutes away from where I live. It's usually quite quiet in that H&M. Probably because there is another clothing store (called Primark) in the same mall which sells clothes for dirt cheap prices.
@@crimsontheotter it depends on the mall, my mall was mostly empty before the renovation. H&M was located on one side of the mall that was sharing space with a former department store Kohls which was later demolished for a new restaurant plaza. H&M moved in once Abercrombie closed that location.
But I love the quality of Abercrombie
@@ethan_us Abercrombie was really good, but I think their popularity faded several years ago, they closed down stores in certain malls.
@@Markimark151Yeah, I remember everyone in middle school wearing Abercrombie but by the time we got to highschool it was lululemon and nike lol
I’ve shifted away from H&M and have been loving Uniqlo for the past few years!
Out of all fast fashion, Uniqlo is probably the best quality and it is a lot more consistant.Uniqlo is more known to concentrate on basics rather than trends.
Please do Morphe next. They just shut down ALL of their stores.
Never been inside or purchased from H&M. To be honest knew little to nothing about them.
H&M isn't what it use ti be. Their quality of material dresses and coats are feeling more cheap imo. I use to like their styles, but everything in there looks bland.
I have a few pieces of H&M clothing that I bought in 2002/3. It's crazy that they're 20 years old and I can still wear them today and not get a sideways glance.
3 Simple words: AFFORDABLE STYLISH CLOTHING. No long explanation needed.
I absolutely thought that H&M was a high end brand until this video. I never bothered to shop there because I assumed I wouldn’t be able to afford it.
Same
It’s very cheap and the quality of clothing matches it , I wouldn’t bother , Zara is about the same price and so much better
Can't be so quick to assume. Never know what you're missing out on lol
Wow! That's shocking to me. I mean, that's where everyone can find the most affordable clothes
It's some of the best designed clothes of any mall store yet incredibly cheap. It's basically where I get 90% of my clothes now. Often times you'll find the same thing somewhere else but triple the price. Plus the quality at H&M really isn't that bad.
Used to love them… but last things I bought from them were terrible quality… specially sweaters and hoodies..
"Meant to be worn a few times and thrown away"
Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass
Almost every article of clothing I own is over a year old, and I wear most of them at least once per week. I do need some new clothes, but I'm always looking for clothes that will last me through a hundred or more wearings.
Yeah i def have a lot of my h&m items for Years of abuse before i let it go
@@Tina-ts9wv The way Company Man talks about them, it sounds like they wear out quickly, but I see some comments saying otherwise, implying that the clothes are actually quite durable.
Is it just that their preferred customer base is the kind to throw out clothes because they don't want to be seen wearing the same thing multiple times?
@@RaynmanPlays i think that's it, i kind of stay away from the items that will seem tacky by the next season or not in my personal style. There's gotta be consumers out there that buy clothes just for an event or photos and get rid of them right away. I feel like some brand like shein has genuine bad quality
@@Tina-ts9wv Exactly. It’s hit or miss. I don’t shop there much but for basics. I try to stick to cotton mostly cotton. If it’s synthetic, I’m very picky about what I buy, and that goes for every store, not just H&M. Certain things you just know isn’t going to last.
I think you should do a follow up video on Pizza Hut. SunnyV2 just made a new video on Pizza Hut so it's going to be a trending topic. Plus I just really like learning about fast food restaurants.
as someone who works at H&M, thank you for making a video about them
This is the channel I go to to make me feel good about myself and the fact that I spend so much time on RUclips. I’m learning something!
this channel is underrated in terms of subs but if you look at the comment section, lots of people are engaged to share their thought on the company being featured. the weekly release was also under appreciated
Interestingly enough H&M actually moved into a mall near me at a time when other stores were closing. Their location is also at a convenient point to cut across from the food court to another part of the mall, taking over a space formerly occupied by a restaurant. As a result they get plenty of traffic and I'm sure it's worked out well.
I just bought a pair of jeans from H&M today. Lovely. The way H&M has grown is commendable.
Was the quality better than other places?
I've also like H&M partly because of their recycling programme: Exchange 4 clothes in return for a "15% Off Coupon". I've had a few of them after recycling my children clothes.
I did not realize this. Thank you.
Fast fashion is responsible for the majority of water pollution in some South and south-east Asian countries. Nearly wiping out all life in some rivers where the industry is particularly concentrated.
Never shop there, even though I live in Sweden, the sizes are too small. Most other chains here have larger sizes.
Cheap and cheerful done right. You can’t beat their basics. Their fashionable stuff is hit or miss, but it is everywhere.
A bit of exploration with their web page says their northernmost store is in Alta, Norway. The southernmost, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Can you do a Uniqlo one, since it's one of the biggest clothing brand in the world and also really popular in Asia (at least some part of it) and also starting to gain traction in the West
Please do a video about Greyhound next and why they are hated.
What's greyhound?
@@crimsontheotter a travel bus alternative to taking long train or airplanes
Kinda weird to admit you love a brand but I really dig H&M. I take particular care of my clothing so their lack of quality isn't that bad for me.
Agree, I hace a H&M sweatshirt after 5 years in the same condition.
@@freakytostadacartoon I think they change materials on products from time to time. I used to love their jeans, but they started to make mostly thin stretchy type jeans so I stopped buying them. I recently went in and saw some more rigid less stretchy jeans similar to what I used to wear. I also have a really old tank top from over 10 years ago that’s held its shape vs some t shirts from recent years that haven’t held up as well.
They have made some very questionable decisions that were distasteful though .
Nowadays I see colleges collaborating with H&M. They will have a whole table in the teens section with like Harvard and UCLA hoodies. I also saw collabs with Blackpink and Sex education from Netflix there where even a couple Keith Herring pieces. There are billie eilish t shirts, and. It to mention all the Disney and Warmer bros merch. They are casting the widest net to get everyone to have H&M in their wardrobe.
Those aren’t all exactly collabs, most of those brands just have licensing that gives a whole bunch of different companies access to use their names and images. You can go to so many stores and find band tees with the same graphics of artists and logos as other stores. But it’s always cool when they get exclusive collections.
I have several H&M clothing, the quality isn’t bad. They’ve lasted several years and are still in my closet.
I have never bought a shirt or anything from HM that I have not worn at least 200 times. Not sure where you're getting the idea that you would only wear a piece of clothing once from.
I loved it when a large H&M opened in my small home townnin the 90’s when I was a teen 🤗 Suddenly affordable but not grandma-like clothing became available to me 😝 I still go to H&M for a lot of my basics. I feel that Zara’s clothes are not as good, their sizes are often too small (a Zara size L is not the same as a size L anywhere else 😑) and the fabrics are often too thin and crappy. I still have H&M stuff I bought 15 years ago 😂
Hahaha a Zara large is what I wish I could be... I'm a J Crew Large, which is at least not an Old Navy Large, lol. But Zara sizes are hilarious.
If Pete Davidson is good enough for H&M I guess their prestige ain't all that lol, nahh just kidding.
They suck at advertising. Recently I have seen so many of their commercials and I had no idea what they actually sold until I watched this video.
Never even knew what the store was until today. They only are in the cities here in Western Canada, and I've only ever seen them in passing in the malls. Never knew what they sold or that they were an affordable brand. The stores always look so high-end, I never even thought to go inside. I also thought they were only poised towards women so never even gave it a second though. The more you know!
And then there's that other store you could talk about. You got to go to Ross!
Making video about hm succeeding while their getting closed down
Maybe do one on Uniqlo, great quality and durable clothes with good prices
I would love to see an Uniqlo one
I heard nothing about the crazy controversies they were in recently
I own a karl lagerfeld h&m shirt. It's probably insanely old - i bought it second-hand. It's in really good shape for such an ancient t-shirt
Never interested in H&M and now knowing about fast fashion, I'm against them. Clothing should last a long time and if it wears out after wearing them less than a dozen times, something is wrong.
I've heard of them, but never went inside one. I don't think I even knew they were a clothing store
Unless it's one of their bigger stores...they don't have a plus size section.....I've made it a point not to shop from any retailers with physical stores that don't have a plus size section....I should be able to shop in all their stores at anytime. I don't want to go in to be told my size is only online..
just lose weight. i’ve been kinda fat for almost my whole life and was able to get skinny by just consuming 1000 calories a day. And I barely exercised too. Life is much better for me now because of it, i highly recommend
Are they? They won't exist in 3 years! 😂😋😇🤐
I find it interesting that the conversation is always how H&M clothes don't last, but we have got a lot of 2nd hand H&M items that were still going strong after being worn many times by my children. It has amazed me and make me consider buying it new.
They definitely last more than few uses.
H&M have amazing selections. I wish the male section was bigger but I can’t complain. I’m currently wearing a shirt from H&M actually and it’s super comfortable. I live in the US and that’s where I get my clothes. But I went to Japan a few months back and I bought clothes from H&M there, and they are amazing quality. Bought pair of pants I have yet to see here in the US.
Please Do A Rise & Fall Of Meez
What I personally like about H&M is their cheaper end of clothes are of good quality and the minimal style pretty much goes with everything.
That and I love buying jeans from there, they're very comfy, durable and decently priced.
Fast fashion is devastating for our planet and the foundation is a PR campaign.
And the climate hysteria eco-hoax is a PR campaign for tyranny.
Facts
But the workers enjoy their industry beating high wages and the landscape improvements the industry brings to their...developing nations.
Idk but I got a sweet bomber jacket from them 6 years ago, still in perfect condition today lol
I haven’t bought anything from H&M for years. H&M for me is associated with really bad quality and pollution, just in general not the best bang for my buck.
I've never had a clothing item from H&M thats lasted longer than 3 months. I'd rather spend $50 on a top from Macy's/Nordstrom that lasts years than $10 on an H&M top that's trash in weeks.
I don't think that the stuff is THAT throw away, because my daughter wore a dress from there for three years straight, pretty much. And it didn't fall apart, she's just too big for it now.
Always hated HM. Wash the clothes once and they shrink. Never bought more than a few shirts from them. Also never enjoyed the way their associates dealt with customers. Couldn't care less about helping their customer base.
I tried H&M several times and never again. Cheap fabric and poor cut.
I’m not even wealthy, but I know their clothes will not last.
As a dude, I still have H&M T-shirts & undies from 5 years ago. The T-shirts look a little loose already. But the boxers hold up and are still stretchy!
Can you do one on Zara ?
few times and thrown away? I've been literally using H&M stuff for years without those breaking or anything
I find a lot of their stuff is unfashionable and always have that one thing that makes the garment look off, cheap material, weir texture, ugly design, etc.
i stopped shopping at h&m and zara because they're fast fashion, and the quality isn't as good compared to other midrange+ brands.
And I've never even seen an h&m store before 🤣
I hate fast fashion. I never shop there.
I fail to see why Pete Davidson has become so popular. He is okay. But to me, he is nothing special.
Some Swedes still call it Hennes och Mauritz to this day. It's either that or HM, for some reason we just drop the &.
cheap child labor keeps overhead low.
I reckon
Absolutely rubbish disposable clothing. Makes Old Navy look high end.
20 years ago I used to treat myself every few years to a pair of £7.99 ballet pumps from H&M and they lasted me through school and work for like years… now I brought a £10 t shirt from H&M and it is so thin you can’t even wear it out and I’m throwing it away after less than three months..
I have blank jackets and shirts that are years old, I’m not sure why ppl would toss out after a couple uses
I currently live in the Midwest, & I've never heard of H&M. They definitely have an interesting history.
I was just let go from H&M… and this just so happens to be the topic of the day. 😂
Damn, I always thought it was “hombre y mujer”, man and women, in Spanish
Ultra cheap clothes that sold on basis of marketing just like forever21
#3 explains why when I look inside the doors of the store in my mall I can tell they don't target my generation. I admit I wondered why they came to my city as I thought they were a high end European store. Now I know cheap price and quality if marketed correctly can appear to be high end fashion when it's not.
I've literally never been in an h&m
I feel like the quality concerns of H&M are really overblown. I've been able to get several years out of several things I've bought at H&M, which for the price, that's pretty good to me. Sure, they aren't high quality, but they also won't just fall apart and they work really well when you're on a budget but want to look fashionable. Also, I've never seen another store that sells such a variety of plain/basic clothes that can be mixed and matched so easily
I'm not going to lie I thought that they went out of business and were no longer even relevant as a company 😅
Child labor. End of story
Stylish clothes, relatively cheap price for a desirable fast fashion brand, and pretty good quality for fast fashion brand (in my experience, my H&M clothes routinely outlast more expensive clothes from Macy's for example).
"I have to confess, I'm not a native Swedish speaker"
*Ya don't say*
I thought they were done for? Didn't they close down a bunch of stores last year?
I bought a corduroy sherpa jacket last year there and really like it. It probably won't last a decade but it was on sale for $60 and looks great.
Never heard of them. Guess I’m not cool and I’m okay with that lol
Everytime I hang out with my friend, we go and buy a new Fedora-like hat from H&M, it started as a joke but has actually become something we do
Never been to H&M nor desire to
I'm so happy to discover yet another retailer that does not carry my sizes..!
I've never been in one and I'm in a large metro area and I don't even know where one is. I had no idea they were that big.
I remember many years ago (before online shopping) they would send out their catalog and my mom would let me circle clothes that I liked and we would order them through mail. I don’t know if they did that in other countries but it was very common in Sweden. That is one of my earliest memories of shopping. My mom still calls them “Hennes och Mauritz” and I still shop there (I think they have way better quality than Zara, but I might be biased)
