Hope your Nativity Fast has been spiritually profitable in preparation for the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ!! Christ is born!! Glorify Him!!
Thank you for these icon breakdowns you've been doing, you're explaining details I've never heard before despite reading up on their meanings in my past studies. Have a Blessed Nativity, brothers.
I have read that the old man, talking to Joseph is not the devil it is Isahia the Prophet. Joseph is here being reminded of the prophecies of old (Isahia 7:14) ultimitaly these prophecies clear his doubt. The idea is from the Jacket the old man wears. The Jacket symbolizes asceticism. It is like the jacket of St. john the foreunner, the greatest of the prophets. Christ is Born ! May you have all a wonderful feast
The Greek word “katáluma” was mistranslated as “inn” in English. “There was no room at the inn” in Luke’s gospel actually meant there was no room on the kataluma, a raised area in a cave where a family cooked, ate and slept. Bethlehem was quite primitive at the time with people living in caves like in Cappadocia. The holy family were thus relegated to a lower level of a cave, where animals were kept. This is why you enter a cave at the church of the nativity in Bethlehem to see Christ’s birth place. I often wonder if the whole scene is a rerendering of Plato’s allegory of the cave, i.e., the light of the world born in the darkness of the cave.
Nice video . I don't think you wantwd to commit heresy by saying that Theotokos died. If you study an othodox icon, you should know that in the orthodox faith that Mary has ascended into Heaven, she did not Die! ❤
The Orthodox have always believed in the Dormition (the falling asleep or "death") of the Theotokos, and then her assumption. We believe she died and the tomb is in the Holy Land. It is only the Roman Catholics (and not all of them) that believe she never died. For more on the Dormition Icon (which you will see in most Orthodox Churches and which depicts her funeral) watch this video ruclips.net/video/_gLLGC_rwcI/видео.htmlsi=28-TkSXRINJSMH8D
My grandmother accidentally referred to the crib as a crypt yesterday, and now I can show her this and say she was an accidental theological scholar.
Haha yes indeed!
Without the Nativity, there's no Pascha. Without the Pascha, there's no salvation.
Without the Theotokos.
This is a work of art
The first theme that came to mind for me when I saw the washing at the bottom right was baptism.
