This is why I got a new job and didn't tell my old job until the day of , i started my new job that I wasn't coming in . 2 weeks my butt , my dog is loyal to me that's it .
lucky! some of us work in sectors where there are non competes. so we can't get a job while on the job we have to leave or tell our employer we are applying to a potential competitor.
The employer isn't going to give you 2 weeks notice that you're out of a job!

Exactly. "We're like a family here" is a huge red flag during the interview process

Let’s keep this meeting brief. I have an interview with 4 other families today.
I'm shocked, just not at the layoffs. I'm shocked these folks actually believed there is a shred of decency left in corporate America. Did they really buy into the "you're a member of the Tesla family " line.

What a messed up way to layoff employees. You don’t find out until you’re trying to clock into work.
How else would you do it?
@@TheoneGodfather A courteous thank you for your service note would help. they used to do that but corps has gotten more radical e.g. no call no show for 2 days, employment at will, zero severance pay! More rights are being taken away from many industry overtime, bad 401k investments that charges you too much management fees and crap growth, expansive health plans that doesn't cover at least 90% of the costs. Younger generation, know that no company in America is guaranteed til you retire. The days of working 30 years or more for the same company ended a long time ago. Never put all your eggs in one basket for a company. Have a backup plan
Their still out there, but hard to find. I'm hopeful that I can retire from my job in 20 years with 36 years of service. Benefits, Pension, Wages are top tier for my skilled trade. UAW 4 Life.
@tomf8449 they'll sell the company a few years before the bulk of you and your co workers are due to retire. In the paperwork it will state that they only had to pay you benefits if they keep the company. The new company will offer you half benefits or nothing. You'll take it.
I HAD US MILITARY JOBS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO LAST 4 YRS. SOME LASTED LESS THAN 3 WEEKS!
That’s not necessarily true. A lot of companies and owners do the right thing. But I know what you are saying.
Stay away from Tech and learn a trade!!! Plain and simple! All tech positions are expendable and die away as technology changes.
Wow, here in Germany, it's a 3-month warning when you are laid off so you can look for another job. Terrible.
In the U.S. we have unemployment insurance. As soon as you are laid off you apply for unemployment compensation.
That would never happen in America. A the government is on the side of capitalism and B. They like to have you on your toes working extremely hard to NOT be canned.
I remember reading that Germany’s productivity was much higher.
@@PatHand-og9ydGermany’s economy is down the tubes. It has been struggling for the past year.
An angry employee could do a lot of damage in 3 months. When I was younger I gave a 2 week notice when quitting a job and they fired me the same day. I give no notice anymore, last job I quit the morning I was scheduled. I walked in and told them I quit.
My dad worked at IBM for exactly 25 years. The very day he went in for his 25th anniversary, they gave him a catalog and said he could choose any item he wanted for his quarter-century of employment, and then told him he was laid off and to clear out his office.

"NEVER" is a HUGE word!

New car purchase is no longer a want , too expensive. Cars prices have ballooned .
So you have free public transportation where you live?
@Chowda41 buying a car was never a want. It is a need. Business always expects you to have “reliable” transportation.
@Chowda41 sure bud we believe you 😂
Bidenomics.
Even though old cars are expensive too.
Real life is that companies are a business not your friend.
Unfortunately, companies don't give people a heads up anymore if they're going to soon be laid off. They expect a two week notice if you quit, but won't even let you know you no longer have a job until you drive to work and are unable to clock in. Total bs.
This behaviour is called having your cake and eating it, as they fear the employees will start stealing everything they can get their hands on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just quite most the time n don't give a notice, one reason I do this is because the other employes are mean to you n treat you bad your last 2 weeks at some jobs cause you are quiting
Also at one job I gave a 2 week notice n they let me go like the next day, after the main boss told me I no longer have a job I told him what about my 2 weeks left, he told me that's up to companies if they want to keep you working those 2 weeks or let you go sooner, 1st time I heard that one
Or sometimes I just call them n say I got a emergency that came up n I am quiting n can no longer work there n I quite right then, if they ask what the emergency is I say I don't want to talk about it
People on jobs you can quite anytime n they can fire you anytime, even if you give a 2 week notice, so always have some money saved that can cover 1-2 months of expenses until you can get another job
On the other side of things when you quit a job usually the company doesn't come to your house and shoot it up, sabotage your equipment, or steal your computres databases. However, when people get fired / layoff then some employees do some crazy stuff. However, you should never find out after you drove to work unless its at the end of the day. Should be at the end of a monday so that you have the week to apply to other jobs and not on a Friday where you ruin someones weekend.
Couple weeks ago a recruiter connected me via LinkedIn and then phone invited me to interview for production manager role at Austin Texas. I couldn't attend to the event as I was already at my job. Now I realize I didn't Miss opportunity, I dodged a bullet
You missing that interview was a blessing in disguise

They fire the middle of the pack. The ones that are probably being paid a little better than they should be, but are not super critical to anything. They fire two middle of the pack workers and bring in a new guy that doesn't know he's doing double the work.
It's a very dick move on the companies part. The younger generation understands the game. They keep their resume updated and are always open to see what other jobs offer. The companies have no loyalty, so neither does the new generation of workers. Even raises don't keep up with what competitors are willing to pay a new hire. Every couple of years, move up or move on. There is no reward in sticking around.
You millennials and genz are just lazy back in my day we worked hard
I just retired. It’s never an easy thing to accept and people do themselves a disservice thinking any job is guaranteed for life.
Yep, you've gotta know that this could happen at any time, especially as an at-will employee. I saw the same thing on a video about Tyson's Chicken laying people off. People in Tennessee saying that they expected to retire from that job and an entire comments section saying, "OMG, that is so screwed up." They don't have an obligation to employ you for life. It's a company, not a charitable institution.
I will say that the way Tesla lays people off is pretty sackless. You find out you're fired because you can't clock in and then you get an e-mail later in the day (should've been sent the night before at least). I don't see how saying how you were fired would violate any NDA but I believe that Elon is enough of an a-hole to sic his lawyers on you and warn other companies to not hire you (a form of retaliation that is illegal but good luck ever proving it). Elon LOVES to flex on employees that can't do anything to him.

hope you invested in ROTH, 401, mutual funds. I was a hairdresser and never knew if I'd make $200 a day or $8 a day but saved up and invested.
I was also laid off after 26+ years back in September 2021 and now I found a job at a completely different industry as to what I was doing. I actually wanted to quit as management turned toxic and my colleagues told me to wait to get laid off as you will get a severance and I did for a little over a year. Now I heard from the grapevine that they made a mistake but couldn’t do anything and no one wants to work there anymore.

Most Americans don't want electric cars.
Exactly !
It’s the dumbest thing! I can see the backed up charging stations now.
Sorry to burst your sheltered bubbles, but eventually it'll overtake gas vehicles. And quicker than u think. Imagine 10 years ago - when you saw an electric vehicle, it was a rarity. And most of the times a Tesla. In 10 years the tech evolved to such an extent that some electric cars are now at comparable prices to regular cars.
But something tells me you guys can't process that or even have the brain capacity to imagine the next 10 years. It's ok - some always gets left behind. Or, if you're old and will be dead by the time the world becomes starved for gas, all the more power to you. :D
@@jyc313 Righttttt I guess that’s why China has literal electric car grave yards…. Gotta make them seem like they are catching on….bc they are not! If anything It will be FORCED on us just like social media was. My only question is what “perks” will be waved around to make it the new fad.

This is tru, but it's also the other way around. Employees only care about their paycheck. Your employer is nothing more than a job. We can't say a company is evil because they laid you off. You'd do the same if you had to. They're not in the business of loosing money.

Boomer days were much easier than now.
It’s sad how companies expect 2+ weeks notice, but for employees they don’t get 2 weeks notice.
Not only that they waste his time and fuel driving to work only to not allow him to clock in?
That’s shameful. It’s the equivalent to an employee just doing a no call no show and never coming back to work with no communication.
That is why workers need union.
@@tamhuyphan9842 I had a union at AT&T and the union was pretty useless for me on a small scale. Maybe for stuff like this they’d be better though.
Generally (and likely with this layoff) employees will receive at least 2-weeks pay but will NOT have to show up for working those two weeks. If you ask the employee would they rather keep coming in for 2 weeks and get paid or... would they rather take the severance pay and have free time to LOOK for new employment, which do you think that they would accept? Sometimes the story you hear doesn't include all of the information... Just say'n.
@@larryharvey5818 You may be right, but it seems like they would/should have mentioned that in the news stories.
And regardless of that, 2 weeks notice for an employer is enough time to find another employee but for an employee that is not nearly enough time to fill a large wage gap even if they are hired by another company within 1 day of getting laid off which most people won’t have opportunities lined up like that.
Most jobs pay bi-weekly, and at those jobs you are always 1 week behind on pay. So what ends up happening is the employee who get hired either gets paid for one week after working two weeks or has to work three weeks to get paid for their first two weeks of work. Basically what I’m saying is two weeks notice is fair fir employers but for employees it’s definitely not fair. It doesn’t give them adequate time especially employees and it’s no fault of their own that they’re getting laid off. They’re not getting fired for being bad employees.
@@tamhuyphan9842union workers get laid off also.
This is why not having an emergency fund is an emergency. Your employer does not care about you. Make the sacrifices now to save up a 3-6+ month emergency fund so you’re not scrambling to make ends meet later.

I left manufacturing years ago because of how volatile employment is in that sector.
Companies should have to provide the same 2 weeks notice to employees being laid off that they want the employees to provide. Layoffs are terrible and no one wants them to happen but those same people being laid off might be needed again one day. Treat them with kindness and respect and they might just re-join the company when things are going better.
No more Loyalty in today's work place! That's why you save your money, because this could happen at any moment!
EV's are not selling and most do not want them. Who has the funds for a $65k car ? You want an $800 per month auto payment?
And after 8 years you have to pay at least $20,000 for new batteries.

@@nickmora2544 1 just because they give an employee notice, doesn't mean the employee has to maintain the same permissions. the employee can be relegated to other tasks, or simply told they'll be paid for the next two weeks, but their official last day is coming. 2 most employees are not in a position to sabotage a company. a line worker at a tesla can't bring down the whole company. 3 employees who resign can also have an attitude of sabotage, so it has nothing to do with being given notice, but more so their character. 4 most employees like their employers and hope to be able to come back, especially if they've been there for years. just because you're laid off doesn't mean you're ineligible for rehire at a different position. 5 just like with 30 days notice to vacate after not paying rent, the tenant can try to break things, and he will be sued.

@@mushroom_hatter wrong, you can buy teslas in most countries. I see them everyday and I’m in the UK.

It's usually a blind carbon copy zoom call on a Monday morning. 5 minutes later, you're out.
If you play close enough attention to the very industry you rely on one could see it coming. Tesla dropped prices 4 times in the last 8 months. !!! What comes next people.
Yep. A lot of companies have done that. Come to work and find out it is your last day. Either the whole company is shutting down or they’re just letting you go.
Last year my job had a massive layoff. Some people were told the day before that the next day was their last day and other people were told on that day, it was their last day.
I hated to see some of the people go, but some of them I was glad they left. One of the executives was let go and I believe she’s involved in a crime but of course I can’t prove it. It was her possibly illegal activity that caused the massive layoffs because the company’s ratings went down, which was a death nail for the company. Also, because of the same person, the company was fined $2 million and had a class action lawsuit filed against us.
Two years ago, the company had over 100 employees. Now it’s around 30.
The company had been in business for over 40 years and this one group of people basically destroyed it and that one executive made things even worse. She killed it
I guess they had to clear room for that $56 billion compensation package for Musk. Would you rather have 700,000 workers making $80k, or Elon and his hair plugs?
The old days if you can work until you retire at a company have been long gone they used to be family-owned now they're a corporation in greedy
The employer doesn't Care! They are worried about the stock holders!
Not too many people are buying EVs! They cost too much, and there's no infrastructure! You do the math!!
no cars are selling.
Right....EV's are the solution to a problem that DOESN'T exist!
Don't forget the cost of battery replacement. Sheese, it's astronomical!
Tesla also eliminated the charging branch, staff, maintenance...
Then don’t put all ur hopes in a 9-5. Your last name is not on the articles of incorporation, employment is mostly always at will. Start planning for your financial independence while you work. No job lasts forever.
That's a ridiculous comment. Most people aren't independently wealthy.
Stop complaining about being let go. People aren’t buying your product.
