  • Gum disease, or periodontitis, is an infection of the soft tissue and bone that supports the teeth. Left untreated, it can lead to receding gums, tooth loss, and other serious health problems. In this video, Dr. Alina Krivitsky explains new non-surgical treatment options for reversing gum disease without surgery. She also discusses the use of antibiotics, laser therapy and other non-surgical treatments that can help restore oral health and improve a patient’s quality of life.

You're watching the Wellness Hour, news that makes you healthier. I'm Randy Alvarez. Today's topic new treatment options for people with a bacterial infection. Gum disease in their mouth. According to my first guest, she says no more bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, painful teeth, red puffy gums. With a new technique a new technology, you could reverse it. And with us we have Dr. Alina Krivitzki. Dr. Krivitzki, welcome to the program.
Thank you so much, Randy. It's a pleasure to be here. I've had you on the program talking about some other topics. Your husband on the show talking about dental implants. So as a periodontist, who's the typical patient that comes to you to treat their gum disease?
Sure, Randy. We have several types of patients. We have primarily patients that come in because their general dentist referred them to us, because they've been treating them for years and years, and they've lost control and they can no longer help them. They've been doing deep cleaning after deep cleaning, and their pockets or bone loss is continuing to increase, and they're sending them to us to help them with their situation.
Could you tell me about that deep cleaning for a moment? So if somebody is getting a deep cleaning, that's a clean that's under the gum line. Is that what it's designed for? Absolutely. A deep cleaning is a layman's term to go ahead and go underneath the gum line, especially for patients who are gum disease patients, because that distance for the gum disease patients in what we call pockets is basically the distance between the gum and the tooth. And as the teeth disattach from the bone and gums, basically this distance becomes longer and longer, becoming more difficult to clean.
So the gums kind of move away from the teeth? Absolutely. As the bone goes away as well. So the support system, because we periodontists are basically supporters, we treat the supporting system of the tooth. No matter how beautiful the tooth looks, if there is no great support or foundation, the tooth is not going to stay long in the mouth. Okay.
Can you help me give us a working definition? Like, what's an easy way for all of us to understand what is gum disease? So gum disease is actually an infectious disease, which is very not so much well known fact to most people. A lot of my patients that come in and talk to me about it before I even get to say hello, they tell me, I know, I know it's genetic. There's nothing I can do about it. That's the first thing I hear from about 75% of my patients.

I healed mine with coconut oil pulling and tea tree oil. I brushed my teeth with charcoal toothpaste with 3 drops of tea tree oil twice a day and also used tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil in water as a mouth wash a few times a day. It takes time but it does work. I live in the UK and can have my teeth done on the NHS when they told me what she is saying in video I looked into alternative treatment natural and found a load of different things on line I've found that what I've stated as worked for me.

Thank you for this, I also live in 🇬🇧 and it’s impossible to get dental treatment on the nhs in my area. How far had your gum disease progressed before you started oil pulling? Did you have gum recession / teeth looking longer? Black triangles among teeth? I am very interested in regenerating gums naturally if possible, because even though it seems like I effectively healed my gum infection (no more gum bleeding, swelling or bad breath) with deep cleanings, antibiotic treatment and more thorough oral hygiene routine, some of my gum receeded and I've been left with deep pockets around some teeth that I would love to heal with no invasive procedures.

@@estherotieno9709 interesting you mention sensodine toothpaste as I have been wondering if these so called preventive treatments are actually useless or might even be worsening the gum disease. I have started washing my mouth out with salt water rather than shop bought mouth rinse and I also purchased an electric plaque removal kit. It took a while to figure out the most effective way to clean my teeth but the bleeding has improved and so has sensitivity to cold food and drinks. I still haven’t managed to entirely remove a thin dark stain on the top of my lower front teeth; not sure if it’s from coffee or sugary drinks/liquid medication I was taking a while ago but these stains are stubborn. I’m told it’s not very noticeable but it bothers me a lot!! However the most important thing is that you can change and improve gum health as long as you continue with home remedies and catch it before it gets too bad and painful. I haven’t got the oil for oil pulling but it’s on my ‘to do’ list as everyone here seems to have benefited from this. Good luck and hope you succeed in caring for your teeth and gums 🙏🏻🤗

I suffer gum desease and this treatment is interesting. But, regular deep cleaning by a dentist is vital. However, what is creating this problem is your POOR DIET; Sugar, processed food which is full of sugar and fizzy drinks will kill you in the long term. Eat fresh food, occassionally fast and sleep well. I am sure my problems started with a stressful job. Educate yourself, it is all linked!!!!!

Unknowingly, we easily transmit this terrible disease to our pets. Sadly, i speak from experience. Before i had gum disease none of my many pets (cats &dogs) had any mouth issues.
Ever since, they ALL HAVE IT!
It's important to be VERY careful if sharing your food while infection is present, to avoid transmitting the bacteria. Animals suffer in pain, much more than we do with gum disease. Options of pain Management medicine for pets is limited, (compared to what's avail for us) expensive and they suffer long before we notice the signs. Usually a full mouth extraction becomes the only option...
But now, seeing this, i will definitely be speaking to my vet about it!

If I just take care of my lower jaw teeth that is fine, no need to waste money on trying to fix upper jaw teeth. It is all in genetics. He clenches a lot during tense times, thinking, even in sleep, that impacts more on the lower jaw tooth than upper jaw teeth because of the way his jaw moves. It is all in genetics.
