38 - Elevator Recall with Independent Flashing Hat Relays - Introduction to Fire Alarms

  • In this video I continue explaining elevator recall but show examples of how you would accomplish "Flashing Hat" when only 1 relay can be accepted by the elevator controller at a time, but the pit and machine room would have to send the car to different floors than the top of shaft smoke detector.

    So, in a normal operation if the elevator machine room is on the 1st floor the HAT trip would send the elevator to the floor above?

      Typically, yes. I have seen exceptions to that, depending on where the machine room is physically located. Ultimately it's not up to us as fire techs to determine that, we just have to be able to send the car where the elevator inspector wants it.

    Are the relays supposed too be N/O or N/C?

      That depends on the elevator equipment. Sometimes they want NO for primary and hat and closed for alternate. You'll have to communicate with the elevator guys for that answer.
