I have a real life experience that worked for me and has worked for all of my friends and relatives. Try to save 30 to 40% of your monthly income if not try for a job in a small city or a town where the rent and cost of living is cheap which will help to save 40 to 50% of the salary every month. Then invest every month to 30% of savings to Index Mutual funds - S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, Bluechip Mutual funds, another 30% savings to Tax saver Mutual Funds, Gold and Bond Mutual funds, 20% in collective smallcase stocks (for ex. 8 safe stocks in a basket like Apple, tesla, Ford, coca cola, Mc donalds, Pharma companies, Nestle, Banks (MasterCard Inc, Bank of America) and final 20% in FDs (to buy real estate plot in a small town after 8 to 10 years or use during emergency times). I am doing this for the past 22 years and i am still doing this and i never cared about recession or loosing a job, as i had been jobless for couple of months in 2008, 2010, 2015 and 2020 and had changed 7 jobs in 18 years. I've made 1.7+ million dollars in 2022 and from that day, i never cared about losing my job and i am still saving money for investments

I am a widowed retired senior citizen, financially secure(not rich), and in relatively good health.
1: Do not buy designer clothes
2: I spend about $10 on lottery tickets ONLY when the jackpot is ridiculously high.
3: I eat out at least 6 times per week. I have earned the right to do that.
4: I spend no more than $2,000 per year on travel costs.
5: Don't pay bank fees (overdrafts and ATM or cheque cashing fees )
    6: Currently I have a car note on a 2022 Honda HRV.
7: I own my home. No mortgage.
8: Pay off my one credit card monthly
9: I wash and style my own hair. Go to salon once per year.

    • @isettech

You spend $10 on the lottery when the chances are highest you will have to split the prize. Unfortunately many games are played with NOBODY winning. I'll take my dividends instead. Instead of paying $10 on tickets, bought $6 stocks in April 2020 when the price was really low. Price is now over 4 times what I paid for it, and it pays dividends of $2 per year. Yes, full cost back in 3 years and then keeps paying as I still own it. Value of my stocks is up by $40,000 last year. Unlike a dead lottery ticket, old stocks most often grow in value and many pay dividends. Currently investing in another stock recently crashed in value. Buy low. Shipping rates have dropped. Investing in shipping container transportation companies. A 1,000/month divided can buy a lot of shares. When buying low, odds are good they recover in better times. Remember to sell high. Sold out of tech stocks in the tech bubble. Example sold all of Intel in the bubble at $62.75. Now the price is under $30 and slowing rising. Instead of buying it back, it is near market value, so didn't buy it. Buying stocks on sale instead.
I paid cash for my last two cars. Bought them, saved (invested) instead of paying a car note. No car note. I do have a mortgage, but due tot the fixed rate which is now below the inflation rate, invested in the market for higher returns. see above. 33% returns while holding a 4% mortgage is no reason to pay off the mortgage. Nice if you can do both, but soon the investment dividends can pay the mortgage for me. Compounding the investment growth at a higher rate instead of paying off the compound mortgage rate sooner. It was my decision because it made sense.

If you must have a pet, adopt one from shelters and don’t pay $$$ to pet stores
Don’t buy multiple crappy presents for loved ones. Form a birthday or christmas present circle with family members or friends in common, where each person gets to buy one good present for just one person. Cheaper and presents are better quality
Write your grocery list and stick to it when shopping. Don’t get suckered into impulse purchases.
Invest in a bag of russet potatoes for $4, a liter of cooking oil for $5, and in one shot, see how much french fries you can make. You’ll get a new perspective on ROI and value of fast food.
Learn something you can DIY and save $$$. Oil change, paint your house, replace toilet, unclog plumbing. RUclips is also a classroom and not just entertainment.
Don’t buy content you can get free or cheaper. Think Library, not bookstore.

We worked hard and long hours for a big house with a pool etc. but soon realized we NEVER used our pool because we were always exhausted and never enjoyed our big house because we were always working. We cashed out, downsized, retired and started living more simply. Life is so much better now. Freedom and options the real luxury of life. And that was 9yrs ago.
