VSCode is not the choice for C 😂 No OOP with over 4k lines in one file and no true version control. Dan is not the man if you want software development. Probably a lot of issues are coming from the hacky implementation he has.

Really appreciate you guys breaking down, in detail, the process of getting the dct communication working. After almost a decade of fake promises about dct s85s, this is great to see. One question I have about this can communication translation method, is there not an inefficiency introduced because the mss65 ECU still thinks it's talking to a smg3 so it's working within the confines of what it thinks the SMG is capable of and potentially not maximizing the capabilities of the dct which would be quite different from the SMG? Made up example, which may or may not be true... if the dct can respond to a downshift much faster than the SMG, can this be taken advantage of via this method? Possible the opposite is also true, for example, I believe it's the dct that requests a torque level from the mss65. In the video, I noticed that there's a significant lag when a downshift is requested via the paddle. I'm wondering what's introducing this lag.
Its amazing to hear something big is gonna come for the S85 enthusiast. 6 speeds are pretty much unatainable and Im not mad at DCT swapping over 6-Speed swapping

Nice to see the transparency about the work needed, dispelling the myths that it all happens by magic.. CAN bridges and translators are the future, as you say, OE quality calibration is leagues more complicated and detailed than most aftermarket stuff. Look at the success of CANtcu to see the efficacy of this method. I’m interested, I’ve got an E60 M5 and DCT would be nice..
I use CANTCU matched between a B58 and F-DCT trans and it so interesting what the development of getting the DCT, DME and DSC to be in sync. Keep up the good work.
I’d love to do a similar conversion to a 2010 Maserati QP GTS…… very similar concept because both cars have phenomenal engines aurally…… the current gearbox is a very highly tuned ZF6 …… with 8 gears and instant changes the car would be faster, more efficient and more of a aural thrill…..

Seems like driving normally it might not mess with the ecu as much but once he aggressively downshifts and try’s to push the car it messes it up. Kind of like when you downshift really fast when coming to a stop the car boggs down but doesn’t throw a code. Very informative video if you understand what he is saying!!!
Can Dan do the same with the Audi RS gearboxes? I'd be interested in a swap of a 6hp to 8hp gearbox on an RS6 C6 but never got around to it merely for the communication and calibration issues. How can I get in touch with Dan?

This evolve solution as it stands IS NOT WORKING, and it’s NOT OEM, there is a CAN controller INTERCEPTING messages and the TCU has NOT got a clue wtf it is doing. If I was Imran, I would genuinely be embarrassed to have released this video, this car does NOT function correctly in any way. I drove 2500 miles NON STOP in 3 days and then finished off with a trackday….WHICH IS DOCUMENTED. Get back in your box little boy.
You can help by telling them that they NEED to embed the DKG DRIVERS into the MSS65 from the MSS60 so that they DME actually knows HOW to speak to the TCU Mr Bmw code man. Give your friends a helping hand.
@@ratdognunoyou’re missing the point here, they’re trying to create a solution that can be sold to customers. You can’t just reverse engineer BMWs code and start distributing that for money, I’m pretty sure it’s not open source.

Cool, but dct's are junk. The ZF 8 speed crushed it. That's why BMW dropped the DCT entirely and all of a sudden BMWs started running 8s and 7s in the 1/4 mile instead of blowing up trying for low 10s and 9s. A better conversion would be the manual. Those are super rare in the e63 and there is actually demand for it. Love what you're doing. This isn't hate. Just saying. The manual is where the money is. That would actualy increase the value of those. Where else you getting a v10 like that with a stick. Think about it
@@a-em8bp a ZF8 on a stage 3 XHP tune shifts instantly with zero delay and as fast or even faster than a DCT. It’s absolutely on the same level and better even.
@RenR9yeah i agree stick is cooler but I don't think you can get away with running a 8hp at 8200rpm reliably. All the engines bolted to them rev out to around 7000 or less

The DCT runs in a lot of applications without any cooler. I think you might be getting excessive slip if the temps are high.

ZF8 is not on the same level as the DCT. It's good for what it is, but it shifts slower and has no theatre. That's why exotics still only use the DCT.

@RenR9 log the timing during a shift, it's not even close. DCT has a 30ms timing pull, even xHP stage 3 is 300ms.
