This year I did the complete fork maintenance (seals, progressive springs, bushings, oil) - if my steering head bearings are due I will watch this video again for my mental preparation :) Thanks for this.
I've watched it a few times before. Although I find it entertaining sometimes, it doesn't really give a viable solution a lot of the time, besides digging at others and their approach to something. This worked for me and although its not ideal, it saved me 100's buying all specific tools or getting done in a shop
@@SamVBikes >besides digging at others and their approach to something. That's the best part, lol. And it's not like the specific tool will become useless afterwards. Also if you're in a pinch he showed how to do it with a dremel, seemed pretty viable.
You seem to be making all the videos i need to for my 30k miles service which is coming soon, very helpfull indeed. Since you are quite inclined in servicing your bike yourself like me i would advice to upgrade the front suspension springs ( used Tec Springs ) and a heavier oil for the forks. The difference is phenomenal and takes away all the front diving of the MT07s soft front end giving you a much better feeling of the front suspension. Maybe in the future i will upgrade my rear shock as well to fix once and for all our Tracer`s achilles heel. Keep it up! :D
Haha you seem to be another me! Already done the front suspension haha! Great minds think alike! I used progressive Hyperpro springs and heavier oil. Did this before I started making videos otherwise it would have been a fantastic video to film! Looking into replacement for the rear shock too so will definitely get that on camera if l/when I do! Please let me know if there are any other videos you want to see! Happy to make them!
@@SamVBikes Hahaha thats what i thought as well. You even have the same seat on wheels like me and other garage tools... Looking on my servicing schedule head n wheel bearings check and linkage check/greasing is to be done soon at 24k miles
Haha! Great choice in bikes too!! I believe valve clearances are at 24k too, I got those done at a dealer because I wasn't brave enough at the time! I'm due my annual service which isn't far off the 36k too so will lump it all into one. I think im due to do the swingarm bearing too
One of the best & most informative steering head bearing vids Ive come across Good job man👏🏼 Gonna have to replace my bent bottom yoke on my 07 soon.. Glad I came across your vid👍🏼
Nice one. Just a tip, insulated VDE screwdrivers like the Wera one you used, are the least strong for any kind of job other than electrical stuff. Get a set of good impact head screwdrivers, you'll love them, they're not that expensive and they're made for smacking.
At the time I couldn't find anywhere that had them in stock. Plus they were 50% more cost from the only place I could find.. so just did a stock replacement
Was it possible to punch out the upper bearing race like the lower one? There are no cut outs and only a tiny edge for contact. I am replacing my steering head bearing right now step by step and this will be my next step. I have ordered a cheap special tool for this, but I doubt it will fit inside the tiny gap :/
@@SamVBikes I did it, everything is reassembled and works good. I think an internal extractor is a good investment. With that special tool the upper race was out within one minute. I ordered a "precision internal extractor" of the company Nexus in size 51-6A. No advertisement, but it worked perfect an was under 50€
I normally hunt around online on places like WeMoto, Fowlers Parts etc. They are really good with quick delivery. I couldn't find a good one either, there are a few service manuals online bit nothing too detailed which is why I ended up on YT trying to find someone doing them!
I didn't have a decent jack for the job at the time, so I strapped the back of the bike down to an anchor point (basically pulling the back of the bike down) then supported under the Sump guard. I had a centre stand on my bike so it was much easier. You can buy Paddock stands which lift from the frame. Hope that helps

No problem! I was a little worried about trying it but it was pretty simple! You've done the suspension so you'll smash it easily! Thanks for watching
Did the bike come with those shit tyres on, or is that your fault?
You should link him your vid tho.
Very much my doing. Wanted to use the bike for some gravel tracks and green lanes so was trying a few options. Not blown away by them though
@@SamVBikes Check out Matt's channel, I'm not even a bike guy but I enjoy it but you'll probably get a lot more out of it.

You are getting a good selection of really helpful videos with interesting rides too
I’ve watched a lot of steering bearing videos and this is by far the best. Incredible job. Thank you.
That's quite the accolade! Thank you! 🙌🏼

Thank you! I ended up buying myself a set, along with some drifts too not long after doing this vid! Can never say no to more tools haha
What size is that castle socket?
Thank for all the info mate, what is the name of that bearing tool?
No problem. Which tool were you after? You can buy bearing pullers and a bearing seating tool which are good
@@SamVBikes the one for the bearing nut 🤜

This one! Steerer stem nut socket! That one is for mt07/tracer 700
Nice video man, great sound too, great work 👍
Thank you!
Why didnt you upgrade to tapered needle bearings?
At the time I couldn't find anywhere that had them in stock. Plus they were 50% more cost from the only place I could find.. so just did a stock replacement
Do you have a link for the top yoke nut tool?
Should be in the description if I remember right!
@@SamVBikes it was indeed! Thanks so much! I'll be doing my bearings soon! 😄
Haha no problem! Good luck
Hey Mate I just did it on my FZ 07, thanks a lot for the tips!
tried to tag you in the video, but couldn’t find you in instagram
No problem bud! Glad you sorted it!

I had to order a tool for it too. It wouldn't come out the same way so used a bearing puller type tool

Amazing!! Nice work mate! It's such a good feeling when you get it to work. It's so much easier with the right tool!
Can we get a link for that tool to break loose the steering stem.
In the description for you!

which jack did you use to do this job? I need to tackle this on my MT03 2017
