  • A dead doug fir, about 90' tall but over 36" DBH (short but fat) that had to come down. The tree was on a slope and had to be felled between the artificial stream and the stairs to the beach. No real limb weight and a light top, so the Maasdam Rope Puller was used to to pull it over along with wedges to send it onto the beach. The log was bucked off the slope and rolled across the driftwood covered steps to protect them. Saw is a 661 36"

All my life I have wanted to be first at something, I thought it would never happen.
    Nice falling job.

Hey matey, I've just bought myself a puller too, what length of rope should I be looking to get? The only suitable option for rope type here in Australia is 1/2 New England Multiline, just not sure how much I should get!

Ropes get beat up pulling trees and are considered disposable. The Maasdam puller is made for 1/2" 3-strand and I have 50', 100' and 200' lengths in the truck depending on how far the pull tree happens to be from the anchor. So it just depends on how high you are setting the lines and the space you have to work with.

I generally use a mix of 5.5", 8" and 12". That covers 99% of the trees I cut.
