I thought RUclips somehow slowed the video down while I was writing my comment/thoughts. But the weird slomo sound made me stop and I kinda tried to figure out what had happened and found out it was nothing to worry about.😅
Every single word said in this video and shown has happened to me with my stairwell, give or take the same height 14 to 16 ft I guess. But I did have to put pressure on the bumpy concrete wall to get and keep the paint on there. Oh and my stairwell wall bakes in the sun, it's a southern wall of my house, has to use extender rods (curtain rods, cuz we don't have cool extender rods here in our country, lol) but to tell you the truth, matching up those lines and smudging them together took the life out of me. I've done one coat so far, didn't have the courage to get the second coat on. But I am planning to complete it now. Great information, thanks for the education. Without fail I add conditioner to paint when spraying custom builds and woodwork. It had never crossed my mind to add it to emulsion paint for walls. Excellent tip, Spencer. This will REALLY help out on ceilings too.
Graco has a roller feed system accessory that attaches to a paint sprayer and uses the sprayer pressure to feed paint to a special roller cover which has holes in it. When triggering the sprayer handle as you would with spraying, it dispenses paint to the roller and allow you to have a continuous flow. It does take some getting used to and you would need several of the appropriate extensions to get 18’ from the floor, but it does work well especially for speed when doing multiple rooms of the same color (in a production type setting) or when the surface is highly irregular such as with block, stone, brick, etc and you need dense coverage. In this instance you could apply paint to the rate desired and thus reduce running the roller dry or having to reload when it’s to a slight detriment. The roller covers for the Graco have dozens of holes in the cover tube allowing it to flow outwardly onto the nap. You can over dispense so there’s a slight learning curve.
Got a question. when installing a peel and stick wallpaper for a customer but the customer doesnt know if the wall was painted with low or zero voc paint. do you have to wash their wall with 70% alcohol so that it can prevent the wallpaper from falling off over time or its best to repaint with a primer?
Thanks for the great paint tips! I feel like as an amateur I should be adding extender to all paints just to compensate for my slowness. I was wondering, could you have gotten the same result by just painting a matte clearcoat over the semigloss? Or would the old roller lines still show through?
