  • A lecture by Chilean architect Smiljan Radić, held at the Days of Oris 15.
    Smiljan Radić was born in Santiago in 1965. Graduating in architecture from Universidad Católica de Chile, he subsequently studied at Instituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. After winning first prize at the International Competition Platía Eleftería (Heraklion, Crete), he worked on the development and realisation of a project in Greece in association with architects Nicolas Skutelis and Flavio Zanon. In 2000, he won the competition for the project Barrio Cívico de Concepción (currently under construction) and consequently received the Best National Architect Under 35 award by the Chilean Architects Association in 2001.
    In addition to Chile, his buildings were carried out in Japan, Austria and the United Kingdom, and in 2020 in Croatia. He has won numerous international architectural competitions. He participated in international exhibitions in Tokyo (2010, 2016), Hiroshima (2012), Venice (2010, 2018), Zagreb (2015), New York (2018). His project archive for House for the Poem of the Right Angle is part of the Department of Architecture and Design’s permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York. At the invitation of a special jury, he performed the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London in 2014, which has been hailed as “the most unusual structure Kensington Gardens has ever seen”.
    He received numerous awards and recognitions for his projects and performances - the Association of Architects of Chile selected him as the best architect under the age of 35 (2001); In 2008, he received the Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard Award (2008); he was appointed honorary member of the American Institute of Architects in the USA (2009); received best career award (2013) and Best Chilean Building Award (Universidad Mayor de Chile, 2015); The Oris Awards (Croatia, 2015) and the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize (The American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, 2018); became Designer of the Year on MADE (Sao Paolo, Brazil, 2019); he received the Antoninio Attolini Lack Award (Univesidad de Anahuac, Mexico, 2019).
