    In Trinidad as a kid we stayed at a beach house, around midnight I snuck down because I seen a big web in the top corner of a room. Of course a big ass T comes down the wall, I scream, everyone wakes up, uncles start drinking and aunties takes us all home.... My memory of the Chevron in real life. It was 30years ago and I remember every movement of it still. Beautiful

    I feel so lucky. I picked a mature female up and she is very very docile. The day I got her home and re housed she was half way on my hand. I froze. She was very trusting. I'll assume she was handled often throughout it's younger years.

    You are, by far, my favorite invertebrate keeper on RUclips. The way you work with your animals is absolutely wonderful and how we should all strive for in keeping. I love how you don't purposely aggrevate your spiders so they'll display a threat pose for the likes, I love how gentle you are in your movements and speech, I just love how calm and careful you are with them. The information you put out as well is incredibly appreciated. You're the man Dave 🥂

    Seeing all those spiderlings running every which way, is the stuff nightmares are made of. Yes I'm an arachnaphobe, but trying so hard to get over it by watching videos like yours that actually teach about these "beasties".

      it's gotten a tiny bit better for me through help of these videos...but i know...i am and will not be ready for a real life encounter. I once nearly ran into one lowering herself on her rope with my face! Happened in India in the Himalaya...a tenth of a second longer, i walked into our room and looked behind a friend who went over to his side of the room, i kept walking, then turned my head...and there she was. Huge, black and centimeters from my face! She then proceeded downwards and .....under my bed. We then tried to get her to go into the adjacent room, which had been empty the past few days and up until that morning..but when we opened this wing type door, a new neighbour said hello and we had to get her out of the frame and back into our room...she went back under my bed...i never looked over my shoulder as often as that evening....later, after we smoked some lovely, local Hashish, i came to and guess what....she now sat about 30cm above my friends head, who was sitting, laying on his bed, leaning against the wall on the other side of the room! I wish i had a camera so bad that moment....when he woke up he told me some bad toothache he had had was gone now...which i attributed to her as a thanks for us not squishing her between those door wings earlier....hhahaaaa....
      Sorry Audrey, i know you did not ask for all that....i just thought, from on arachnophobe to another, a little bed time story...i am going to sleep now for real...hope you enjoyed and i hope you also live in a country, where these nightmares only exist in glass cages in flats like the one in this video...good night!

    Great video! I just got a P. cambridgei sling as an additional freebig when I got an A. purpurea sling. I was warned they were more zippy since they don't have the urticating hairs. I got a rundown of basic care, but I always like to see more videos. They seemed kind of plain, but now seeing more of them I appreciate their beauty! They were actually quite good when I moved them into a slightly larger enclosure- just a little dash right in! My A. purpurea had seemed calmer, but when moving them they went in the new container and then right back out again! We had a couple laps in the working tub before they could be coaxed back in. Little rascal, usually I don't have much trouble rehousing. This makes 7 tarantulas total for me- 3 slings and 3 juveniles I've raised from slings (and 1 I got as a juvenile.) I actually do more with jumping spiders, but I really enjoy the differences between the species.

    As someone who's been to Trinidad for almost 3 years, I only saw one confirmed tarantula indoors - I was 8 years old at the time and we ran out the house double time. The babysitter then picked it up by the leg, carried it outside and dropped it in the bush. Other spiders I saw that were large were true spiders but always in bedrooms. They'd come in through the holes in the houses over there due to ventilation from heat. I only encountered 2 of those over near 3 year period so although the island crawls with some very large species, they seemed more avoidant of humans than the spiders one finds in England, where I am now..

    I see you keep your arboreal spiders in fairly small enclosures. Is there a specific reason you don’t use a taller environment? I use the Exo mini tall (30x30x45) for mine just based on the idea that they’d seem happier the higher off the ground they thought they were. My Avicularia always build their webs at the very top back corner. Since I don’t have as many as you so space is available, does this seem okay?

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  3 года назад +2

      I dont believe the spiders worry how high up they are if that was the case then we would not be able to keep arboreal spiders becouse we could never offer enough hight , I believe as long as they can build a vertical hide then that is enough to keep them happy, I keep mine in 20x20x30 becouse I found it easier to breed them in these enclosure for most species but my pokies do better in the 45 high as the males need more room to manoeuvre.

    Hi there, how did you keep your female after the pairing? These are pretty hard to get where I'm from and I was fortunate enough to breed her last week and I want to make sure she drops, any advice?

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  4 года назад

      I just carried on with my normal husbandry , I gave her 5-6 good meals ,she webbed up within about 5 weeks , I just then sprayed her enclosure as normal once a week .

      I only left them in with her to see how long before natural dispersion would take place , they did share some of her kills at times.

    • @daveslittlebeasties

      Yes I believe so they can be very quick but set up right there pretty calm and make very good show spiders, the key is in the handling of them as with all spiders, most prove to be bad becouse of nervous keepers rushing , just take your time and they will respond favourably.👍

    My first T is a Trinidad chevron, I got them this last December and they're maybe about a year old and have recently been coming out of their burrow more. Before I got them I had been thinking about getting a GBB sling from a small pet center where I get my crickets. I got Mittens (named them like that because the orangie red toes make me think of little mittens and ist funny to have a spider, not a cat named Mittens) because a friend of my brother's friend got an adult female that came with an eggsack, so he had 70 slings and gave 50 of them to my brother's friend to help sell. Thus my brother got two slings for himself and got one for me for Christmas.
    Most of my pet experience comes from my family's pets 2 dogs and recently a cat, my 3 rabbits who have all left 2 to a rabbit virus and the other to health problems, I also look after my brother's bearded dragon sometimes and we have chickens too. My brother and father live with the dog, cat, beardy, 2 slings and the chickens, I see them fairly often. I felt very lonely last year after my rabbit passed away because it was just my mum and me then, I didn't want to get a new rabbit even when I was offered a baby from a family friend because I know I'd likely be moving out in a year or two and I wanted to be stable if I got a new rabbit. Mittens has reduced my loneliness greatly and has made me very happy. Mittens is moulting well and eating regularly unless in pre moult, as I am brand new to owning a tarantula I can say this species is a perfect starter for me.
    Sorry I don't know why I felt like saying this I know its long.
