An Ant War Broke Out After Adding Water Beasts into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

- Опубликовано: 9 май 2024
- In my giant cloud rainforest vivarium, I call Pantdora, an unexpected revival of an ant war broke out, after adding a team of aquatic creatures to the pond. I was shocked to discover the truth about relations between three existing ant colonies within the vivarium, and watched an intense showdown of ants take place. It opened my eyes to the chilling realities of invasive vs native animal wars that occur in ecosystems, as they compete for resources, food, and space. Hope you enjoy Part 8 of our Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

You know, I don't watch this channel regularly, I drop in every couple months and see what you're up to. Every time you've got some new, next level project and it's so cool. I still remember when you went to the rainforest and found a huntsman spider(who has since been successfully re-homed in my nightmares). Now look at you. You made your own rainforest.
A radical last ditch mitigation for the Black Crazy Ants. If they are getting out of control and start moving again, you could make of yourself a predator and grab and remove the queens as they trail to a new nest. The chances of this method allowing you to get them all would be almost nonexistent, and the reduced queens would result in lower colony numbers and potentially allow the native ants to compete on level ground with them.
True, AC is a part of the ecosystem just like everything else when it comes down to it, even if he makes his involvement gentle.
i was thinking about using a shop vac to suck them up. i know it works for bees, why not ants?
I +1 taking a harsh intervention approach on the Black Crazy Ants. I'm worried about the long term health of the ecosystem if they're allowed to grow unhindered, especially since the tank isn't as large as a whole real forest.
yeah, get a shop vac and suck as many up as possible so they don't dominate the whole ecosystem.
Someone mentioned above that a certain lizard eats ants.
Unless you can find a predator to specifically target the crazy ants and mostly ignore all the others, then your best bet is probably to just remove them somehow. At this rate they're just going to take over the entire place and you'll have none of the smaller insects left. The only bad thing about most predators you could add, is that they'll eat the other little bugs as well. You need something that would specialize in crazy ants specifically.
Agreed. It's only a matter of time before they kill the other ants. Overwhelm the larger creatures and kill the plants from below

Hola Mikey! Pantdora is absolutely incredible. We can all tell you've put a lot of love into this and care so deeply about what it means to have balance in an ecosystem. I'd like to clarify what you said about dart frogs. I've kept golden poison frogs in the past. In the wild, this is the species from Colombia known as the most poisonous creature on the planet. However in captivity, it along with other dart frogs are harmless unless you give them their exact diet in the wild. While they do get their poison from ants, the dart frogs wouldn't develop this poison from the black crazy ants. And the great thing about golden poison frogs is how vocal they are! Out of the dart frogs, they are the most vocal! So they're a great addition to any vivarium.
In the wild, these frogs are no joke! The golden poison frog produces deadly alkaloid batrachotoxins in their skin glands as a defense against predators. A single frog has enough for ten humans or 20,000 mice. Golden poison frogs are a very important frog to the local indigenous cultures, such as the Emberá and Cofán people in southern Colombia. The frog is the main source of the poison in the darts used by the natives to hunt. The Emberá people carefully expose the frog to the heat of a fire, and the frog exudes small amounts of poisonous fluid. The tips of arrows and darts are soaked in the fluid, and remain deadly for two years or longer.
Wow!!!
@@AntsCanada also in captivity you are more than likely more harmful to dart frogs than they are to you, they can breathe through there skin and the oils on your hands can clog their pores and hurt their breathing so its always best to avoid holding them at all unless absolutely necessary but they are great pets I still have mine and its one of the coolest pets I've ever owned.

Hi huge fan I love this series@@AntsCanada
I have built several no maintenance tanks. I would put some more plants in your pond. More fast growing plants that do well with roots submerged but the foliage grows outside the water. Pothos, Philodendron or Peace Lilly seem to work well. But many other plants like mint or lettuce can also do very well. The duck weed and other similar floating plants also do really well so good to see you put that in. Maybe once your vines send more roots into the water it will be enough. To many animals in the water can quickly overcome the plants uptake of nutrients. If your not trimming plants regularly from the pond, it's probably not enough growth to remove all nutrients. If your not doing water changes, you want to keep an eye on nitrates to make sure the plants are keeping up. A bog filter can work really well and this setup is perfect for a bog filter so you might want to look into that. Anubias grow WAY to slow to help remove nitrates, they look good but really don't do much for nitrate removal. Submerged plants in general don't do much at all.
I agree some pothos growing out of it would be great for the environment and look super jungle-y
I believe he mentioned near the beginning that the pond waterfall runs from a filtered pump through a bio filter.
i would love to see a great diving beetle added into Pantdora, they’re my favorite insect!!

I was a little apprehensive of this giant project, particularly the idea of ants fighting each other. You've alleviated all of that with how complete an ecosystem you are building. It's just absolutely beautiful! I love learning about all the new creatures and plants and substrates and environmental features! Thanks so much for posting these videos and sharing what must be such a dearly held interest and hobby (is hobby too small of a word for the level of commitment you have to these tiny creatures?) with all of us! Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you! Ant love forever! ❤️🐜🙏
I would add a variety of plants to the small pond. Anubias filter directly from the water, but you’ll still need plants that will draw nutrients from the substrate. Dwarf water lilies could work; once they get roots in the substrate, they rapidly grow. Cryptocorynes are also pretty good, but they’re slow growers. Sword plants will send out runners and spread pretty fast.. sometimes. I’m not sure what they’re actually called, but what’s sometimes referred to as betta bulbs are pretty prolific
u could always add some spider plants...they grow anywhere even under water as i had them in one of my tanks and they are pretty incredible cleaners! easy to maintain and u can pull them out when they get larger to put in some small ones again=) if u make a separate tank for filtering u could use spider plants to filter that water too!
I admire him a lot his dedication to not only just RUclips but to be ripped as hell is just inspiring, keep doing what you’re doing man

This vivarium has reached a point where the lore and storyline will be infinite and never ending. It’s a marvel what nature is, this rainforest can theoretically exist for the rest of time with proper care. The ecosystem will be so vast and rich with so many different types of creatures as more prey insects reproduce and predators multiply. It’s been a treat to witness this tank evolve from the beginning, it sheds so much light on nature that we can see. We walk around in our day to day lives almost always forgetting that outside of human life, there is a world where nature is happening all around us. Being able to see a small slice of that reality in this enclosure is wonderful and incredibly eye opening. You not only have an incredible gift, you also are one to anyone lucky enough to stumble across your channel. You, sir, have earned yourself another loyal subscriber. I'm sure I'll be going back through your history, and binge watching for the next several days. Your talent makes my little creations look like child's play.
Thanks for watching!🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
In my country in the tropical region in regards to maintaining balance can be tricky .

Ty! ❤️🐜🙏
ants canada is the creator of worlds and saves them mr hillbilly is the creator and destroyer of worlds
@@sampadaraitamang6579do you say that’s bad or good?
This is as fascinating as watching a well-narrated nature documentary or more so! I'd never have thought I'd be as interested in the lives of bugs and small reptiles and amphibians as I am in learning about the behaviours of larger wild animals and ocean creatures.
You truly make it all so fascinating with your passion and master crafting of this environment and your videos! Thank you for blessing us with this!
i like your bit about water being the glue that connects all of life.
the way your channel evolved and you as well, its amazing. You look as fit as your beautiful creatures!
It's crazy how far ants Canada has come. From humble beginnings to the amazingly beautiful ant house
Everything about this channel is next level. The builds, the lighting, the story telling and the camera work!
Wow... just found this channel and clicked out of curiosity. Im definitely subbing to this channel. But one question though..
How do you find your ratios of one animal to to others, and one plant to the others to have a finely tuned ecosystem that isn't too heavy in one species causing an ecoimbalance?
That acrobat ant is a menace to society
Why is this the best nature show on the entire internet and I don't even like ants 😂 Seriously tho I'm so invested in the Pantdora series, the seriously the most amazing vivarium, the storytelling is captivating to put it lightly, and the video production quality is superb. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
❤️🙏🐜
The only logical course of action I can see is for you to remove the stump as safely and efficiently as you can. I had to deal with fire ants in Mississippi. Colonies that are experts at thriving are almost impossible to contain. Don’t let the black crazy ants take over your enclosure! 🙌🏻 Awesome job!!
Yeah remove the stump. And get rid of the fire ants and the black crazy ants and replace it with something else or clear the stump completely and start over,
Noooo! I love that stump. Plus it was SO heavy and hard to move in there. I also fear the bca have satellite nests all around the vivarium with egg-laying queens. 😭
@@AntsCanada I'm on the side that says let the black crazy ants be as they are. If they're thriving, let them thrive, simple as that. They're on of my favorite parts to follow. Such a big colony
The stump is totally awesome, and no doubt was the vector for many unintended species. If you don't want the unintended flora and fauna, you could freeze it before introduction, or re-introduction.
@@JHSullivanIII that is a really good idea lol. Wouldn’t have thought of that myself I don’t think. And no I’m not being sarcastic
Dude...just the planning behind the events and everything is insane. I'm shocked in a great way. The effort is impressive and I hope it continues to pay off.
Thanks a ton!
I really love that you added to the waters of Pandora. Kind of wish the waterways were larger in this setup.
As a reef keeper, which is another form of setting up an enclosed ecosystem, I can't wait to see Pantdora a year from now.
Edit: Have you considered a refugium for this set-up? If you don't know what a refugium is, look into the reef keeping hobby. But it's basically a separate tank full of plants and critters so you can increase the amount of water in your system and keep the same display size. Plus you have a safe place for breeding fish and such to have babies. Plus the more water you have the more stable your parameters remain, while allowing you to have more filtering plants and algae without cluttering your main display. I use it to complete the ecosystem in my reefs. Copapods breed down there and constantly provide clean up crew and food for my corals and fish. Also, you can remove greedy crabs from your prized animals, while still allowing them to help keep dead animals from decomposing and destroying your water quality. As a freshwater planted aquarist, I think you understand how important stable parameters are.
I love watching these especially when the RUclips algorithm is so trash now a days, keep it up AntsCanads!
Glad you enjoy it! Ant love forever! ❤️🙏🐜
That transition along with the music explaining what the ants had planned was so epic @ 5:55 ... i know im weird
This reminds me of times i used to watch nature documentaries with my dad as a kid, youve got somethin unique here! this has brought me a lot of joy
Thanks for watching!🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
