A great way to start the year! I'm a big fan of the opera singers! Leonard Warren was a leading baritone at the Metropolitan Opera, particularly known for his roles in Verdi's operas and his powerful voice. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 48 while singing on stage. In this video, he is performing a piece from Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi.
Leonard Warren was one of the greatist baritones of Golden age of Italian Opera in mold of greats like Tito Gobbi, Robert Merrill, Ettore Bastianini, Giuseppe Tadei, Giuseppe Valdengo.... Warren's voice has specific warmth and his expression was always very touching and amazingly beautiful. His untimely departure was ireparable loss for the musical world. I'm fortunate to have many of his great recordings and I'm returning to this recordings very often and it always give me tge greates enjoyment and it brings back warm memories from my childhood when I started learning and loving opera
The other barotones you list were successors to Warren's legacy. His death created a void that took several to fill: Merrill, Guerrero, MacNeil and a few others took over his roles. Warren was a law unto himself. No one ever Sounded remotely like him before or since. .
How exciting to see and hear the great baritone of L Warren. This belies what some have said about his acting being wooden. He has great passion in this role as well as a tremendous and gorgeous voice.
Bravo!! 👏👏👏 I don't understand what's being sung, but I feel sorry for the character. 🙂 And very nice job with the set, costumes, makeup, and hairstyling.
Happy new year! Can you please post the mamas and the Papas singing dedicated to the one I love? They performed it on the Ed Sullivan show, but it looks like the video didn’t make it to RUclips. Thanks.
This is a really great voice -among other things she coached her Greek compatriot Maria Callas during the war and was choral director of the Athens opera.

Once upon a time when gods sang on the planet....Singing like this is gone and it ain't ever coming back....
Making gods of men of bygone eras because you’ll soon be gone, too. A sentiment as old as culture, and recognized for what it is since then as well.
@pookz3067 Is thus a parody account or are you just a clown? 😅😅😅
Not true, they just don’t get hired because they don’t have a “name”

This is a full generation after the golden age of baritones.

Beautifully stated! Thank you from California 🙌🏿
Bravo! Leonard Warren was an excellent Rigoletto. Fantastic to see him in this role for the first time.
This is the only video I've ever seen with Warren in costume . Gives an idea of how great he must have been live. One of his greatest roles.
There is a prologue "Si puo" from Pagliacci.
Beginning the new year with more opera. 🙂
Bravo! Thanks for sharing.
Have a wonderful 2024 everyone 🎉🎉🎉🎉!
One of the immortals. Supposedly he could vocalize easily to a high C while still sounding like a baritone. I’ve always loved his warm, rounded tone.
It was a time when opera was still mainstream.

Otro gran Rigoleto desenterrado del pasado! Gracias.
1950 on Toast of The Town😀👍🏿🎊🎆🎉🥂
That is good 👍 👌 ❤
This is beyond description......
Downloading this moment of greatness.

They kidnap his daughter.
Beauty, emotion and talent transcends language....
From Verdi's opera Rigoletto. The recording on Deutsche Grammophon, conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini, is excellent.
MARVELOUS BARITONE!!! 🕊️🙏🎶
My favorite Rigoletto
Where’s the guy that spins the plates? An act filled with tension and joy. Now that says New Year..
He was posted on this channel a couple of years ago. Look up Eric Brenn on Ed Sullivan and you can watch his act.
❤❤❤❤
First time I see him performing on stage.
👏👏👏👏🎉

Baritono de baritonos, Univo.

"among other things she coached her Greek compatriot Maria Callas"? I wonder who?
I've heard him live many time. He's really much better than this. This is 'not' a good example of Warren.
Yes, his singing was much better than displayed here
