- Spring 2024 startup and test of the Waykar PD160B dehumidifiers. This is the second cooling season these units are going through, so far they are both still working properly. These may be the only modern dehumidifiers worth buying, they still utilize R-134 refrigerant and a linear compressor, which is very similar to a reciprocating compressor. The dehumidifying capacity is small, but the units are extremely quiet and work well for smaller areas upstairs. Not so much for very damp areas like a basement.
I'll use these for a few weeks while the weather is warm enough to not run the heat, but cool enough to not use the air-conditioners. I have obtained several vintage dehumidifiers since last summer, once I get around to cleaning and servicing those, they will replace these for regular duty. - Наука
I am almost certain these aren't using a linear compressor. Linear compressors, from what I understand, use an inverter to run and I don't recall seeing an inverter board in these. I believe these are small reciprocating compressors, they act and sound like reciprocating compressors. I have looked up the compressor by model and it comes back with a standard electrical hookup with a start relay and overload. It also shows it as having a standard induction motor, and linear compressors don't use an induction motor.
Yea I looked that up it looks LG makes linear compressors and that’s it at least from I’ve seen. The compressors in these are regular refrigerator reciprocating compressors. That’s probably a good thing because LG is having failures with their crappy linear compressors.
@crazytr9463 That is what I came up with also.
I think you're correct. All the searching I've done doesn't provide any indication that it's a linear compressor either. I just went back and checked the original comment that said it was -- it doesn't seem like a particularly credible user. I thought there were multiple people that said it was linear, but I guess I was recalling incorrectly.
I've got one because of your recommendation and I love it. Thanks.
Something I'm not sure is dehumidifier mode on window and portable AC
The dry mode on portable AC units works Okay as long as you use constant draining as when you use the regular mode the fan adds humidity back as it airaites the water as the internal tank gets full
Thanks for letting me know.
The 'Dry' mode on air conditioners might as well be a scam. It does nothing different than the 'Cool' modes.
@@JordanU Yeah all the dry mode does is run the fan on low and locks out the temperature selection however it will shut down the compressor if the unit detects too much ice on the evaporator coils, the room will still be cooled down sometimes by a lot! where-as a traditional dehumidifier actually heats up the room by a noticeable amount.
pretty good dehumidifier system glad to see them working out for you i enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice testing of these things. We have had a good amount of rain the past few days where I would say we have had 8 inches within the past 10 days. Have not had any problem however with moisture yet as the warm days we have been getting have been dry with little moisture in the air. Likely will not last long. May have my dehumidifier up and running here before too long either. Those units are likely the best out of all dehumidifiers made today. With how little amperage these things pull, these are sure energy efficient. I honestly don’t know why other companies have not figured this out yet. Only time will tell.
The power draw is low--but it's not anything to write home about when compared to the performance. These are only 12 pint machines according to the current rating standard, probably the smallest real dehumidifier with an actual refrigeration system you can buy today.
I have a GE dehumidifier. Was bought brand new in 2016, works constantly throughout the summer. Has had ZERO issues, which is surprising for something modern.
I have a GE unit purchased in 2019, and I'm absolutely shocked it still runs.
@@JordanU Bought 2 GE new air conditioners last year. We'll see how long they last.
Good testing video on dehumidifiers love the start-up bro
Thanks
I like it
OK
At least its quiet, most of them are probbaly louder than this one is.
It is very quiet.
