    【Additional info】Name-Inscribed Suica card will be temporarily unavailable for purchase starting from August 2, 2023. If you want to get a new Suica for a while, we recommend getting either a Welcome Suica or a Mobile Suica.
    Welcome Suica can be purchased at dedicated vending machines located at Narita Airport and Haneda Airport, with a limit of one card per person. By the way, if you already have a Suica card (Name-Inscribed Suica or Blank Suica), you can continue using them :)

      We missed that you have to buy the Welcome Suica at the airports! There is another option if you are like us and don't have the right credit cards to add a balance to your phone's mobile Suica and are already away from the airports, Pasma Passport. You can get these at most of the NEX stations. They are supposed to cost 2000 yen for 1500 yen balance, but didn't charge us the set up 500 yen fee. You can add balance to it like a normal Suica/Pasmo card. We have used it on most of the lines and some stores already. Like Welcome Suica it is only good for 28 days with no refunds on any remaining balance.

      You obviously have no idea about the ticketing. JR is for LONG DISTANCE EG BULLET TRAIN, SUICA is for LOCAL METRO/BUS Services. Depending on your plans you may NEED both, it's NOT OVERKILL

      @@markylon actually he was 50% correct though.. he just didn't mention (or maybe didn't aware) the type of JR pass he bought.. If he said that he can use JR Pass for some metro (subway) stations, most likely he bought "JR Tokyo Wide Pass" as this pass apparently covered metro subway stations as well

    Don't buy the welcome one it's not worth it. Get the named one as the suica card has limits now (7/14/23)

    Is there a validity of the normal Suica Card?

    • @samurai_junjiro
      @samurai_junjiro  Год назад

      Nomal Suica doesn't have an expiration date. But if you have not used your Suica card for a certain period of time, it may be locked and you may not be able to pass through the ticket gate. In this case, you can ask a station attendant at the ticket gate to unlock it. If it is difficult to communicate in Japanese, you can use the Google Translate app to tell the station attendant that you cannot pass through the ticket gate :)

    Hi. For purchasing a named Suica card, do you need a Japanese phone number or will a foreign mobile number work also?

    • @samurai_junjiro
      @samurai_junjiro  Год назад +2

      I think foreign phone number should be fine. You may not receive a phone call if you lose your Suica card, but you need to input a phone number to purchase a named Suica, so you'll need to enter something.

    Why did they cancel no name cards? We have Pasmo but wanted to buy Suica on our next trip. I hope we can at least use our existing Pasmo. It makes it more difficult for tourist. 😢

      The issuance of new blank Suica and blank PASMO cards has been temporarily suspended due to the worldwide semiconductor shortage.
      If you have PASMO, there is no need to buy Suica. However, If you have not used your PASMO for a certain period of time, it may be locked and you may not be able to pass through the ticket gate. In this case, you can ask a station attendant at the ticket gate to unlock it. If it is difficult to communicate in Japanese, you can use the Google Translate app to tell the station attendant that you cannot pass through the ticket gate :)
      (According to online info, it seems that the lock will be released if you recharge the card, but I haven't tried it myself, so I'm not sure. Sorry)
