Willie Pep - Was an American professional boxer who held the World Featherweight championship twice between the years of 1942 and 1950. Pep boxed a total of 1,956 rounds in the 241 bouts during his 26-year career, a considerable number of rounds and bouts even for a fighter of his era. His final record was 229-11-1 with 65 knockouts. Pep, known for his speed, finesse and elusiveness, is considered to be one of the best fighters of the 20th century; after his 199th win, Kid Campeche described his experience by saying, "Fighting Willie Pep is like trying to stomp out a grass fire." Pep was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He was voted as the No. 1 featherweight of the 20th century by the Associated Press and ranked the No. 1 Featherweight of all time by the International Boxing Research Organization in 2005.

Highlights Knockouts Tribute

this guy was light years ahead of his time. he's even ahead of our time!
We are still behind him. We are still figuring him out.
Facts🤣
Nah look at the head movement and footwork of Lomachenko, Floyd Mayweather and other modern fighters
@@yalexander9432 still not better, and pep had also fought 15 rounds back in his day and had about 240 bouts.
@@Boxeo250 not better because its not on a black and white screen. Pep had amazing footwork but its very comparable to Lomachenko.
A man who's instinct and quickness were so legend he has enter the English locution for all time. The saying "Put some pep in your step." is in honor of him.
cool story but its been written since 1912 and came from mid 1800's
im guessing he used "PEP" as his moniker for his good movement?
MacStoker Guglielmo Papaleo was his full name.
Shortened and anglicized would come out something like Willy Pep.
@@GovernorRiffRaff try researching it
MacStoker what??
What happened is that he is so fast, that he broke the cosmic speed limit, breaking causality and universal laws, causing him to travel backwards through time. That is why "pep in your step" was used before his birth but is still about him.
gotta love his triple jab,and the ability to walk a foe into his hooks
Grand master of the game
One of the greatest boxers of all time P4P! I've got videos of Benny Leonard and Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson coming up soon so stay tuned.
haNZAgod what's the name of the song.
Boogie Belgique - All Over The World
Benny Leonard hell yeah. Thanks haNZA.
could you do joltin jeff chandler and tony canzoneri best hl vids on youtube
Already got both of them mate, just type their names in on my channel and they'll come up.
Mate, you've got a real talent for matching music to these edits.
It's obvious that you're not simply "choosing a cool song". There's a certain artistic merit in your selection. The thought you apply to it is recognised and appreciated.
Glad you like it mate, it is true a lot of thought does go into the soundtrack.
Funny, first thing I commented. I normally don't like musical overlays. Great vid
YEAH I AGREE 100% WITH YOU! Spread your TALENT!🙌
Ikr the music fits Willie perfect
I'm from CT., graduated from Middletown High, where Pep was born. My mother always told me that she and my grandfather used to watch the fights when she was growing up, and I never really saw the appeal. Well I'm an artist (painter in particular), and now I see this and I realize that boxing really can be an art form, just beautiful stuff. Man this guy took it to a whole different level what style and very effective too, really can't believe it!!
One of the most INFLUENTIAL fighters in boxing history you can still see his influence on the sport today looking at these highlights
i disagree...all boxers today just mimic Floyd mainly
Qyn Boswell Dominick cruz took inspiration from pep. MMA legend.
Loma
@@qynboswell6661and Floyd mimicked the shoulder roll of Benton & many other tactics from others. There’s nothing original in boxing simply slight variations & differences.
One of the best defensive boxers to ever grace the sweet science 🧬
poetry in motion and in the ring
I'm from Hartford Conn. Where Wille was from. I saw him walking down the street. He said to me how are you!! And I never met him in my life.Thats the kind of guy he was. A humble man. A regular guy even though he was not
Okay after watching these highlights I gotta say hes one of my fav fighters now, slick dude.
His defense was impregnable as Tyson would say.
Lol trueeee!
Mider-Span Man 😂😂😂
If only I could move like that, Pep was just amazing! thanks again!
One of my favorite fighters of all time. Beautiful to watch.
what a technician....just wow
amazing video of one of the greatest! the real old school hi-tech
His use of angles to defend and how he ALWAYS instinctively creates perfect space to keep opponents on the end of his pinpoint shots = Pure physical genius...UNMATCHED!!!!💯😎
you nailed it.
If someone needs to understand what "ring i.q." means, have a look on Pep's footage. Apart from the footwork, the feints, the head movement... One of the best ever, no doubt.
I just have one word for the amazing Willie Pep: Maestro
Your Chanel is so underrated you deserve way more subscribers, boxing fans such as myself truly enjoy and learn a lot from these videos of these old heros. Thank you so much for your hard work! And please keep it up 👍
I am a big boxing fan. Willie Pep remains one of my favourite boxers of all time. I love this music
Watching this puts a smile on my face Thank you for all the work you put into these highlights
I love this video .The music is so addictive to listen to.
I would loved to have seen him live, such a great and slick boxer. thanks again to hanza for this beautiful compilation.
Your highlight vids plus these jazzy songs are such a wonderful duo. Someone should make a music playlist with everything you’ve made.
No doubt, Ali studied Pep
Any boxer should study pep
@@ryneagheilim9782 Robinson did this to .
@@Xmj6919 robinson studied a lot of boxers before he even fought he'd watch how his opponent would fight and think of how to counter it and thats what he did.
And Willie Pastrano as well. They used to spar early in Ali's career, when he was still named Cassius Clay
Willie Pep highlights are a dime a dozen, but man you always take the cake with yours!
Another good one even loved the music selection.
Ask him for the name of the song and he'll tell you.
Beautiful movement.
That jab is killer
beautiful video, great work
Any sports man who makes it look easy is a master...
The greatest and underrated in boxing and combat sport in general
What an amazing athlete.
beautiful
Always great music
I can listen to this all day. Does anyone feel the same?
The golden era of boxing 😁. Fantastic!!!
greatest defensive fighter ever! top 10 - 5 atg no doubt
00:16 that seriously reminds me of Mike Tyson… The way Pep threw that punch and immediately followed with a bob and weave… Beautiful…
AWESOME channel
Footwork still dazzling
... TO THIS DAY
Pep was one of the most exciting to watch ever, along with Ali, Marciano, Ray Robinson, and Jack Dempsey. Top 5 fighters in action and excitement.
His movement is unlike anything else I've ever seen
Pep is top 5 P4P ever. My rankings:
#1 Harry Greb
#2 Ray Robinson
#3 Hank Armstrong
#4 Willie Pep
#5 Carlos Monzon
Mike Whitney that's a pretty good list!
Certainly my favourite
Hit and not be hit. Pep epitomizes boxing.
Thanks as always, haNZAgod
I feel (after watching all of his techniques relating to spacing and timing) - this was the greatest (all around) defensive boxer of all times. I'm not alone. He's oftentimes number one on experts lists. Hell, even Bruce Lee studied this guy's footwork extensively.
did he really???
Better late than never.
tss.ib.tv/featured-articles/14930-bruce-lee-in-boxing-trunks
Willie Pep must surely be the greatest defensive fighter of all time. Fewer boxers even punchers could overcome Peps defence and slick skills.
Man he was beautiful too watch !!
I can see why he was great
The best 126 lbser hands down in history
What a fighter, he has the rhythm of a slick black fighter, whilst still maintaining a high output.
+John Doe not on willy's level. He's nice but no willy pep
One of the best to ever grace the sweet science 🧬
The original smoove operator , don't sweat the technique !
My favorite old school boxer
Willie was waaaaayyyy ahead of his time.
So classy
Good music...keep it up.
my 2nd all time favorite. this man was as smooth as silk. 1:24 was beautiful
Normally dont like musical overlays. But great video man.
If you know, you know, if younger, CONGRATS, FOR the passion and study, and history of the sweet science, the squared circle, ain't nothing like the pugilist..Haney gonna point Loma, get ur $$$ in NOW!!!
Роскошный технарь!!!
The original butterfly that stung like a bee
You could go in a time machine and bring him back to our time and hed still be one of the best in the sport today
The best @126 lbs in history bar none
I like this guy
He floats like a butterfly
and stings like a bee...Did Ali study Pep? Right hand lead? Left jab. Moving side to side.
Pep even rhymed on an interview.
"He who hits and runs away,
Lives to fight another day..."
The artist
Pep actually holds GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR MOST BIYTS W122
You see, this is why I have Willie winning the fight on Feb. 31 against The Undertaker. He's one of the best southpaws I've seen this decade.
Willie is not southpaw
my eyes hurt from watchin his feet
43/5000
THE GREATEST BOXING FIGHTER OF ALL TIMES.
Does anyone have the link for the counterpunching boxing book (scanned) that was mentioned on one of the Willie Pep video's comment section?
I swear they should open up a university called Legendary Boxing University, and teach you the styles of Willie Pep, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Pernell Whitaker, and Floyd Mayweather.
Fucking amazing
I wrote a poem about him.
The only reason I don't rank Willie ahead of Robinson is because Sugar Ray had those two atomic bombs in each hand.
^Oh blah blah blah! Robinson fought the best in both his era and division, just like Mayweather! It doesn't matter what you say about them, they both are known as two of the greatest boxers of all time, and come up in almost every fight conversation.
@@mider-spanman5577 they were both great at the different kind of dance they danced to.
SRR is the greatest of all time for a reason
Man this guy was slick
One of the all time greats.
Had a record of something like 221-12....
Very impressive, but Sadler had his number.
Greetings
Fuck yeah!
He made the good ones look bad. Not even a plane crash could keep him down for the count.
Does anyone know who the black-haired boxer is that Pep's fighting? He appears to be quite good also.
Im thinking who is the best defensive of all time: Willie Pep, Mayweather, Ward, Hopkins, Whitaker.
At Featherweight to Lightweight, I don't see Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Hamed and even Pacquiao beating him.
What I would give to see the amateur match between Willie and Sugar Ray Robinson.
They have an exhibition match on here.
Apollo Creed tried to train Rocky Balboa -using this music in his personal gym- in 1982.
Paulie was quick to note that Balboa "ain't got no rhythm, you can't train a white guy the same way you do a coloured fighter..."
William Pepperoni sure seems to have 'coloured rhythm.' I bet he can do a jig counter-clockwise, going backwards in an ice-rink....
I agree but were you have Spence on p4p If you have him?
Somewhere in the top 10 I guess? Maybe 8? Definitely not top 5.
willie pep
pernell whitaker
floyd mayweather.
monte carlo Saludes Orlando canizales. And Roberto Duran.
Best 126 lbser in history
Peps name is synonymous with greatness. Thanks and Godspeed.
Ps What's the Soundtrack?
Boogie Belgique - All Over The World
@ 2:08 is that legal?
madmedia370 nope
madmedia370 You mean controlling of the opponents hands?
Not everyone has to agree, but Willie's style even looked better, more impressive than Nassem Hamed's. (With all the respect for the Prince ofc.)
slick
So I guess Whittaker wasn’t the defensive genius that paved the road for that style of fighting. This guy was at least 50 yrs too early in the boxing game.
Are feather weights feather fisted?
Not quite. Willie pep opponents noted he could bang even though his ko numbers tell a different story.
Sandy Saddler wasn't.
Forgive me but...which one is he?
Eh?
song?
