  • We finally get the hood open and get the front seats out so we can start cleaning the interior. gave it a wash to get some of the dirt and grime off so I can see how far ill need to go with the paint to bring it back to life.

    It should have been a criminal offense to put anything less than 400 ci in a Trans Am.

    Your Trans Am looks like a very good car. I have a original numbers matching 1979 Trans AM SE 400 4spd car that has WS6 4wheel disc package with air conditioning. It also has the same black velour interior that yours has with T-Tops. I finished mechanically restoring the car a few years ago and drive it every once in awhile. It is also original interior and paint. These cars are great!

      Sounds like you got an awesome car. 400 4spd makes it that much better. Glad you kept it original paint and interior!

    Have fun, see if you can unseize the 301. They're often tougher than given credit. You can change your mind about it as you go. Really awesome that you have a WS6 car with the suspension and 4 wheel disc. I noticed they had helper springs in the back!

    It's been repainted & decaled before. U can tell by the paint and the incorrect sail panel decals and misplacement of the pinstripes that run over the hod,roof and trunk lid

    • @vintagehotrods
      @vintagehotrods  Год назад

      I dont know these cars well enough so I’ll definitely look into the placement of everything. If someone did respray it they did a hell of a job. I know there are a couple touch up spots.

    • @VegasRT500
      @VegasRT500 9 месяцев назад

      Nahhh. I think his car is wearing mostly original paint. The 1979 Trans Am SE had pinstripes that run over the back of hood, over the roof and over the trunk lid and other areas just like his does.

    • @thebandit7408
      @thebandit7408 9 месяцев назад

      @VegasRT500 the pinstripes weren't that messed up from the factory and the s/e didn't receive the small standard sail panel birds! They got the large sail panel birds

    • @VegasRT500
      @VegasRT500 8 месяцев назад

      EDIT: LOL! You are correct about the sail panel decal. I went out to the garage and looked at my 1979 Trans Am SE and indeed those birds are even larger. But not only that. The stripes on that car are not in the correct configuration. The fat stripe should be on the inside with the thinner stripe following the outside.

    looks like a well taken care of salt belt TA. when i say well taken care of I meant in a good way. A salt belt driven TA car you can watch the lower quarter in front of the back tire rust away from the inside out within like 3-4 yrs. real bad spot for rust.

      Yeah this car still blows my mind. Makes no sense how its this nice. Im assuming he never drove it in winters

    So, I have a question. My dad just bought a black and gold '78 Trans Am. His interior is currently gold, but he's wanting to change it to black (like the '78 he bought new). His interior had the suede seats, but this one currently has leather. Would you be interested is switching your interior to gold? He lives in Illinois, just outside St Louis.

    • @vintagehotrods
      @vintagehotrods  9 месяцев назад +1

      Appreciate it, but absolutely not. I hate the gold/tan interior haha lol If i were you i would dye it or find a good used set of covers! Could probably find some fairly cheap.

    • @2000TA
      @2000TA 9 месяцев назад

      @vintagehotrods worth a shot. You just have the seats he had in his first one. His current ones seats are perfect. Just saying.

  • @Tiffany.1970

    Carrful when cleaning the seats .....dont get them too damp as the water rots the seat sponges and overtine the sponges degrade n break down

    • @vintagehotrods
      @vintagehotrods  9 месяцев назад +1

      Don’t plan on cleaning them that deep. Going to use my interior cleaner for them.

    Are you sure it's a 301 V8 .I owned lots of these cars and in 1979 the car's got ether the 403 Old's motor that came with most automatics trans cars and 400 V8 Pontiac's with 4speed .I was a teenager when they came out .I remember 1980 the 301 and 301 turbo where used and the 400 and 403 where NO MORE. You could get the 301 in a regular Firebird from 1977 to 1981 some one mite of ordered it special with that engine .

    • @vintagehotrods
      @vintagehotrods  8 месяцев назад

      Phs documents show it was ordered with the 301. And obviously if it were an olds the engine would be completely different (oil fill up front) and not having the decals on the scoop was a dead give away it was a 301 car. Pretty odd for it to have one especially in a real trans am.

    • @bigdaddy9864
      @bigdaddy9864 8 месяцев назад

      that is what i said it must of been ordered that way because as i said Pontiac shipped dealer orders with 403 Olds & 400 Pontiac's and yes all Pontiac blocks look the same You have a very cool car!@@vintagehotrods

    Question: Do you have a recommendation for a driveshaft shop in the Kokomo area? Broke a u-joint on my ‘55, replaced it and now I’ve got a pretty gnarly vibration in it over 60mph. Either got bent or threw a weight.

      Thanks! Im stoked for it as well. Yea i do believe you can take it to rowe truck and they will send it off to get balanced for you! They just did a friend of ours a couple weeks ago.

    Build sheet could be behind a door panel or behind seat back or horribly under the carpet. I’ve found them in other GM cars

      These trans ams were normally behind the rear seats, under the front seats or on top of the fuel tank. Maybe ill get lucky and find it somewhere else. Ill just get the PHS and make it easy lol

      On these it is behind rear seat in the frame (top part) and between the gas tank and trunk floor
