- Here is a tutorial on playing the funky guitar part on Doja Cat's "Say So". It's a great study on breaking down large chords into small voicings that work well with funk guitar. Guitar tablature is included.

Which pedals were you using for this one?
@@garyle3778 Hi Gary - I use the Line 6 Helix. Reverb, Small Delay, Compression (a lot), slight Chorus
That is like the group "Chic " 1979 song rhythm from the song titled Good times.!
I noticed this driving to work the other day and it finally clicked on why I like this so song so much
Yeah it has kinda funky rhythm
I was making a master rhythm score and wanted to make sure the chords I found are right. And have to submit it to school soon so THANK YOU!!
Very cool! Happy to have helped you.
What school?
This was an excellent tutorial, I love the attention to detail with the chord explanation, voicing, and which notes are better emphasised. You're clearly very knowledgeable, best person to teach this stuff! The chord progression in this song is really interesting, you don't hear too many mainstream songs that leave out your regular major & minor chords completely.
Thanks man! Glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for the compliment! I agree, it's a unique guitar part
this makes learning the track so much easier. Thank You...
Great! Glad that you found the video helpful.
You deserve more subs and views very professional !
Thanks Ricardo!
Wonderful tutorial thank you. I’m only a (late in years) beginner and have visited a number of guitar tuition channels trying to find my way. Your tuition is great. New sub. All the best from England. P.S. Brilliant playing from you too, Andy.
Thanks Bob!
The last bit of improvisation at the end is worth a million dollars :)
End solo is sublime
Fantastic video, thank you!
Quick summary:
Em7 A7sus4 D7 D7
Em7 A7sus4 D7 B7sus4 to B7
(Although Andy breaks it down in richer detail)
Never knew that I wanted to learn this
How is this so underrated my gosh
You earned my sub! Very professional, simple yet effective and a voice that makes you want to listen and learn easily. Looking forward to see more videos from you! Love that ending!!!
Thank you! Glad that you enjoyed the video. And thanks for sticking around for the end solo!
If I didn't say it before.. I live for the little jam segment at the end😂. That 3 chord cascade.. 😩😩😩😩 Heaven receive me
Haha - thanks man. I just finished uploading the tabs for that section to my website today. You can grab them there. I'll be doing a breakdown video of that section next week. Thanks again
I’ll be honest: I instantly noticed the Nile Rogers funk feel before even knowing who sang the song. Just found your channel and have subbed! Thanks!
Edit: Might be a stretch to ask, but could you possibly do a quick video on your solo section? It was so jazzy and had such a great feeling to it.
Thank you for the message and for the sub! And I'm glad that you stuck around for the solo at the end. I'll try to get to breaking it down.
Hi all - check out my Rhythm Guitar Tutorial for In Your Eyes (the Weeknd & Doja Cat), as well if you like this style of guitar playing.
I really like Say so but I love this guitar especially
Great explanation, such an easy song but a lot can be learned! I love your tone and the blue lighting too
Glad that you liked it!
you really are a great musician.
Thank you!
Such a beautiful chord progression. Love it!
i hope your channel blows up man perfect execution. cam and aesthetic lights. keep doing you!
Thanks very much! I really appreciate the positive comment. Means more than you know!
This is the actual way to play it! There are some videos of more complicated chords that weren´t actually used in the original recording, but they work very well with it, so maybe those could be used for a guitar cover in which there are subtle changes
Woo...just listened to the outro...that is some serious guitar work...
Haha - thank you! You are one of the few that made it that far!
Great tutorial man sounds just like the original
How did you get that tone?
Thanks a lot. I use the Line 6 Helix. Any clean amp will get the job done. Also, use a guitar with single coil pickups.
one of my guilty pleasures lol.
Thanks for the lessons!
Would leave million likes if I could. So professional and up to the point. Although I kinda knew the chords already, that sus4 was a surprise for me.
the solo at the end
Thank you! Nobody ever makes it that far in the video (:
J’adore !!! Rajouter le réglage guitare et ampli pour avoir le même son que le tuto serait super 👍🏼
I don't know how I ended up here but it is Beautiful, please do a full cover big hug from Argentina!
Haha - thanks very much!
Fantastic work!
Great lesson! Thank you
I clicked 'like' bec I could not find the 'love' button. On point, and well-presented.
Thank you!
Similar to Good times by Chic back in the day, Nile Rodgers. The chords are different but a similar style. This song is number 6 on the billboard chart. Nice tutorial.
Thanks Tim
Me and a friend (he's a bass player) and we're gonna play this!
thank for your lesson perfect😀
Thank you sir, very helpful!!!

Yr awesome. Thank you

Great video 👍
JohnathenCuellar thanks!
Hey, I’ve heard that song before! Back in the late 70s, or was it the early 80s?
Oh so it's the verses to "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone
Lyric:
Totsuzen no kisu ya atsui manazashi de
Koi no puroguramu wo kuruwasenaide ne...
---
Plastic love.
Andy, you seem to be adding a few extra strums here and there. If you listen to the instrumental version of the tune you'll hear it more clearly. I think you are adding some extra strums according to what you think it should be but if this is a computerized sampling of a prerecorded guitar, the human element of the "feel" will be eliminated. Just my take, I could be wrong. Thanks
Hi Ralph - I haven't heard the instrumental version and went with pretty much what I hear on the chorus sections on the original song. I'll have a listen, though. Thanks
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had the strumming pattern for each chords please ? Because I'm confused with the muting technique. Especially on A7sus4 (2:30mn). Thanks ! Great tutorial by the way :)
Nile Rodgers is a genius
Hi I think you are amazing :) What electric guitar would you recommend for beginners? If you've heard get to you again by mac ayres, can all electric guitars make that kind of sound or are some better than others? Thank you
Hi Kelly - thank you for the kind words. I recommend getting a guitar that is comfortable to play as a beginner guitar. The one that I am playing in this video is a good choice - Fender Telecaster. I just listened to the Mac Ayres song (it's a beautiful song), most guitars can produce that sound although a guitar with humbucker pickups would work best for that style. Good luck!
I know I am late but my beginner personal recommendation is an 80's Squier Strat from Japan or Korea if you can find one. Necks feel amazing and the guitar is very upgradable. Mine is an 1989 Made in Korea Squier Strat with Maple Neck.
I play them a little differently. But the voicing could be changed nevertheless it’s a good vid
Thanks man
can you make a rhythm guitar tutorial - Surf Mesa - ily (i love you baby) feat. Emilee
Hey! Thank. You so much! This really helped me but one question, what’s the tone on the amp you use for this song?
Hi - I use the Line 6 Helix for my videos. Any clean amp with reverb will get you there. Thanks
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Nile influences over music is maddd
Oh man, totally
"No police" be like that but in another variation.
Nice lesson. Are you using chorus and compression effects?
Yes, exactly. Chorus and compression.
creo que soy el unico en español, pero esta chida la cancion
Better than the Originale Version
Haha thanks man
Click track is approximately 108bpm?
Who else had an “aha 2-5-1!” moment? I suppose you could hear it as E Dorian but I hear the tonal center as D Ionian with an interesting B substitution
Yep, you are correct. The B is the VI7 chord in D major (the dominant of Em7)
I wish I knew what this meant, I’m still learning haha
Dongsung KIm it’s a style of chord progression commonly seen in Jazz. If this is in the key of D, which to my ear it is, then we’re starting on the 2 chord (Emin), going to the 5 chord (A), and then the 1 chord (D)
👍🏻
Besides all the remarks above, this is what teles wee made for. And 10,233 further tasks...😂
The guitar sound on the song is very 80s funky, very Paul Jackson Jr.
Oh yeah, totally. You're right
Hi andy, I might have problems with the funky rythm, any recomendation, on the muting or which strings are you picking when your muting?
Hey I’m new to electric guitar and I don’t really know how to use my amp. How do I make it sound this cool?
Hi - use a clean setting on your amp. And use a guitar with single cool pickups. That will get you very close.
who plays guitar on this track ? thank you.
Great job playing Good Times by Doja Cat, er I mean le Chic, joking. We all know Dr Luke loves funk music and like Pharrell, they basically take existing progressions.
Slap down them tabs for that ending solo!
