    I would also look for other causes man, 10 grams of carbs is ultra low. Insulin receptor micronutrients, mitochondrial dysfunction, excessive blue light, adrenals etc. There are so many etiologies for hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Keep up the good work Dr!

      My mom has the same situation, 100~150+ blood sugar every morning but after her breakfast and waiting for 2 to 3 hours her blood sugar drops below 100, I even got around 84 at one point. So I believe she her insulin resistance is not that bad but we are still trying to figure out how to lower her blood sugar in the morning to atleast below 100.

      Same here, my sugar was around 250-350 all the time. Whether I ate or not. I've been talking insulin to drop it, but the doctors prescribed too low a dose so I have yet to see sugar blood under 100. The doctor said I shouldn't be intermittent fasting because my liver releases glucose when I'm in a fasted state, but my cells are too resistant to use the glucose.

    Okay dawn phenomenon. This is true, yet I'd argue that this "insulin resistance" may just be peripheral not pathological. Also considering that glucose levels are naturally higher in the AM due to cortisol and thus glucagon secretion. The physiology become very conservative with glucose because of it's lack thereof. I've experienced dramatic rises and falls while entering keto and when coming off. Which is why this a gradual process (or should be). Thanks for the info.

    Dr. Jason Fung addresses this phenomenon of attenuated beta cell function in people who are NOT type 1 diabetics. He asserts that probably the reason they have diminished beta cell function is due to the fact that fat has infiltrated the pancreas, essentially gumming up the proper functioning of beta cells. So, unlike type 1 diabetes, where the decline in insulin production from the pancreas is the result of actual beta cell death, in the case of people who are NOT type 1 diabetic, but still produce low levels of insulin, it could be a result of perfectly good beta cells which are having their functioning impaired by a blockade of fat. For such a problem, Dr. Fung, if I understood him correctly, recommends just doing longer fasts. So for such tough cases, simply doing a low carb diet and a common 16:8 or 23:1 fast may not be enough. You may have to introduce a multi-day fast, periodically, in order to truly remove the ectopic fat which is causing this obstruction at the beta cell level.

    • @az.az466
      @az.az466 4 года назад +3

      For some reason I believe the same theory goes for type 1 diabetic. Fat or blockage in the pancreas is the real reason of non functioning beta cell not t cell attacking the beta cell !!!!! What is funny for me that no one in the world is looking to a different possibilities that may caused the damage to beta cell or pancreas! They are not open to different studies or research. I am not a doctor and this is my own personal belief. Stay self and thank you for sharing this information.

I know most of the td1 are skinny but since we do not see the inside of pancreas and the area around it I am thinking either there should be blockage to the duck of pancreas ( like stones or something) or it might be surrounded with bad fats that they consume. We all know these days our foods are not 100% food!!! By saying fat I did not mean that they are overweight or fat but most of them tend to have a bigger stomach!!! From what ive been seeing.. even when in ketosus.. when you sleep or interminted fast.. the body still needs energy to function and draws on your glucose reserves (if you have yet to lower your glucose levels).. so you get a spike.. which is helping to decrease your overall glucose levels gradually.

    • @NosyHausfrau
      @NosyHausfrau 4 года назад +13

      Yes. He's mentioned in another video that too much protein converts to insulin. That would have been a good point here, as well as mentioning, people "liver dump" (create and release sugar during the night) especially when they fast. Some more than others. For me, that leveled off after about 9 days on Keto. Between that and long walks, my fasting blood sugar is normal for the first time in a long time.

      I have the same problem when eating protein. Too much protein will not only raise my blood sugar, but drops me out of ketosis (verified by a blood ketone meter). So with keto we can only eat a small amount of carbs and moderate amount of protein, so that only leaves fats. What food would that be? Every time I see a video about the keto diet being made up of mostly fats they mention eating avocados, butter, lard & heavy whipping cream. How do you survive on that to stay in ketosis and lose weight without being hungry all the time?

      You do realize that the reason why intermittent fasting works is because it lowers your insulin levels correct? Keto is just a way to eat that doesn't spike your insulin levels. If are not a high insulin producer thus insulin resistant, you will likely be able to see results from intermittent fasting alone.
      Intermittent fasting and keto are tools in the low insulin game.

    Dr Berg please let me know what you think. I have tried to take milk thistle but I am very sensitive to it. The first time I tried it I made a weak one tea bag infusion to a quart of water and just took one half of a coffee cup at about 3PM and at 2AM the next morning I woke up and went to the bathroom vomited some green bile, had two bowel movements and was sweating for about 40 minutes, I guess a ton of toxins were coming out of my body. The next day I felt tired all day and I had to eat a small breakfast of beans on toast with butter before I could resume regular meals. Several years later just recently I tried again but this time I bought a bag of milk thistle seeds and I just put one seed in my raw vegetable salad for dinner at 4PM and it wasn't as bad as the half a cup of tea but I did have trouble sleeping that night and I felt like I was detoxing to an uncomfortable degree. Is this normal to be so sensitive, am I having a reaction, or do I need to just tough it out? And what is the next best substitute for milk thistle to support liver function? Thanks for your help!

      Check your fasting insulin levels. They're likely over 10. If your fasting insulin is more than 10 it is impossible for your body to burn fat. This is likely from too much protein consumption. Do a quick 48 to 72 hour fast, things will get moving again

    Interesting. I have high blood glucose in the morning even on less than 20g of total carbs a day. One thing I notice, which seems to be in line with this video, is even if I use some fast acting insulin to lower my glucose level, it takes a long time to take effect (about 1 hour). However, if I do any demanding exercise (makes me sweat), my blood glucose drops super fast. So I have to be very careful if I take fast acting insulin and plan to do exercise. Its like my energy demand is too low normally and my body simply does not need to use my blood glucose...Will try to do exercise first thing in the morning without insulin and see how my dawn phenomenon reacts...

      How screwed up were you to start with? Are you exercising? If it took you years/decades to create the problem, it might take months or even a couple years to get corrected and healed up. And if you were doing things correctly, you wouldn't feel like you were starving when you fast. When you are in ketosis, fasting is very easy because you don't have the same hunger drive.

Fortunately, over the last 10 months I have lost 50 pounds and my blood glucose and my A1C are down to normal levels and my doctor no longer considers me diabetic nor pre-diabetic! Dr. Berg, thank you so much for your help to the world community. Your videos are pretty amazing and cover all the details, but I am facing something I could not find a video on this. Would you be so kind as to help me out?
    Is this normal? Still in adaptation phase?
    Here is my situation:
    I just finished my 1st fasting for 48 hours, I know the high blood sugar in the morning are common until my body re-adapt to the new fasting style. However, this morning finally my blood sugars readings drop to 67 ml/dl and keto in 0.4 mmol/L (5AM) when I got home around (1:30PM) it was 102, did not take a keto reading, as I know that would not working as the blood sugar are high.
    I have been doing fasting for about 4 weeks in a low run tests of 12/12s, 16/8s a few 24s, 2 36s and this was my first 48. Only last week I have started the keto diet. Last weekend I took a break and Saturday had a few beers and ate bread, after that I had a OMAD and 14h fasting before the below.
