- The 97th Running of the Indianapolis 500 was held on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tony Kanaan, a native Brazilian and IndyCar fan-favorite, drove to victory in the 200-lap race and became the fourth Brazilian driver to win “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
In a race that featured an astonishing 68 race-record lead changes among a race-record 14 drivers, Kanaan cruised to the checkered flag in front of more than 300,000 of his new-found closest Twitter friends and a global TV/radio audience. Kanaan, who completed the straight flush with the victory (he's finished first through fifth), wiped tears from his eyes as he guided the Chevrolet-powered No. 11 Hydroxycut KV Racing Technology/SH Racing car to the waiting Bog-Warner Trophy.
"That last lap was the longest of my life," said Kanaan, who started 12th and led 34 laps. "I got a little bit of luck today and this is for the fans. I was looking at the stands (on the cool-down lap) and it was unbelievable.
“I am speechless. I made it, and now I get to put my ugly face on that trophy. We were known for not winning (the race) and now we are known for winning. Everything was so smooth. (Race strategist) Jimmy (Vasser) was calm. I was calm. But out of the 11 times I have been here it was exactly the same, so when it was six laps to go and it went yellow I wasn't in the lead I said, 'This might be the day. Today might be the day.'
"I was in Ryan (Hunter-Reay's) position many times and then I knew I had to get the lead on the restart because it could be a yellow, which had happened to me plenty of times here. And it did. How life is funny, the yellow was my best friend."
This was one of the best Indy 500’s I’ve ever seen. I was at this race and enjoyed the finish.
My parents got divorced in 2012 and the 2013 is my best memory with my Dad. I’ve probably watched this race 50 times It’s the best ever automobile race ever. This race got me through the rough times. So thank you for uploading this
I'm sorry for your parents. It's nice to know that you overcame this tough time. Keep your good memories, it makes you a better people every time. Stay safe mate 👊🏼
I'm sorry dude it's so much harder for the children..
I hope you are okay now and still have a good relationship with your parents!
And I really hope you didn't get to experience to much trauma due to it..
I love the 2013 race, despite many I also like the look of that generations car.
Not really in the road/street configuration, but the oval version really looks cool with the "fenders" on the rear!
I wish you all the best man, greetings from Germany!
The motor speedway and the 500 got me through A LOT. I have to return the favor every year if able. Even if I can't make it, I'll still buy tickets and give them away. I love it so much. We are very lucky they didn't take her away from us during COVID. God Bless RP.
My parents broke up at the end of 2012. And the beginning of 2013.

Video messes up around 3:06:47 and miss the final restart. Please fix. Thank you for the great videos!
Indy1977TX Yes I Agree where the video messes up it needs to be fixed!! ASAP
Same!
A year letter and it's still messed up.

This was the 1st Indy 500 I was at! I went in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019
Finally Tony, you are the best.
This race was insane and TK finally wins the 500 I love this style of racing
I believe this was the most competitive 500 in history.Had it stayed green it would CERTAINLY be the greatest ever. The last restart was FOUR ABREAST almost! I am glad I was there!
I have been going regularly since 2006... I remember watching this race and being on my feet every time the cars passed by. I have main straight away seats. just awesome to see.
Dan Wheldon would've been so proud of him that day
This was my first indy 500 in person and will probably always be my favorite one ever
LMAO at the introduction. Ed Carpenter is the David to the big teams' Goliath .... if you ignore that his stepfather owns the racetrack and the series.
Michael Andretti is probably the best Indy driver I have ever seen. Always near the leader in almost every race.
No
I think it’s cool to have Scott Goodyear and the 1998 Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever Jr. calling the race. They do a great job.
It was so cool that the Dinger competed in this race. I wish he stayed in open wheel
What’s he doing now?
@@triciariddle1418 Analyst for IMSA on NBC as well as NASCAR on NBC. Runs the odd endurance race for Shank in IMSA and runs select races for Kaulig Racing in Xfinity, too!
I still feel like this was his race to win. The only person that seatbelt issue could happen to is AJ, such bad luck.
It's cool to see some of what goes on during station breaks
FYI, there's an upload of this race from a non-official channel that's still up as of today that's a much higher quality. 60 FPS, better surround sound, and no video issues. Pretty sad how Indy Motor Speedway and the IndyCar Series itself upload such buggy videos unnecessarily. This was far from the only year where this is a problem.

The blue camaro pace car came by my job today. Had to see it at the race.
3:11:48 I have a picture of this exact moment from the stands. To this date, my only visit to the 500 and it was amazing.
2:00 brad keslowski?
Love the Monaco gp on the tv too lol
3:06:21 it's my favorite moment! All or nothing.
26:25 an Introduction, Drivers
That was a cold day.
Why would someone put a 3:34:28 video up and not show the final 3 laps of a race, which shows how the race was won. This must be a really bad joke.

I know they won't answer, but I'm curious !!! If you are an official Indianapolis channel, why do your videos, especially Indy 500, have so many editing problems ???
18:10 Tom Rinaldi doing work. Love his features, this is another great one.
I miss the these three broadcasters I wish it would go back to ABC.
Danica retired WAY to early
You got that right
C'mon, the broadcast missed the final TK overtake.
Tony was talking in a brazilian podcast the pther day, and told the story behind this race.
It was like a reunion, he called all his old mechanics and. Dude trying to win for more than 13 years
0-29 Katherine Legge was going really well but suddenly lost laps ....10 years later she is back at the Indy500 🙏💫
Ana Beatriz was best female finisher in 15th 12 seconds back
3:11:11 Tony Kanaan You are the CHAMPION! Vai Brasil car@lh@!!!
I wish I could be interviewed by Jamie Little. The tribute to Arlington is very much appreciated: instead of that high-school field trip to Washington DC, students should be brought to Arlington so they can see for themselves, the foundation of this country. A lot of adults would do well to pay their respects at this very special place. Of all the drivers, surely, Ed Carpenter deserve the "Life Achievement Award at Indie, if there was such a thing (and I have never liked Chevys).
1:00:00 Pace laps and 1:07:00 the race starts

1:07:00 The Race Begin!
Turbo was here
I would shed a few tears if Marco could pull it off
He almost had it in his debut rookie year, then it was stolen from him literally 3 seconds to the line
Video messed up around 3:06:47 until 3:08:30. This is so frustrating that no one fix this up.
What? go back in time to refilm it?
3:01:15 weirdest glitch I've ever seen.
I was at this Indy 500 I was also at the Indy 500 that Dario retired
3:14:00 YESSSSS
I'm so glad this style of racing is going away. Other thank TK winning this is one of my least favorite 500's that I've watched or attended. Maybe it's just me but I find running around in the draft much less interesting than when handling causes the field to spread out and drivers have to fight their car every corner of every lap with no handicap on the straights from a big draft
30:12
Matt Pareja shouted Oh My!, Oh My God!, Oh Boy there's a new leader!, Go Crazy Folks!, and That's a Winner! during the Net 25 live telecast of the 97th Indianapolis 500
3:00:00
52:39 57:36
The video literally stopped with 5 to go and restarted after the caution came out with 2 to go.... Dislike...

I have been watching alot of replays of indy this week. From 95 to this one. The commentary here is so boring. it has defiantly worsened over the years.
I bet AJ wishes he was still driving
♥️
All them caution laps at the end was bullshit. Totally disappointed in end of race.
Turbo won I don't.... Wait where is Turbo? The fast Garden Snail.
Here's the closing statement of the 2013 Indianapolis 500 which was covered by Net 25 as told by Rossel Velasco-Taberna:
Nobody could ever told that this year's Indianapolis 500 would be the craziest one of all. 68 lead changes caught the eyes of every televiewer, all culminating with Tony Kanaan's big Indy 500 win. Well, for almost 30 years the Indianapolis 500 on Philippine Television has made a success every year. But what would the future holds for IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500 on Net 25 if they stop covering sports after next year's BCS National Championship? Only time will tell

miss you marty reid from japan.
Why do you miss Marty Reid?
Till this day. I feel Tony Kanaan should've stayed with KV Technology Racing instead of Chip Ganassi Racing.
How come that Guy Gagné wasn’t in this?

IRL should adopt what NASCAR has GREEN-WHITE-CHECKER. Finishing on a yellow S*U*C*K*S
Ladies get to be on the broadcast team...cool. It means the gate keepers finally realized they can talk about the event with the best. Kind of wish there was a female Jackie Stewart on the team. I miss that brogue.
If they have something to add who cares who they are, but that also ran driver they put on F1 and the Indianapolis 500 broadcasts has nothing to add.
Stop focusing on what is between peoples' legs. Gross.
Women aren't special for being women.
how they present the indy 500 is like they pretend f1 doesnt exist lmao
I met tony on carb day and he signed my shirt that had a four leaf clover on it. Won the race come Sunday, I like to think I gave him the luck he needed
Race starts at 1:02:25

3:01:14 Bro... woah...
Love that y'all have posted these videos! But there's a glitch that misses the final restart.

This was my first Indy 500 I ever attended. I’ll never forget seeing TK cross the finish under yellow. Ever since this day, the spectacle that is the Indy 500 still gets the emotions moving in me unlike anything else.
How can you watch it with dry eyes?!

WHERE IS TURBO?!!!!!!!
Great win from brazil
The Faster Indy 500 ever: 2 Hours and 40 minutes.
Not anymore
@@jrsmith5080 Yes, Budy. Today: 190.690 M/H (306.8583 Km/H) average in 2 Hours 37 minutes, 20 seconds.
Apart from the Valley Girl doing the introductions, this was an excellent race. Whoever picked the hostess though had to be completely out of their mind.
54:50 Thanos got him
Great record...the main lead change when TK became a leader is fucked up. Just great.
Thank you for posting the first race I went to
Guys will watch TK cross the bricks and think "hell yeah".
That last restart was fantastic ... throw a blanket over the top five diving into to turn one ... with two to go.
I see you Kyle Larson 49:54 😂
Now in 2024 he gets to compete 🤙
The Andretti curse continues.....
Who knows, it could end in 2020
Jonathan Guevarra nah
My best friend and I have been going since 1999 and are favorite drivers are Castroneves and Kannan and at this point my driver had won 3 Indy 500's but one of my best memories was watching my best friend's driver TK get his first! Two grown men were pretty emotional at the 2013 running of the 500 which will last a lifetime for me!
Isn't it funny that Takuma Sato was a disaster in Formula 1, but in Indy Car he's one of the very good performers ? Looks like he finally found his niche...
I hate that he is a mediocre driver with a lot of support from Honda and he won 2 500s. He is not that good.
Adjust your mfing signal dude. Wtf
Even the 2012 race was having problems
So happy for Tony
Came here right after the 2020 indy race
And who cares if the driver is American, or not - what we care about is which driver is the best, no matter what. Get your act together, America !
Big time.
Who are you yelling at?
26:25 Driver Intros
“finally i’m gonna put my ugly face on that trophy” such a legend TK. this one still puts tears in my eyes.
2:03 wtf is brad doing there? he has a race to be at lol
2013. My favourite Indianapolis 500 of all time apart from many others.
1:18:26 That's John Tzouanakis (tah-ZAHN-a-kis) whose name Mince Welch mangled. "TZ" has been in the IndyCar paddock for many years, and was one of Newman-Haas' longest employed staff members. But don't expect an IRL apparatchik like Vince to have any clue about that.
Dario 🤔
2014 indy 500 is the year that I was there in person. Never forget that moment.
So basically a whole race in Turbo but without him?
