    BONUS STEP - Sharpen the blade over the tomatoes to create a lovely steely garnish. This helps to give that 'blood iron' flavour whilst adding a tasty risk of intestinal hemorrhage.

    • @dannywolf2959
      @dannywolf2959 10 лет назад +29

      You do realize that a steel does not actually sharpen the blade, so it does not remove any metal. It is actually a tool used for straightening out a blade that may still be sharp but has just curved to one side or the other.

      Aren't you're supposed to hone the steel AFTER every use so that it keeps it's edge? I mean I guess you can hone it before you use it since that still makes it "after" your last use... but I don't really see why you wouldn't just do it later.
      Also yes, it isn't really sharpening the blade, but if you always do it you won't need to sharpen the blade as soon.

    We are so sorry that this was not what you were looking for. However, it is more difficult to cut a whole tomato. The challenge is trying to make all the slices straight and even. Cutting it in half 1st really makes it more manageable. We really do hope you can give it a try and see what you think. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. We appreciate hearing from our viewers! ;)

    This was a good video, but it didn't show me how to slice WHOLE slices. When I was searching for tomato slicing videos. The screenshot for this video shows tomatoes sliced without cutting it in half. I tried looking for a video that shows whole slices but there isn't anything good out there. Will try it this way but I was wanting to use these tomatoes for sandwiches and I fear that half-slices may make the sandwich messier to eat and have to deal with bits of tomato falling out of the sandwich.

    You don't need 2 knives, just hold the utility knife as you would have held the paring knife. Or just use the paring knife the whole time. You can do this with virtually any knife...

    I was disturbed by the way he honed the knife. Mostly because he was drawing the blade toward his other hand. The same effect could be achieved by pointing the steel away from yourself. It's probably best not done over the cutting board and something you're planning to eat, either. The people who consider this video trivial probably aren't good at anything.

    @ToyamaMatsuki if you dont know how to use a steel or use it wrong youll exualy end up chipping your knife ,and yes a stone does take som metal off but only 1 nmm you cant even see it. and i dont know where you learnd chemstry but you cant wash away magnetic properties.metal is magnetic becouse of it moncule form magnets excite thes moncules makeing it stick to it.so i wish you good luck whit washing off moncules

    In most supermarkets these days, the problem is getting tomatoes that are ripe and with some flavor, inasmuch as most are picked green and then placed in a gas chamber to induce the red color associated with ripeness.
