It is nice to learn more about Victoria's history! I hope to be able to visit Victoria, when things are safer in downtown Victoria (I hope). Since Covid hit, our dear little city has become unsafe. ~Janet in Canada
Most buildings on lower Johnson Street were designed by the same architects of old town Sacramento, California reflecting the expansion of the "Gold Rush" northward.
A few years ago the lane of Government St. closest to the lawns of the Legislative Assembly was dug up for a couple hundred feet. The street car rails and ties are still in place, just buried by pavement.
Excellent work, thank you. Maybe ironically, as of late, the Hallmark corporation has made quite an extensive use of the town of Victoria for their Hallmark brand movies. Coincidence Hallmark Heritage Society? or how far does this rabbit hole go?! Thanks for sharing none the less

Everyone makes the mistake of saying ‘the parliament buildings’. The parliament buildings are federal and in Ottawa. This site is the British Columbia Legislative Assembly or just the legislature.
Darn, I just checked the original drawings in the Lobby and they say British Columbia Parliament Buildings. Perhaps this is where the Legislature sits.
moved to Victoria from a real rural place a few years ago. Didn't experience any snobbery. I think you probs had one bad experience and decided to now be salty over it

Fair warning to tourists that are thinking of visiting Victoria the locals here are probably the biggest snobs in Canada.
Their town was invaded and taken away from them by stuck up rich foreigners.

The old videos are missing the crackheads and homeless camped out in front of retail shops, Victoria's new vibe.
That vibe is in every city now not just Victoria
