Until a few weeks ago, I was using my old laptop from 2010. Still works perfectly. I upgraded it to a 250GB SSD last year and it runs Windows 10 perfectly. Has 4GB of ram currently, but can be upgraded to 8GB for ~$110 more.
Qosmio F45, NICE! I have one in my collection that I upgraded to a T8300 Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, and 120GB SSD running Windows 10... and it actually runs VERY well for as old as it is.
I recently doubled my 2010 MacBook Pro's 4Gb ram and added an OCZ Agility 3 SSD (the MacBook is only Sata 2 I know) it's definitely improved performance significantly.
I'd love if you guys could make an in depth tutorial on this, and I bet that a lot of other people would too! :D Especially the transfers of your files and OS to the new drive, because that part gets a little finiky. Great show Guys! :)
If I am just adding a new SSD drive and want to put the OS on that, do I then reconfiger the old one, so that the OS is no longer on that one? Does it work seamlessly, so that if I just boot the computer back up, the OS will run without a hitch?
Maybe you can help?? I have Dell Latitude E6510 with windows 7 professional 64 bit with Samsung 850 SSD and i can't upgrade my memory to 8gb, i only can use 2gb. I do not know why, when i put 2x4gb memory laptop doesn't work... please help!
I got a quesiton about the RAM: I had a mobile workstation given to me by the company (working in architecture and I have to be on-site to modify and verify designs) and I was considering to upgrade the RAM from DDR3 16GB (4x4GB sticks) into 32GB (4x8GB sticks). What I know about my laptop is that it is an MSI, it has a Quadro GPU and it can support DDR3 32GB/1600Mhz, but while I've bee looking over SO-DIMM sticks, I've seen a price gap between generic 8GB RAM sticks and the branded once, difference being that the branded ones are Dual Channel. The gap was quite big, from $160 from Crucial to $340 from Corsair, so I was wondering if the fact that Dual Channel SO-DIMMs are worth the price jump.
Your NB needs good ram as that you are using it alot and lots of tasks. I used to use no-branding and rusty ram on my pc. Then, i did change to Kingston Hyper-x ram just that i want a good-looking ram. I didnt think i would see any performanace gains but it did. After checking my fps while playing I can now gains some more fps in the game when it was low before.(The ram was the same bus speed with the same 8gbs) So, i reccomended you buy a Corsair ones, but if you don't have lots of money or you are on a budget go with Crucial.
I dont know about you guys, but here in Brazil-Sao Paulo we have a place like shibuya/Japan, a entire street(dozens of it actually) with sellers from old to new parts from pcs, only ebay could match the variety, take a look at places like this over your place and you can upgrade you NB/Pc for a fair price.
What could have gone wrong if windows doesnt start after adding RAM? I tried using the stock RAM again but it didnt work. Please help as both my PC and laptop are down. Laptop i tried this in is HP530
Hi there, I want to replace my RAM, but I'm not sure what type I should get. At the moment there is a DDR3 1600MHz 11-11-11-28 4G RAM-stick in there. But I want to replace it with two other sticks. Here's my question, do the timings have to be the same if I replace that one stick with two other with the same timing, or do the sticks that I am going to buy have to have the same timing as the old one? Thanks in advance :)
I am using my Dell (Latitude E6530 with Core i7 3rd gen) laptop having 500HDD and 4GB Ram currently. It runs Windows 10 perfectly. Still works perfectly. but can be upgraded it to a 250GB SSD and to 8GB more because I have to use different software like (Adobe premier pro, Android Studio etc). Can my laptop improve speed?
I'd check the power requirements to the laptop as well, Ive installed an SSD on my Dell, and the voltage requirements are so close that if the system is taxed too much, it sometimes will lose power to the SSD and the drive will fail.
+Adam Beidler There is a pannel on the bottom that you can remove. It reveals the ram slot. Take note of the specs of the ram and type that in amazon. $20 for 4 gb

can I upgrade my ram, memory, cpu, and graphics card? I have asus Q534uxk laptop with 16 gb ram, 2.7Ghz, Nvidia gtx 950m, core i7-7500U, 2tb harddrive. If I can upgrade, what would be the best bang for the buck (budget) upgrade type cpu and graphics card that can run 95% of games on high settings? I'm seriously trying to make an ultimate gaming laptop.
Cool video. I upgraded the RAM on my Dell a few months ago and for £30 for 8Gb of Crucial memory, it was well worth it. I didn't upgrade the HDD though, it's a complete pain to do on my model. If you're simply replacing the drive for more space, better speed, you can use your old one as an external drive. I've made a video (on my YT page) that shows how to do this, along with what to do with those pesky connectors some vendors put on the drive.
ok, serious question. I have a G60-637cl notebook that i purchased about 6 yrs ago. I used to have a hard time playing PC games like world of warcraft and league of legends because i would get lag and DC despite a good connection. The graphics card on this pc isnt that great. could that be the main reason for my troubles? if so, would it be possible to upgrade for a better card??? or is it something else?
Can I replace my hdd with an ssd w/o backing up anything? I want to install at least Win 7 Home Premium because I only have Starter, plus my laptop hangs after a few seconds so I can't do the back up process. Thanks to whoever answers!
Also, I meant installing Win 7 thru the optical drive after installing the ssd. Will the new os come with all the drivers I need or do I have to download everything anyway?
Basically your computer will heat up more if it is using an HDD since it is using movable parts such as the disk. An SSD however consists of chips. It is more convenient to have an SSD if you value performance and faster booting. SSD's are more common in ultrabooks but tend to have less memory. However if you wish to stick with more memory such as 1Tb, you might want to stick with an HDD. Also your graphics and performance depends on what core you are using. In this case I'm asuming you have Intel. Ultrabooks these days use i5 paired up with an SSD. For games and graphics you might want to invest on an i7 core or keep a lookout for Haswell based computers. In case you are looking for something more powerful, Radeon offers high quality graphics cards. If you are not sure what your computer needs (as far as SSD/HDD/RAM) go to crucial.com where they can recommend certain upgrades for specific computer models.
The fact is for a Windows XP laptop, then RAM maximized is 3 GB of Ram when Windows 7 professional is upgraded. For that XP laptop, the hard drive storage is 500 GB maximum. For the Windows Vista laptop running Windows 7 professional the maximum RAM is 4 GB RAM and hard drive storage is 1000 GB.
I have a laptop where the CPU can be removed by just twisting a small plastic lock. It's very ingenious the way it's set up: a single heatsink (a thick copper pipe) runs the length of the mobo (CPU, suoth bridge and GPU) all to one powerful fan. Saves a lot of space and weight!)
so i'm trying to start a gameplay channel but i'm on a limited budget and my laptop is too slow to edit, it has 8gb of RAM but still freezes and sticks a lot when i'm trying to preview edits, would an ssd make a big difference to this, i don't mind waiting long times to render i just want to be able to edit quickly, could anybody help please?
and to think I thought something was wrong with my laptop since no matter how may sticks of ram I inserted my laptop would only recognize 2GB and the ram worked since I kept swapping between 2 2GB sticks, 2 1GB sticks and any combination of the 2 with the occasional stick of 512MB just to see if I could make it 2.5Gb of ram but no, still only recognizes 2GB. My other laptops have 4 =GB but their Win7 while this one has 2GB with Win XP.
+Timstar Use a software named piriform speccy(portable). Then click ''RAM''' and see how many memory slots are used by your system and if you can upgrade
+gamerplay Just buy a big ssd and throw out that hdd that way you don't have to worry about magnetic fields or shock damaging part of your storage. Also, weight reduction.
Old DDR2 memory is very expensive. I just got 8GB (2x 4GB) for $150. My DELL has a 1920 x 1080 screen which I need. Most new laptops have much lower resolution without a upgrade option. An SSD will really make any PC or laptop faster but very old laptops may use ide drives rather than SATA.
Using does not equal expertise on computers in general. Just mess around with one, preferably a desktop, just for the heck of it, and do research online :)

+Javier Gomez You'd need a new motherboard to upgrade the graphics card. Buy a new computer.
Hay I have a stock Inspiron 530 with 6gb of ram in it when I put 2 x 4gb of ram sticks In it but it only reads 4
+Jwdogg2000 maybe your processor doesnt support 8 gb or your motherboard doesn't either between the 2
+Jwdogg2000 if you have 32 bit windows, upgrade it to 64 bit to use more than 4 GB of ram.

+MARVIN Slomp : No most of the time it's soldered onto the mainboard. RAM can be too sometimes so it's good to check the manufactures website.

Impossible. They are soldered in the motherboard....

I would check Ebay .. you can usually find it at a fair price

If you have an extra hard drive port you dont u just add that old hdd back into the pc so you can a boot drive(ssd) and a storage drive (hdd)

Do you need a specific hard drive for a laptop?
Adriane Robles if you have to ask that stay out of your laptop...
That depends on the cost of the old laptop and the age you call a 2 year old laptop really old but its not and worth upgrading
But an SSD can break easily, I would just get an external 1TB hard drive to store files you don't need.
