If a wii generally has a problem where it stops accepting disks, this is the best place to start looking.
If you like this console, you can buy it from www.thegamingso...
Lost it when he removed the tray-top to reveal Ben 10 and stylus.
Looks far easier than working on a vast majority of that generation's competitor's console's, yet I guess I'll find one with terminal illness or broken bits. I'll try my hand at it, once I find that speciality driver for getting that housing apart. Then I'll have to go after some disc as well. Great instruction for the first-time. Thanks for the valuable tips.
Wow most people charge a fee for just looking at electronics. Then what ever parts and labor would be. You are a amazing person to not charge to clean up the machine. I like your video. Thank you for showing us how to trouble shoot.
“Maybe it’s a bit racist” that made my day lmao
Just found a popsicle stick in mine 🤣

My wii everything works fine, but when it sucks in the disc it is very bumpy it does not take it in smoothly so what does that mean?
Open it up and check for debrea in the drive, dust on the rollers or gears can cause it too
How the frick does this person get a whole stylus suck in their wii 💀
Trying to fish out the Ben 10...duh ;)

I've just bought two to repair on my channel. I was a little worried at first, but now I'm feeling quite confident haha.
The Refix woah yo how’s quarantine
Do you have a video on itM
While its open, is there any advantage at adding a little white lithium grease (or other lubricant) to the gears or any sliding surfaces?
Dude, you rock! Thanks for fixing my wii console :) I got it in one of my shipments from the UK and immediately knew there was something wrong when I heard the rattling noise inside. Tried to open it myself but sadly didn't have a tri-wing screwdriver :( Phoned 5 or 6 different places but it seems few places in Durbs keep them.
My Nintendo Wii, (when I boot it on), it either displays a *very* dim screen, it is off screen, or it is just black. I *do* hear rattling inside, because I snapped off the Game Cube memory card cover (close to the a/v output) and a peice of plastic fell in. Now I can't keep either of the sides on, so I use Scotch clear tape. My Wii It isn't very new and I would be willing to open it up if the plastic falling in is known to be the problem, or if I need to buy new pieces internally.
I know that I am commenting on an old video, but your assistance would be of great help to me.
open it up and see
@@jjoosshhb2193 I actually did, It semed to be a weakened signal to the digital input on the tv, but when put through an rf modulator to coax, it worked fine.
Yoooo Ben 10 protector of earth was one of my childhood games on the Wii, the ds one too 😄😁
Have a good question cleaning the laser lens makes the disc player work better you know I clean it most of the time before I put it back together so it can work better
Thank you @HPZeta, just fixed my brother's Wii thanks to this tutorial!
Well there you go: Tiger Woods, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, The typical non-gamers choice of games. You're awfully nice to do this for free.

Trying to get an old wiigoing to fight corona virus boredom. Anytime a disc is in it says “ an error has occurred. Press the eject button, remove the game disc, and turn the power off. Please read the wii operations manual for more information.” I’ve tried blowing it out. The cooling fan is working. Help me please.
In a similar situation. Im desperate to play on my Wii (which is about 10+ years old) to help the coronavirus boredom too! But when i put any disc it nothing happens! Very frustrating. Tried everything but opening it, i wouldn’t know what to do.
Dafney Thompson does it give an error message or anything?
No, nothing changes
Dafney Thompson does it sound like it’s spinning the disc?
Hi, I loved your video. I have an Issue with my Wii not reading a Wii game with no scratches but plays GameCube games. I bought a game cleaner that wasn't licenced and I don't think the bristles reach because it's still erroring, do you know how this can be fixed?
I have the opposite problem. I used to play gamecube games all the time and now I can't for some reason. The wii doesn't even know there's a disc in it when it has a gamecube game. Have you solved your problem yet?
That was a very informative video thank you. I was hoping u can help me figure out my Wiis problem. It works fine most of the time but has been having disc read errors during game play and start up. Also I noticed that when the disc is ejected it's slightly angled toward the buttons on the Wii.( I stand my Wii up at all times, so basically it's angled towards the left. I have the tool to take it apart but I thought I would seek your opinion first. Thank you
Hi Colton, I am glad you enjoyed the video, it sounds like your Wii needs a bit of a service, cleaning the laser will help with the read errors , and cleaning and greasing the gears will help ejecting discs a bit
@@FaSMaN thank you for the advice. I remember having a similar read error issue a few years ago. I saw a video of someone showing how a certain metal part in the Wii gets bent out of shape over time due to leaving the disc in side the Wii for long periods of time while the Wii is laying flat. I can't remember if the wii I have now is the same one since my daughter and i have owned a few different consoles over the years. Anyways have you heard of this kind of issue before? Also we are hoping to be able to get my daughter a Wii U for Christmas, do u have any advice on potential problems to look for when buying a used WiiU?
my wii won't accept any game disk unless u turn it completely off( have red eye on power button) what might be wrong with mine if yellow or green light on power button disk goes in out in out and find disk on floor
I wonder how you'd reassemble the drive from scratch. I was trying to see how the Wii worked internally. Probably was't ready for that type of work...
Its not that difficult, I might do a full teardown when I have some time :)
So I put in a gamecube disc and it starts to run at first until I click start after that I hear a loud clicking noise then a error message telling me to turn the wii off. Have any idea what that is?
Chino M Something was in your disc drive or something got loose
What screw driver do I need?
How did they manage to put a Ben 10 cartridge in there?
phillips 1 and phillips 0
also triwing
11:03 Wii Startup Without Disc
I think your drive is running nice and smooth
What size tirade wing screw driver did you use for the screws under the rubber pads?
Its called a triwing screw driver, and if you look it up you will find hundreds of them on ebay for around $5 each
Fantastic repair video, thanks :>)
+Gregory Duffin thank you , I am glad you liked it :)
please tell me if I can still fix mine. In my country, Peru, the electricity of the outlet is 220V and I plugged my wii without the adapter ( not the gray Wii adapter, I mean in my country we call it "transformador" so foreign systems that require 110V won't burn with it and in USA you don't need that adapter) and seconds later the Wii turns off. I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't work. Is the Wii dead for good or the gray Wii adapter is burned? Can it work if I replace the gray wii adapter with a new one? Answer please.
+JuanJurris98 just buy a new 220v Wii power adapter (tray box) the Wii uses 12v regardless of region so you can use a local adapter, if it still doesn't work open the Wii and check F1 Fuse :)
+HPZeta thanx for replying, I'll try it out. Do you think it's a good idea if I use my friend's Wii cables replacing his Wii with mine just to check if it still works?
Yes if you have a friend you can use his power adapter to test :)
Love your commentary mate! Not sure what’s wrong with mine so I’ll watch a few of your vids and maybe will get obvious! Good stuff! Thanks for being a soldier & posting these 😎
Mine keeps going black for a few seconds than flickering back on for a few seconds over and over. Is there any fix for that or is it broken?
The drive is not working don’t suck the disc don’t spin the disc even don’t ejected, any idea what is happening?
Great tutorial! I was wondering if you could help me, too. My discs spin but make a quiet clicking sound and lever load until it tells me to eject the disc and restart the wii. I've tried cleaning the lens and moving some parts around but I can't figure this out.
Bridget Burley exact problem I have
+Darren Connelly open the console up and have a look if the drive properly drops the mechanism down to hold the disk in place , if it doesn't it can do that , most of the time it means there is a busted gear or something stuck in the mechanism.
If it is fine mechanically replace the laser.
Me too bruh
I was wondering if you could help me! I just got all new cords for mine so the cords aren’t the issue. When I plug it in the red light comes on but then when I hit power or eject it sounds like it’s gonna turn on for a split second and the disc area lights up blue but then immediately everything shuts off and then I have to unplug everything and replug everything in to get the red power light to come on.
nice video.do you have a video on changing out a gamecube card reader on wii console?mine is damaged needs replaced.also a bad reset button issue on wii console.
We have a black screen issue with our Wii. It turns on, I press "A" on the initial screen. I get the full Wii Menu. But if I click on the disc icon (Wii Sports for example) OR if I click on Mii Channel, the next screen comes up (with, at the bottom, the options Wii MENU OR START). When I choose START, the screen goes black. At this point even pressing the power button will not turn off the Wii. If I unplug, then replug, the Wii is usable again, but I only get just as far as I described above. Any guidance you can offer would be most appreciated. Or perhaps I could send it to you to check it out. We currently have the Wii taken apart, but I do not see anything that might help. All I could think of was maybe to disconnect then reconnect the plugs that connect into the disk drive.
Sounds like there is some iOS corruption, I would try modmii and do a full system restore gbatemp.net/threads/best-way-to-mod-any-wii-modmii-for-windows-official-support-thread.207126/
I dropped a Wii console and now it doesn't show image when turned on. What might be broken in it?
If you drop it it could be a lot of things, if the cable was plugged in while it dropped I would check the video port at the back to see if its not damaged, else check the little bluetooth module in the front of the console, if it came loose it will give you a black screen
The screws fell out of the bubble wrap did you see them
I don’t know what’s wrong with my Wii. It’ll turns on and all that. But then that error pops up saying to take the game out and turn it off. I don’t have a clue what’s wrong with mine.
Wii no sound,please help
My wii will only read discs if all the covers are off. I think those plastic snappy things on the disc drive cover are messed up
Would you mind fixing my wii it doesn’t light up at all except for when you click it to power it on on, the disc reader doesn’t sense anything. -Skylar
I would check the 3 surface mount fuses on the disk drive as a start :)
PS what country are you from?

My Wii's green light turns on, ejects discs, but nothing shows up on screen. I had a 3rd party ac adapter for awhile it stopped working recently. I just got an original Wii ac adapter. Do you the 3rd party as adapter may damaged my Wii and what do you think the problem is?
I also have the same problem where the sound shows up but I used the official Wii ac adapter
Mine says "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
No help from manual.
Any ideas, I opened it up and didn't notice anything. I did find a small piece of plastic which I believe is a hinge piece from the broken door on the side.
Put in a disc and it spins for a short time and quits.
Does it get to the Wii main menu? If so it's probably the laser it will better just to buy a whole new drive from aliexpress

My wii just spits out the game it doesn't even get to say can not read or anything
Hello. I have an original release day White wii with broken disc drive and looking for hopefully solution w/out needing a hardware repair. I am over 13 and have no young siblings or would ever shove things in the drive. And I'm not sure if you know about hacked wiis? but any help will be best! So there's 2 wiis in my house, White and Black. The black one has been dropped accidentally number of times but still works perfectly, no issues playing games or errors. The old white one I modded with BootMii and Homebrew a few years ago, also installed a GameCube loader at one time which broke the functionality of disc reading. I think I could have fixed that then tho with a patch, but as I recall before I even put mods, the Black wii would give disc error messages with many GC discs during gameplay. The reason for that was bcuz there were deep scratches on them, but I've tried to no avail to make them read on the White one. When I load any disc (GC or Wii) in its drive and click on the channel it will always say unable to read, which just baffles me.
Today I decided to pull out this white wii again and attempted cleaning the inside of the disc drive several times with alcohol q-tips (which was filthy), absolutely no luck. Plz note that I do not have a tri wing screw, therefore can't open it. Is this a hardware issue? It's high possible and is there any way to fix these problems w/out opening? However, if it was caused by system IOS patches in Homebrew, I'd be grateful of further info. Thanks.
With Hacked Wiis, I'd go for a softmod (modifying the software of the system)
Also, you need to open it up if you want to fix it.
Hi. How can I contact you? I have a consol that needs repairing. How can I send it to you?
Hi Illana, sadly I don't take consoles in any more. Because I am from South Africa and most of the people viewing the videos are overseas it makes it unfeasable. Of your in South Africa , try Defcon5

Great repair job HP. Cheers
They stuck the game in tried to get it out with the stylus then it also got stuck happens all the time
What was the last piece u took off before u opened it up..
Hi can you be a bit more specific ? Maybe the time code?
Okay so when I put in Mario Kart in my wii, it will play for a bit, then it will stop and not play for a good few weeks, and I've tried purchasing multiple clean and no scratch Mario Kart discs and they all do the same thing. However, when I play other games, they all play perfectly. My wii is really noisy and makes click noises when I put in Mario Kart. Any advice?
My Wii takes the disk then ejects it. That's the only problem I have. Will this fix it?
Can't say for sure, the only way to tell is to open it up and have a look
Hello. I didn’t watch your video yet. I just have a question: I’ve had my Wii for a while and when I wanted to play with my kids, the Wii won’t suck in any discs. It keeps coming out. What can I do. Do I have to take it apart bc I really don’t want to do that. If I have to, I will. Ty.
Hi , I suggest watching the video, it covers several things that can cause the problem you are experiencing.
@@FaSMaN ok, thank you so much for replying 😁 there’s a lot of screws to be taken out. Lol. I just hope I can put everything back together.
Mine quit reading disks about a month ago. Well, it was slow. It had zero trouble, then it stopped reading and I needed to eject the disk and reinsert it during gameplay, then it started doing that so many times in a game I had to shut it off before I wanted to huck the thing. Now it won't read any disks. None. It only started acting this way in about the last month or so. Everything else works well. It does make some noise when it starts, and when it wants to read the disk. Sounds like shifting in there (not a higher and lower pitched whirring, not even a clicking sound really...). The disk spinning doesn't make noise that I can tell.
Honestly, I am afraid of opening it up, but I think I might have to. I do have a toddler that might have put something inside. I really hope not.
+Sab I Am I would open it , it could be a few things , a dirty laser, something stuck in the drive or the worse case a failing laser, all of which is very easy to fix :)
Thank you! I am going to see if I can find myself a triblade screwdriver and attempt this. For now, we will continue to use it for our Netflix. My Wii system is from early 2008. It plays gamecube (well... not lately. That was the first thing to fail). I even still use my gamecube system, haha. I have a wii u, but I prefer my wii which is on my main floor. The wii u is in my basement, and I just don't like going down there. Kids play it more than I do.
hey if u fixed the wii tell me what you did please, i am having the same problem
I haven't been able to get a triblade screwdriver. I thought my brother had one, but he doesn't seem to know where it is. Thinking we may buy one and a laser online or something. Cleaning the laser with a disk cleaner did not work.
Sab I Am look up them on eBay,they are like at the most 8$
I have 2 wiis that need fixing. They say they can't read disks and make a noise similar to this one when reading. Any advice for someone trying to fix it on their own? Thanks!

Hi first thing to do is just to open it and do a good visual check, especailly for debris or the gears preventing the system from taking a disc, I dont really fix consoles for other people anymore where are you situated?
@@FaSMaN Hi! Sounds good. I just ordered the special screw driver so I can take a peek! I am from the USA. If the gears need to be lubricated what do you recommend using? Thanks!
@@nicolezalewski5548 I dont think you will need much more than clean the drive, the gears sometimes fail but this is rare, for cleaning a good plastic compatible lithium grease , amazon sells it in the USA :)

My WII not powering on. I tried unplug the cables and wait for some time plug back in and changed panasonic 3V battery too. But no luck. Are you able to fix mine?

Thanks For making this video.
The Last time i've reparing a wii i found a small tv remote and a cd in the dvd drive 😂
Slender13 Lol funny
Hi, my wii is not spinning discs. Can you help?
+Trevor Froude did you checi the two fuses at the back of the dvd-drive they sometimes pop
HPZeta how to repair that?
Would you be able to fix my wii?
My wii won’t show up on any of my TVs. I’ve tried everything thus far. Still nothing and no sound either
Presuming its not a software problem (accidental bricking) it could be the Bluetooth module failed , the wii will output a black screen when that happens, they are fairly cheap, its located right next to the SD card socket it will be smaller of the two little removable boards (other one is Wifi). If it still doesnt work it could also be the video output chip on the back of the board but that is extremely rare, and I would then recommend just replacing the motherboard as they are dirt cheap.
U can use a flat screw on a triwing
hey my wii’s not working it turns on,everything fine but when i put a disk in the wii it says “Disk not found” and it starts making a clicking sound. How can i fix this?
Sounds like the laser, I would just clean it and try again, possibly needs replacing
Yeah it will be the laser that does that
there’s a problem with my wii i hope u can help:( after inserting a disk and at the part where it’s supposed to be reading the disk the screen turns black suddenly 🥺
maybe replace the laser?
My wii doesnt even shows the light on the power button this was ly childhood how can i fix this
Well I would start with the basics first , can you swap the power supply ? If you don't have a spare power supply check with a voltmeter that it is outputting 12v , if so move on to the more advance stuff like checking the Wii internally it has a big fuse called F1 that might have broke
My Wii seems to need new capacitors.
GREAT VID.. YOUR GREAT.... BUT LISTEN MY WII WILL NOT REMEMBER THE NETFIX PASSWORD IS THERE A LITTLE BATTERY THAT CAN BE REPLACED..
Hi Frederick, if you lay your WII flat on the table there's a small cover on the right side. On the cover there's one of the rubber foots and it's locked with a small philips screw. If you remove the screw, you can pull the cover and with it the back up battery will come out. It's a regular CR2032.
Frederick Little Netflix doesn’t work for the wii like it used to
I went as far as removing the face plate but I don't want to go any further.
I own one from 2007 or 2008. It won't Sync my new wii balance board. I've just watched a video and I'm gonna see if it works. Cool video man keep it up!

HPZeta HPZeta I cleaned it and it reads games, but in the middle of loading it was stop spinning the CD and then give me an Error. I’m sure it’s not the laser
I just don’t know what to do at this point
My disc drive is utterly messed up not gonna lie. Sometimes, it likes taking the disk, stalling, then spitting it out onto the floor. There is a video of it. ruclips.net/video/YDFQItAfHwA/видео.html When it does play, the disc drive just buzzes loudly, but runs fine otherwise.
mkmeister1 I think there’s roaches in it
I lost it when you said maybe your camera is racist against white.
How on the world children fit a ds game card and a stylus on this console it is very stupid
I got a worser problem My Wii is jam packed with discs
Bチpokycraftgamer9/supergamerboy12 if you have a look at the side of Wii drive there is a drive belt, I would suggest removing the top off of the drive and turning the gear the belt is attached to till it ejects the discs enough so you can remove them, if that fails you will need to complete disassemble the drive from the top down, it's not easy but do-able
The fault on my wii is stripped screws 😒
jasher Clark those are the worse, if your lucky you can screw it out using a thick rubber band stretched over your screwdriver tip, but I had to drill one out becouse everything didn't work
HPZeta nothing worked for me so I was wondering how to drill it since the screw is really small
jasher Clark first check if it's safe to drill the screw out , like don't drill it if it's one of the screws holding in the DVD-ROM, then get a drill bit that's slightly bigger than the saft, and use a handril to drill out the screw, by simply pushing it into the center of the screw.
It's not pretty, it could damage the case, but if it's the only way to get into the case you don't have a choice
HPZeta would I be able to put extra screws in place of them if I get them out?
Sadly it will destroy the post so you won't be able to
Is it true that your Wii can crash because of dust or cigarette-smoke?
I kinda understand theoretically it could happen, but in practise did Wiis ever die because of these reasons? Anyone?
+pietje bel never seen one die becouse of it, but dirty lasers will give you disc read errors and freezing in games.
+HPZeta, but what about the Virtual Console / Wiiware games?
U should at least still be able to play these i think.
The Wii is a very solid console, i would hate if it broke down on me, and i would lose all these Virtual Console games.
(i know you can't transfer them to another Wii)
pietje bel if it freezes in WiiWare and virtual console games it's not a dirty laser or dust something else is wrong
+HPZeta: i am not really talking about freezing, i just mean if the system just shuts down or something. Technology failing.
I guess u lose all your purchased Virtual Console games etc.
All your money is gone.
pietje bel Yes, you lose them all. You can only transfer from Wii to Wii U. I know the Wii Shop Channel uses accounts, but I don't those are transferrable between Wiis either.

Hi Zeta, great video and thanks for the tips!
While trying to repair the wii, this happened to me: ruclips.net/video/kqmx8RkhsS0/видео.html
I was wondering if you may have an idea at what the cause is.
Not sure to be honest, does the disc match the consoles region, it definitely tries to authenticate the disc
Hi, thanks for the quick response.
The wii is NTSC-U and the disc is also corresponds to that. I have multiple North American discs and all give me the same end result. I have seen the wii click the disc around 5-10 times instead of twice in the video I showed you
Thanks again
Multiple clicking normally indicates a bad laser, have you tried cleaning it with some 99% alchole and dropping the pot a tiny little bit?
I have 91% rubbing alcohol, but am not sure if i clean it properly. I had a cotton swab and rubbed a dab on it and then cleaned it with the dry end. I have no idea how to drop the pot in the wii though
91% is fine, just dab a little bit of alchole on the bod and clean the laser with it, for the time being test it without dropping the pot

Hi Kate, I am in South Africa so sending it here will cost a small fortune , not to mention sending it back, you can pick up a new drive on eBay for about $19-35 and simply swap the drive it's extremely easy and you can follow along on the video
