I bought an E1D-SP at the Acoustic Shoppe booth at IBMA. It was supposed to be a decent "beater" guitar to take camping, but unfortunately it sounds so good and different from my other guitars that I don't want to risk damaging it. So now I have to buy an actually bad guitar that I won't care about. Thanks Eastman for foiling my plans.
I own a Gibson J-45 and three beautiful Martin guitars; a D-28, a 000-18 and a 00-15m and I love them all. But every now and then you want to try something different. Maybe you just want a cheaper guitar to play near a campfire, or you want to experiment with different tunings (Nashville or C natural for instance). Sometimes it’s fun and I’m happy with the result, but I was never really satisfied, because you keep comparing them with the Gibsons and the Martins. Until I recently bought a brand new crazy cheap Eastman E10M Classic. I couldn’t believe it! That thing can easily be compared with the big ones. I’m still amazed by the quality in every aspect. And it looks amazing! I’m not a wealthy guy, so I can’t keep saving everything I earn for that other dream guitar. But this is the first time when I feel I don’t have to look at a Martin, or a Gibson, or a Taylor, let alone the boutique stuff. This is really good and fun to play. 😊
I have had my the E1 OM CE for almost a month now...still trying to figure out hoe they got so much sound out of a small body. It stands alone at jams not plugged in. I love the tone when I get in church before everyone gets there and I get to play it unplugged, it files up the room with very rich sound and tone, plugged in, you will think it is a $2.000+ guitar! This makes the 3rd Eastman I have bought from TAS in less than a year and I love them all!
I purchased an Eastman E1OM SP from the Acoustic Shoppe about two months ago and was completely pleased, not only with the guitar but the whole buying experience. Having not had any previous hands-on experience with Eastman, I was going on their reputation. I did not have an OM or OOO in my collection and I have always loved the sound of Sapele and the appearance of Quilted Sapele. The price of the Martin models of the same were out of my price range. What surprised me the most was the tone, volume and balance this guitar projected. The only problem it created for me is that now I want to look into other Eastman models.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on the OM and for supporting us! In the early days of the shoppe we also slowly started growing our own personal Eastman collections. They just make it so easy to have a wide variety of a collection for less!
Thanks for the review! I actually bought the E1OM-SP last week! And for me it's easily the best guitar value at this price range because it ticks all the boxes. On the categories you rate I give it all a 5! I was lucky I got it next day after my local dealer had it in. He actually hand pick it himself from the distributor for sound balance. And came perfectly setup with nice low action. This thing is a beast! In terms of tone having the TC top and the Quilted Sapele I can tell you I can easily compare it to guitars that cost twice as much! Also I don't know if it's just my guitar sample, but the Quilted Sapele back and sides is not just for the looks. To me me it sounds better. It gives more power and depth! I directly compared to a new E1OM-TC (so normal model but with TC top) they had also just had in and I was surprised about the difference! And I've tested before the more expensive TC Eastman models and I don't feel I'm missing anything on tone apart from the Adi top models which seem to have even more projection and volume if you push them. But for the way I play which is mostly fingerstyle there is no meaningful difference. It's all there, richness, clarity, responsiveness, sustain, volume, balance. Really happy with it! EDIT Febr.2024: Funny thing is I didn't realize at the time that these models have actually a longer scale length! So it's 25.4'' and not 24.9'' like the other OM models! That can explain some slight differences in tone, volume and dynamic range than the standard E1OM, other than the TC top of course.
I owned 2 eastmans an e2d and an e6dtc with alpine spruce. I had issues with both with quality control and i wasn’t ever fully happy with the tone of the e6dtc or the fretboard feel. A week ago my local shop had 2 of these in stock as well as 1 Yamaha ll16m among others in this kind of price range. Well after playing all of them I walked out with the Yamaha ll16m because not only was the resonance the best in this price range so is the tone and fit and finish. Very solid clean construction with superb pristine neck and fretboard feel. The tone is incredible and my definite opinion is Yamaha is the best value in any price range. Thing is unlike Eastman the luthiers at Yamaha plant in Taiwan are trained by Japanese master luthiers and it shows. The Yamaha ll16m was more punchy than the 2 Eastman e1d specials I played not to mention the notes blended better as well when strumming chords more clarity more smooth glassy like highs and more solid growl lows. Not sure what people see in Eastman after owning 2 of them. This is just my opinion based on my experience heck my gf who doesn’t even play says the Yamaha ll16m sounds way better more mature clear professional sounding than my more expensive Eastman e16dtc and I can truly say she’s absolutely right not to mention it feels way more professional. So for you to say there’s no other guitars at the same level as the e1d special just tells me you are just bias with what you sell or you don’t have enough experience with other makers to make that call lol. The real kicker is the ll16m doesn’t even have scalloped bracing and it still resonates and sounds better than my eastmans and the one in this review which definitely says some things for sure. I read a lot of complaints about eastmans quality control and haven’t read or heard anything bad about Yamahas quality control🤷🏼♂️
I also have both an E6D-tc (Alpine) and an LL16M, and I prefer the Eastman. I think the LL16M is a great guitar and the E6D-tc (Alpine) is an awesome guitar. I'm a huge fan of both brands and have many of both. Btw, The Acoustic Shoppe recently became a Yamaha dealer, and they've already gotten an LL16M in stock, and John has played it. There is a lag between when videos are shot and posted, so they might have shot this video before the LL16M arrived in their shoppe, or he might just feel that the E1D-special is a bit better. I admit that, like you, I also immediately thought of the LL16M as a counterexample to their comment about nothing comparing to the Eastman in this price range. I also think that the FG3 would be another contender.

@@nicolasmayrand7157 No, nitro has been outlawed in China because of it's environmental damages.
Thank you !!! Now i have to chose between the e6tc or e1dsp would be Nice a comparison,
@@nicolasmayrand7157Both are pretty incredible, if you have the money we would just say spring for the E6, the hard-shell case is well-worth the upgrade as well as having the thermo-cured top. Also many of us prefer the tonal characteristics of mahogany as opposed to sapele (but they are very very close). If you're not as focused on those upgrades, the the E1D-SP will suite you just fine!
We can definitely look to comparing them in the future!
Did I miss it? What was the prices for these guitars?
The OM and Dread are $779 and the OMCE is $879.
Where can I buy this guitar?
We sold through some pretty quickly the last time they came in but we have more on the way. Give us a call or email and we can put on the pre-order list!
cool
Yamaha is the other brand that is getting there with tone in this price range. You said that in this video and it has come to pass!
Too expensive for Chinese manufacture
