I can heartily recommend learning from the professor! :) The tricks I always liked to use when memorising the basic Korean vowels are: - The "ah"-sounds (ㅏ ㅑ) have the small horizontal dash [A]fter the long vertical ones, so if it's before (ㅓㅕ) it's the "uh"-sound - The "oh"-sounds (ㅗ ㅛ) have their small vertical dashes [O]ver the long horizontal ones, so if it's underneath (ㅜ ㅠ) it's the "ooh"-sound - The "ee"-sound (ㅣ) looks like an i, which makes ㅡ the "eu"
