- The Herald Of Finality. One of the bosses in Destiny’s most important raid ever lore wise. Who are they? Why are they randomly placed around the monolith of the Witness as it proceeds toward the Final Shape? Today we discuss and theorize.

It's Randal the Vandal
it needs to be randal the captain, he ate mario's mushroom
It's either Taniks or Randal the Vandal
Oh god.
@atheon- I mean, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that ol' Randal got a power boost from The Witness.
Gerald the Herald
Chelchis has to be one of my favorite characters from the lore, the Kell of Stone squaring up to fight Oryx after their Machine God just left and civilization crumbling, that has to take some massive balls
I don’t care what anyone says… it’s fucking Taniks
Agree
Taniks 3.0
Can't wait for Tanikes 4.3 in episodes 2 when we get Fik daddy back.
@@SeizeHerSalad Scaniks, Fikruls Middle Finger
@@SeizeHerSaladactually Taniks 6.0
To shut down any lingering comments: That is NOT Taniks
-Completely different head and armor shape
-Herald has 4 eyes (see 0:47); Taniks has 8
-Herald has organic arms; Taniks has mechanical ones
-Herald's cloak lacks Taniks' signature design and is shaped differently
-Taniks' head is still sitting in the tent on europa
Obviously, it's taniks legs that have been taken slapped onto some random dude. His legs are still MIA.
At this point Taniks could have his head replaced, given his "Ship of Theseus" body
@@Kurotaisa Interesting point!
Continued identity theory
This solution (proposed by Kate, Ernest et al.) sees an object as staying the same as long as it continuously exists under the same identity without being fully transformed at one time. For instance, a house that has its front wall destroyed and replaced at year 1, the ceiling replaced at year 2, and so on, until every part of the house has been replaced will still be understood as the same house. However, if every wall, the floor, and the roof are destroyed and replaced at the same time, it will be known as a new house.
Taniks' head and legs were lost on Europa, so those would have to be replaced if Herald is supposed to be Taniks. His arms were lost at an earlier point, so those would have to be a replacement too.
The only thing unaccounted for is his Torso. There's no evidence that Herald's torso isn't taken from Taniks' corpse, but there's also no evidence that it is.
Seems like this whole Taniks = Herald theory would be like saying you have a 2 story house in one place, it gets destroyed and you rebuild a 3 story house in a different place, then claim it's the same house. If we accept the continued identity theory, that is.
Also, some observations about how Herald and Taniks fight:
Taniks will flee and avoid a confrontation whenever possible. When we first meet him in DSC he immediately runs off to the morning star, and only stands his ground once he's cornered in the morning star's control room. The same goes for his boss fight, he's both cornered and no longer has legs to run away with.
His nightmare hunt is similar and I believe his D1 appearances are the same, altough I haven't played those.
Herald faces you the moment he lays eyes on you, and even calls you into the middle of his arena to fight him.
It seems like Herald enjoys the fight and does not seek an alternative, while Taniks withdraws and only fights when he has to or if he has a significant advantage (nukes).
More facts suggesting they are in fact completely different people.
Or or he could be modified version of randal the vandal
It’s fascinating there’s a named raid encounter boss with not a lot of lore for them. Hopefully we get more in the future.
Another interesting piece of evidence pointing to the Herald being Chelchis is the fact that the track that plays during the fight begins with a sequence of notes that is very reminiscent of music from the Taken King, possibly suggesting that there's some kind of link.
It's part of the taniks theme from d1
@@lorddiamond1174 Is it? Honestly it's been a really long time since I played that stuff but I swear I remember it being played in Regicide or some of the other missions, and even if it is, remember Bungie does love their red herrings.
That is just the taken king motif, you hear it almost everywhere when taken are involved
7:09 actually when looking into the model in blender it is in fact a berserker model just covered in dread parts.
After getting a closer look at his face, he looks like the eliksni equivalent of Griffith to me.
*GRRRRRRIIIIFFFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTHHH*
Don’t you dare speak his name!!!
Another thing is all the dread enemies are based of disciples or champions of the witness. We haven't seen what the grim was based off so there still might be another disciple out there.
ope, my man's too quick on grabbing those pyramind pickups 👀 7:40
When I was at this Enconter I did come up with the Idea That it was Chelchis. Didn't expect others to come to the same conclusion.
I thought it was just a member of the House of Salvation. I always thought the Kell Echo from Prophesy was Chelchis being taken. If Chelchis was finalized into what we see now? That’s interesting. Also black armory? No that’s augmented plus Kell’s Scourge was absorbed into House of Salvation under Eramis.
The Kell Echo was symbolic of Eramis
kell echo can pretty much only be eramis because it’s meant to be a literal prophecy of what happens next (e.g. the desert area has sunken portions of the planets that got taken away)
Maybe this being was something of a general. Maybe "Disciple" and "Herald" are terms that are like ranks in the Witness's army, with Heralds being above Disciples. This could also explain why the Witness would decorate the arena with statues of the fallen Disciples, because it puts this Herald above all of them - after all it uses similar imagery to mock guardians later in the raid, so there is meaning to the use of the fallen Disciples.
I think it is an eliksni that's obvious but its also a hybrid dread. It's a spliced together being that the witness created showing its mastery over living things. Splicing three different things together, a fallen captain, also taken, and with an unknown dread creating a being that is perfect loyalty to the witness.
I hope eventually down the line they let us access the monolith again for some missions and it’s to discover what it is. Especially what the herald was. We can theorise but nothing will be concrete till bungie gives us a hint.
That kinda makes me lean towards it being Chelchis. He stood toe to toe with Orxy during the Whirlwind, lost, obviously, but he was either Taken by Oryx and later finalized by the Witness into a Fallen Dred hybrid
The helmet shape for the boss is very similar to the D1 Archon and Kell helmet designs, just transformed to resemble the Dread appearance.
My go to options are three, two out of nostalgia (could be since we are in the pale heart and facing the very end of everything) and one out of appearance:
Riksis, the first Archon we face back in d1, he also has a similari head shape but eight eyes;
Draksis, the first kell we meet in d1 (and also revenge for exo farming implication), also has the same head shape as Riksis, but the eyes seem to be four;
Aksor/Nirix, four eyes, being taken so he can come back and be transformed half in dread style.
All of these share the weapon (lord of wolves archetype) as fallen captains.
Must be someone really important and strong if it's the only other boss in the raid. You would think with the witness there it would be something like Rhulk or Nezerec.
Hopefully one day we fight "The Perfect Raven"
Chelchis is the neatest idea... and what if the memories of the Witness and the Light of the Traveler do something with him? And he's another Echo? Eventually? Could be interesting.
One thing i got in my head now is that quite a few of beings in destiny(mainly enemies.) that have some control over themselves But wasn’t sloane partially taken too? And to what end and difference?
Given the Herald of Finality armor design is reminiscent of Rhulk's Armor so the Herald of Finality could very well be a Disciple
It would seem possible. I may not remember much, but I do remember some of the lore about this from d1. Different references to the fall of the house of stone. Slain from the calamity of the Whirlwind and then taken by Oryx. It would explain how he already had taken Eliksni when we first encountered the taken on Phobos.
The herald’s helmet is close to the PoE Titan helmet
Is there any way to rescue taken individuals? We did with one of Maras Techiuns. If it IS Chelchis, brother deserves to be freed.
dont forget to look at the taken eye, its bluish white. The same as the taken made by oryx. The taken made by the witness have orange and red eyes. Very curious
Perhaps we might not know this fallen. But one of our eliksli allies might. A way to strike fear and suffering into them. Make the eliksni who have turned on it pay. Perhaps mithrax mother, erimis mate or someone the spider actualy felt connected to in a meaningful way
Bungie never nerfs boss feet do day
It's a fusion of both, Tankchis, Herald of Finality
We already know the prophecy end room is a hint to the first part of the campaign so it could maybe be the captain there idk I’m not a lore guy here
He’s the one from the prophecy dungeon.
Missed opportunity for the boss to be «Taniks Repurposed»
Hey.... wait a minute, that's Verity music! Not Herald music! Good choice 👌
Harold, The Herald of Finality
The Witness made my goat Tanniks into a disciple because the Witness knew Tanniks is simply stronger than him
i guess a berserker in grim armor
I think it is a mix of other fallen
W video
maybe it’s the kell of stone
Maybe he was taken by Oryx, considering that he's half taken the witness could have very well finalized him too
Unlikely. Kell of Stone was stated to be tall enough to throw hands with Oryx, and the herald is way too small for that. Due to the shape of the helmet, it could be Taniks again or even Riksis.
@@Langrange- dont forget that oryx in the raid was big bc we were in his throne world, herald was prob the size of regular oryx
@@Langrange- Oryx in the raid was only as large as he was because he was in his throne world after he was beaten.
So it's...not Taniks Perfected?
it's taniks
He was killed by Oryx he turned into a taken
Eliksni, no legs, it's Taniks.
it’s taniks
Was not turned into a TAKEN
Bro's legs are taken and upper body is "final shaped" fallen. That screams Taniks.
kinda disappointing realizing we got a buff fallen captain basically on day 1
I just think it’s taniks cause he has the same gun
Taniks isn't the only fallen to use the same Solar shotgun. Besides, last time we fought taniks he had a scorch cannon. No shotty.
we just wanna accept its taniks for the funny
It's Taniks.
End of discussion.
My headcanon: he will always be taniks, he is the final shape
Its taniks just accept that fact
This looks nothing like taniks
Uses different base fallen geometry
Has a different number of eyes
Different head and armor shape
Uses a different weapon
Missing any of taniks' iconography
The only taken part of the herald are the legs, the only part of taniks that couldn't be taken
But sure its taniks why not
bungie is well aware of the jokes made around taniks and if it were him the boss would be named or an item named after taniks yet there’s nothing.
I know which fallen it isn't
KEKSIS THE BETRAYED
Maybe it's Kelgorath
He got demoted and you can actually find him roaming near the impasse and he is now "Kelgorath, Vestige of Failure"
Kelgorath is hive
@@Dacire11bro tried his best
@@omage3457 you would think he would stop trying after losing to us 5-6 times lol
Dumb they didn’t drop a lore for it
First also how do you play dual destiny
To unlock it, you need to do all Overthrow's and find Savathun's Hive Guardian (spawns after you kill the final boss), it's a 50/50 if it can be done across multiple days, but I'd recommend doing all 3 at once, either due to a waypoint, or find it (I recommend a video for it), you'll need to grab 1 light orb, and 1 dark, and carry it quite the distance, (but you can drop one, carry the other, drop it rinse and repeat, bug keep in mind, if it's on the floor long enough, it goes back to where you found it), and to get INTO it, you need a second person (but only 1 other, Fireteam finder, or any discord servers made by Destiny content creator, you'd find people who'd help you)
@@varisrevolver4061 Thx
Its just another Taniks once again 🤣
Nah it's Taniks.

Remember when our lore cards for raid bosses were as good as Warpriest’s and Golgoroth’s? *sigh*
