This, no shit, has to be one of if not the best final boss themes or actually all boss themes I've ever heard. I literally played this to some of my friends and when I told them it came from a Terraria mod they looked at me like: O.O
God I love calamity so much. And massive respect for DM Dokuro for going through all the shit and pressure the 9yo community has given him. I don't think it is even possible for me to forget about this mod and especially not it's music ever again. I will die with this shit jamming in the very back-end of my brain. Somewhere...
It makes no sense honestly. DM Dokuro is literally so goddamn skilled it’s absolutely crazy. Toby Fox is excellent, but honestly DM should be the indie music creator getting contracts with AAA gaming studios. I may be gushing a bit but DM is a literal master of his craft. He’s the heart and soul in the Calamity mod, and it shows.

@@achillesmalamug7115 Yeah. The fan base treated him like crap and essentially refused to let him make variety content and would get mad when he didn’t make Terraria music. They then attacked him and bullied him for leaving the Calamity project.
Along with stuff that’s just been going on IRL for him for a while, it just was a disaster and he refuses to ever touch anything relating to Terraria again.

Do you really believe the Terraria fanbase in its entirety treated him badly? Not even a small part of the fanbase did, something like a group of kids or something. This annoys me. His community and the Calamity Mod community were VERY supportive and respectful, and he was highly regarded everywhere else, even outside the Terraria fanbase. I had never seen a bad comment in his comment sections from before he turned them off, ever, only seeing praise and people excitingly talking about the music, the leimotifs and where the song played in the mod. An ocasional "where's supreme calamidas theme" perhaps, but not a disgusting amount of them, and they where not in bad faith.
The more people keep saying that the fanbase did something, the more it hurts, because the fanbase is actually not bad at all and filled with amazing, friendly people who deeply care. Dokuro definitely just wanted an excuse to move on from this project, he was no longer excited about it and understandably, he had never done something so long lasting as the Calamity OST. I wrote this to simply dismystify this claim that the fanbase treated him badly. We all really respectfully enjoyed and still enjoy the music he puts out, whether it's Calamity or not.

@@singlehair9952 dude, i'm currently doing an all trophy range only run and currently done everything till astrum aureus (the big crab astral boss) he's actually tough to take down with my current range setup but it took me only 78 skeletron kills for his trophy... fucking 78 kills so i had to wait 78 times for the fucking clothier to spawn, atleast supreme calamitas is an instant summon and a fun fight to boot.

I really like how this song is divided into four parts as it resembles the battle as a whole.
Grief: Cal is overpowering the player, grinding their confidence to a halt, but also reconsidering her evil ways caused by her manipulation by Yharim.
Lament: The playing field is equalled and the player is now wondering if all of this is worth it. So much needless death and pain has to come to an end, but killing Cal may not be the best way.
Epiphany: The player is now inching ever closer to victory. Cal, now with nothing to lose, starts going all out in a last ditch effort to destroy the player before she gets killed herself.
Acceptance: Cal has begun to accept her loss in this battle and, although she's still trying, secretly knows the player will win. At best, she will finally be freed of the tyrant's control, as well as her brothers hopefully. At worst, all three will die from their wounds.
That reason plus the AMAZING choir, Dokuro's singing in Lament, and how tearjerking Acceptance is shows how great this song is and further emphasizes Cal's place as a tragic villain, and hopefully soon to be protagonist.
I agree! The massive amount of intensenes on this song with the foot different parts about each perspective is brilliant, the lament part is fitting imo since the fight (atleast for me) is hard as hell at parts.

There is always a community that is toxic and also death threats so impatient
Music likely isn't easy to make unless you want it really short and simple. Coding takes a while too. Even I, as an impatient in some cases but patient in others kind of person, understand that. You also need to have an idea of what you want to make, if you don't, you should try to come up with one. If you're coming up with it on the fly, that's fine, as long as you are doing a good job, that's fine with me personally. If it's rushed, it almost always will not be too good, and people may dislike it more than the finished version, but still not want it really fast.
To put it simply, nothing comes quick, not even ideas.
You know the song has two sides, one from the player perspective, another one from Calamitas perspective
The choir echoey voice is most likely Calamitas' inner monologue while the normal voice is the player's inner monologue
The player feels a bit of fear, anger, hate, madness, etc all human emotions while fighting a overpowered witch that from your perspective is unsalvageable and must be destroyed like all the other monsters in Yharin's army
Calamitas on the other hand feels disappointed in herself, she should be able to squash you in an instant but you're still there, punching back with just as much force, difference is you're not emotionless like her, she knows you'll win at this rate since you have way more at risk thus you'll inevitably push harder than she can
I believe at some point she also sees herself in you, well her old self before she became an inhuman Goddess of brimstone, that's why she eventually let's you win, she has more hopes that you'll beat Yharin than her, this wasn't her plan but it's either let the player continue their path or be pushed to the side by force by them anyways
Yharon's song is pretty similar to Calamitas song in that sense except Yharon was still loyal to the bitter end while Calamitas has been trying to get back at Yharin for years and then you come along and do WAY more damage to his army than her
I mean for real you kill his fucking pet dragon, Yharin evaporated an ocean for much much less, Calamitas must feel very concerned for your safety after you defeat her but it's not like she can stop you
This song is mostly sung from Calamitas' side, the player parts are at the very start, saying that we'll end it right now, no more killing coming from Yharim's army and the inner monologue at the start of Lament is the player reminding himself why he is doing this and how the fight is taking a high toll on him and that's mostly it from him.
The rest is mostly sung by Calamitas. In Grief she is singing about what happened, the threat the player is posing and her doubts about the battle but the last verses I believe they're said not to herself but to the player, questioning the path he's taken and his morals, because let's be honest, the player has killed some bosses that had nothing to do with Yharim. Then after the player's bit in Lament she starts to sing about her self disappointment and fear, most likely the background chorus is the curse Yharim put on her after her betrayal, then she starts to sing to the player again, how he's losing his mind in this madness of a clash, and a hint of how they probably before this started they were friends or they trusted each other, and the fighting makes the player mad not only because the fight is becoming savage but because Calamitas's betraying his trust, and the last 2 verses in Lament is her questioning if it's really worth for him to continue because at this rate he's going to sacrifice his humanity for beating her, who only caused this disagreement between them.
Epiphany is the climax of the fight, both giving it their all, no more speaking, no more doubt, no more reasoning, just carnage, the end has come in the form of a clash of fates, who shall emerge victorious from the end of the world to change it's fate and Acceptance is the answer, the player has won and the Brimstone Witch lost, after a few words Calamitas stops completely and awaits her end
Well after you listen to the song like 1000 times you start to hear it differently

Also, I’d like to point about the part of Calamitas that her mind is just crushed by the overwhelming force of Yharim, and what’s left of it is just few memories and emotions, constantly supressed by The Tyrant’s voice, and thus these are exactly what comes of her mind.

I have listened to this song, along with the entire Calamity playlist, so many times on Spotify it’s embarrassing. While driving, while studying, while coding, etc. Its just so varied while still being professional. And it rewards close listening, too - noticing motifs like the Brimstone Depths in this theme is a very rewarding feeling.
Sometimes I just close my eyes and imagine an animation to go alongside the track while listening to it. Somehow, it literally gets my blood pumping and goosebumps forming.
Parts of this are also in tale of a cruel world (this first song in the soundtrack)
I do that exact thing, ive always wanted to become an animator and i always imagine some epic things to go along with the music i like, especially things like this, and i cannot forget D.O.G Final Form

In phase 1, the lyrics are directed to Calamitas, as she is questioning her choices and morals.
In phase 2, the lyrics are directed to the player, as the player is stressing out and is starting to go insane.
In phase 3, it is more or less about the actual fight.
I think phase 2 is from the player directed to Scal brother or the player themself (like on third person perspective)

I’m doing 5 calamity playthroughs. I’ve gotten through 2, have 2 in progress, and need to start the last. I’ve made my own lore and story with all the characters as their stories are going on simultaneously and are indirectly and unknowingly helping each other.
The mage: Ice(named after me)
A young wizard who has witnessed and has been directly affected by yharim’s actions as he sent an attack on his northern village because the residents were planning to rally other villages to overthrow him given his village and the surrounding ones were made up of strong wizards. Being one of the few survivors of the attack and being fueled by a since of justice and revenge for the death of his brother and mother he sets out to put an end to his tyranny
The summoner: 3
Part of an experiment to create beings with, a great persuasive ability(that’s where her summons come from) as the scientists we hoping to use them against yharim. The lab ended up being abandon after yharim found out and sent an attack on it. All the beings were killed accept one. 3. Not knowing anything accept what was implanted in her mind her child like since of wonder conflicts with her since of being a warrior and one of the last hopes humanity has to put an end to the tyrant
The rouge: Alinavar (Alan-uh-var)
Was left homeless after a great disaster at her village. She was forced to fend for herself and steal from whoever she found to survive. She eventually learned of the great jungle tyrant and was determined to grow her strength and overthrow him so she could take his place. Not as a tyrant but in hopes no one under her would live like how she did
The melee: igneous.
A dead stone golem left in a forest after a great battle against something(haven’t figured out what boss they fought) eventually he was brought back to life by a mysterious person and was told about their next mission. To kill what was responsible for both igneous’s creation and the destruction of his brethren. Igneous grateful at his second chance at life took the mission and set off on his quest to end yharim.
And than there’s the ranger that I haven’t started yet. I’ll update when I do

Finished all of them(Rouge was a serious pain in the ass to complete)
The ranger: Vi (V)
A treasure seeker and bounty hunter, after successfully claiming many valuable and risky to obtain bounties she grew quite the name for herself to the point even Yharim was considering hiring her because of her potential and skill. That was until she took on the challenge of killing him. Instead of being hired and payed later she would just take his riches. Also not terribly important but Vi is a masochist and maybe loves guns and bows a bit to much. But as she’s going on this quest she is getting pleasure out of most of her boss encounters. I don’t know a part of me finds it funny that as she’s fighting the D.O.G. She gets hit and he’s all like
“Oh did that hurt”
And she just reply’s without hesitation just
“Yes, please do it again”
Eh maybe it’s gross, maybe it’s TMI but even before I started my range play through I imagined whoever was the ranger would be a masochist. Don’t know why. Oh and if you kill cal enough and you spawn her again the message

Also I picture they all eventually meet each other either during the lunar event or sometime in post moon lord. So they all take on things like yharon and sup cal together.

The aftermath
Ice: can rest easily now knowing his friends and family have been avenged. Goes on to pursue research in the Arctic on mysterious structures and forgotten magic spells. Becomes a power ice mage in the end
3: Can finally enjoy her life without the constant worry of saving the world. She lives in a small home near a lake with all her summons that she now takes care of as pets and friends.
Alinavar
Takes yharim’s spot after his death and becomes the new queen of the jungle. The kingdom becomes more prosperous and overall just better with her as their leader. Currently trying to mend the relationship with the brimstone crags as the brimstone elemental doesn’t recognize her as alinavar never fought her.
Vi
Retires from bounty hunting and now lives a relatively solitary life in the middle of a forest. Still uses her guns and bows for hunting purposes because as she says

She lives comfortably since any time she needs money alinavar happily supplies her
Igneous
Returns to the forest where he was resurrected. Meets back up with the hooded figure as they say
Good job, you can rest now, your mission has been completed.
Igneous than returns to the ground as his feet sink into the ground and his life force leaves the stone vessel. The rest of the gang meet up like once a month at the statue he left(he basically became a statue) to both meet up with each other again after they went their own ways and to pay respects to their old friend.
Now the story is complete. The tale of a cruel world has reached its end, and a new wave of hope for humanity has swept by.
Also if you want to know my favorite of them. It’s alinavar. I just like that everyone’s motivation is
Ice: revenge
3: because she was born to do it
Igneous: both reasons stated above
Vi: for a challenge and bounty

Now I have not so much a part 2, but kinda the same thing just a different story. I forgot revengance existed so I’m doing 5 more playthroughs and doing the same thing I did with the first 5 for these new 5 since it’s fun.
The mage: Lumos
She doesn’t have much of a story now, as I’ve just started and am on the mech bosses. What I do know is that she doesn’t have much confidence in her abilities and is very timid. She’s a gifted witch tho and she’ll learn how strong she truly is later in the story.
Her strength is noted as in this world and in my take of the story, extraordinary natural hair color can be a good indicator that whoever will be very strong in a field that they will learn later in life
Ice has scruffy light blue hair
3 had short blue hair
Alinavar has pitch black hair
Igneous technically didn’t have hair but the hair design sculpted into him was gray
And Vi has long yellow hair.
Lumos has short pale blue hair
Now I’m not saying they were born gifted in their field as I kinda hate that trope. I’m just saying that the universe can give a really calculated guess that with enough practice and determination they can truly exceeded expectations. But the universe has been wrong before. The hair is more so a mark that the universe has great confidence in their abilities. It’s still up to the person to take this sign, find out what their good at and truly role with it

Zamenth
A circus ring leader of sorts, overall just a popular entertainer, once their traveling show passed by yharim’s kingdom and yharim mistook them as a threat, sorta a Trojan horse kinda thing, anyways zamenth was off doing some other things as his crew were moving the show and he came back to see his crew and his stuff destroyed. He figured out what happened and swore vengeance for his crew, his loyal friends, and given he could never get into the kingdom to do a show he hopes that getting rid of the guy preventing fun and enjoyment would lead to him being able to preform more, he also beleaves that if yharim’s reign continues and grows it might lead zamenth never being able to preform again and as he says
“If I cant preform, if I can’t do my passion of spreading joy and inspiration to everyone I don’t have a reason to live, if I’m absolutely prevented from continuing that I would just kill myself”
So ya he either dies trying on this quest or succeeds being able to continue what he does. A win win scenario to him
His summons come from his time being a natural born leader and being able to control all sorts of creatures as he shows off many things in his shows so he has a pretty firm grasp on being able to control creatures.
His hair is a slightly dull green
I guess a fun fact of sorts, but zamenth, what he says about him being able to preform and entertain, that’s my stance. I really want to be an entertainer, specifically indie game developer and if I can’t do that, if something beyond my control prevents me from being able to do that I wouldn’t have a reason to live. It’s the only thing I live for, to make people happy with my creations and to hopefully inspire other people to do the same. It’s the one thing that gives my life meaning. I don’t want to loose that.
This is really starting to turn into a giant project all for some silly fanfic
And also same thing as the first story. Everyone meets up either during the lunar event or post moonlord

I’m just now realizing that if I struggled as much as I did in normal mode rouge I’m going to fucking hate revengance rouge. But anyways, it just now dawned on me that I don’t need to play the game to think of the other 3 characters so those might come in time. I’m still going to finish all 5 but I feel like the story will be done before that happens

I can't even begin to comprehend what did DM Dokuro in order to get so much undeserved hate for his work. This has to be one of the most unfair and ilogical experiences any artist has had to endure. To me, Calamity and DM Dokuro music are the same thing. One can not exist without the other, and this theme, alongside the Devourer of Gods, Yharon and others (but this in special) in the single best piece of videogame music i've heard in my entire life. And yes, I'm talking Michiru Yamane, Kondo, Uematsu, Sakuraba, Nakamura, Junichi Masuda, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Poor guy didn't even do anything, the "fans" just rushed and berated him to the point of mental torment which led to him leaving Calamity as a whole

Can you imagine what they'll do when 1.4 gets onto tmodloader? there are hints that draedon will become a new super boss (which would be sweet, fucking loved my journey when i was doing rouge only, granted only revengeance but i'm still happy i finished it, loved every fight past moonlord, before moonlord it's kinda a snorefest since they're tough bosses but somewhat easier to take down compared to the post moonlord bosses)
