“It is better to be feared than loved if one cannot be both.” When Machiavelli set out to define what made a good leader, he started a debate that remains relevant today. From football managers to army generals, school teachers to heads of state, maintaining reputation and respect from those you command is crucial. With fear and love such polar opposites, leaders have a choice to make. Which would you choose?
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus
Soneone tell the american that this isn't theatre.
A debate is alway theatrical. It’s a war on stage.
She talks like she's casting a spell
How does this grifter keep getting these invites?
She is a provocateur and not a thought leader.
That's it! You've hit the nail on the head.
She was dismissed within the first three minutes. The room's body language...
The arguments where valid, but the presentation was lost to the public. Not coherent but the points were there
On two or three occasions, she took audience questions, and then proceeded to actively dodge answering them directly, if at all.
She conflates the racial apartheid state’s fear of Mandela and King as equivalent to people’s fear of semi-autocratic leaders. The two are not equivalent.
100% correct! … both people named were motivated by love 4 all people & in return were loved by people from all over the world…so much so that we still feel their love today…
👼🏽
Next the Oxford Union will have Lil Kim of North Korea explain kpop and democracy.
Next one on the list - Octamom...
This lady didn’t really motivate any claim properly. Neither did she sufficiently answer any of the questions put to her. Rather, she used the tactics of ugly rhetoric to try and convince the audience in a way that is absolute anathema to any epistemological agent.
Well said!
Oh my Lord, she is so dramatic and impossible to listen to!
She is ridiculous yes?
Omarosa is probably one of the most eloquent speakers in the United States. This woman CAN TALK! However, this speech was terrible, and why is she talking like that? Her delivery here was awful. She was talking like a Harry Potter character.
Harry Potter. 😂
Yeah I don’t understand why she’s trying to mimick a British accent. 😕
chile,,,,,,
....WHAT!!!!....IS SHE TALKING ABOUT!?...NO HUMAN BEING SPEAKS THIS WAY IN 'real' LIFE...
