- Grigory Rasputin was killed in December, 1916. And in February of 1917 the autocracy in Russia collapsed. By decree of the provisional government the state Commission is set up to investigate the murder. The investigator Henry N. Switten questioned over a hundred and fifty people who witness of the case. Bit by bit he collects not only information on that terrible night, but the facts of life «the elder», filtering out all the rumors and speculation about his acts. Finally he has a grip who really was mighty favorite Grigory Efimovich Rasputin.

Such a great production! The casting, the set design/costumes. Despite historical inaccuracies, it is so good to see a film/series which shows Mr. Rasputin's gentle strength and spiritual character. (Unlike that obscenity, "The Kings Man", which I had to stop watching half-way through. )

According to this production Rusputin is not cruel character I feel that he was unseasonably jugded by media publications
Russia does that with their historical figures. They whitewash them. This is entertainment. Watch the Russian made documentary The Romanovs. It’s amazing but they also whitewash & sanitize their historical figures.
Many bad things that are written by them was based on propaganda by communists. Modern Russians have access to archives

The guy who played Rasputin also played Tsar Nicholas II in the 2011 movie, Rasputin.

Firstly thanks to the poster of the series for the English subs.
I wanted to watch it all before commenting.
I’ll give the series credit for cinematography and set design, however this script could’ve been written by a preteen. Rasputin may’ve indeed been a healer or a man of incredible sensory ability but the saintly way he’s presented here as nearly the polar opposite of his historical reputation simply lacks credibility and comes off as a bad attempt at propaganda.
Nothing about Rasputin’s characterization AS PRESENTED in the series was convincing enough to have as many complete strangers (many of which were worldly people) fold and bow to him immediately without an ounce of discernment or scrutiny applied whatsoever. He just kinda shows up and everyone just gives him whatever he wants… and the series expects the viewer to just accept that. Even with the intent of putting a different spin on Rasputin, most of the scenes were simplistic, woefully lacking in creativity and just not believable at all.

When the Soviets came to power, they heavily persecuted the Rasputin family. Many fled but the rest shortened and changed their name to Putin. They’ve been working behind the scenes for a long long time.

Очень интересное видео, спасибо. На канале "Кассеопия" смотрел видео с контактёром Ириной Подзоровой - общение с духом Распутина. Многое относительно его разложилось по полочкам.
От этого елейного сладенького шедевра у меня слиплось всё: уши, глаза и попа. Я понимаю, что целью и идеей фильма является желание выдать историю святого Григория и обелить как его, так и царскую семью... Перестарались. Слишком много льёте маслица, слишком много кладёте сахара.
а надо обязательно было очернить? как большевики делали? тогда бы вам понравилось, конечно..))

Too bad: the actor playing Rasputin is so completely miscast. He could play Jean Valjean in the Miserable, or Fyodor Karamatzov (although it would be a stretch) or the Count of Montecristo, but this guy doesn't have a single spark of metaphysical in him. It's all method-acting surface fake depth. AND, where is the light coming from his eyes? There are other actors in this series who, on looks alone, could have fit the part much much better.
I really cannot see the anguish, the despair, the shamanic communing with the forces of evil.
At most he looks like he can't have fun, has no sense of humor and thinks that being sullen is equivalent to being mystical.
