I have tattoos on each wrist, but long sleeves/makeup should cover them, so hopefully that won't become an issue. I've seriously been watching your videos on autoplay all day today! Right now, I work retail at a vitamins and supplements store, and I've done everything from tutoring college students at a local community college, to day care teaching, to waiting tables, working at a book store, even running my own online health coach business, etc. Unfortunately, I still haven't found my forever-career. Who knows? Maybe becoming a flight attendant could be my forever-career. I'm still confused on what exactly is the job description? Is it just being there for emergencies/serving airplane food/selling airline credit cards? I feel like there's an aspect of the job I have yet to see in anyone's vlogs lol Also, I still don't know how much flight attendants really make. Google doesn't really seem to know either. Kat Nesbitt said $15/hr and up. Is that true? I know this is SUPER long. I hope you can answer some of my questions. Thanks again!
I could do it if I needed but it wouldn’t be my first choice. For those who do this for a living keep it up the good work. I have been on flights with rude people and rude flight attendants. Patience is a key in this industry. It’s a tough job knowing you deal with certain people. Great video!

Hey Julia, I sure have say was very interesting on how times have change through the years. Anyways thanks for sharing this in deep history from the past to now. I absolutely appreciate it .

Jetting Julia what color of Tights or Nylons do you usually wear with your Flight Attendants Uniform? For I just think 🤔 that the Ladies Legs 🦵 already looks very Attractive with the Tights or Nylons on & That is all .
@@JettingJulia these days there is a standard weight for a crewmember which is used during planning as part of the Dry Operating Weight/Mass. Back in the day these calculations were done manually so knowing the exact weight would help with the weight & balance of a particular flight. the change of aviation as a sector over time is incredible
I work as a flight attendant in Russia. Most back in the day requirements are requirements today. We're supposed to have a feminine hairstyle (most airlines require you to have either straight short hair which doesnt touch your shoulders, if it does you have to make a bun), makeup is obligatory, nails are always done. But nails can't be too long because you might need to give a CPR to someone on board and you can accidentally scratch a body And yes, there are weight limits which means you can't weight more than a specific amount of kilograms (because you have to easily move along isles and take as little space as possible in case of an emergency evacuation. If something happens to you in this case and you're big - you become a huge obstacle for passengers. When you're slim you move easier and faster I know it sounds rude and intolerant but this is a matter of safety). Also, you can't wait less than a specific amount of kg cause most of the time it means you're not strong enough (for example for opening door with an engaged evacuation slide). A pleasing appearance is not necessarily a must but usually it is. There are height requirements in most russian airlines but mine doesn't require anything like that. Our flight attendants can reach overhead bins, medical amd emergency equipment just by stepping on the seat (there are special areas where you can step or sometimes something like a special step under the seat on the isle side) We're not required to shave our legs but if we don't I guess we're gonna be in trouble. You know, there are tights which are not really opaque and you can see hair in them. And for most russians it doesn't look nice. Some passenger will definitely leave a negative flight feedback We also have old flight attendants working but not too many, actually. But most passenger expect airlines to have young and beautiful ones. No piercing and tattoos as well (other than one hole per ear). In my airline it's even stricter. we're not even allowed to wear earrings and engagement rings
OMG how times have changed! Can't believe some of what was required back in the day! The "stewardess" term is one I admit to still use occasionally :) Girdle..I think my grandmother wore those. lol I tell you what is required..watching your videos! LOVING THEM!!

Thank you so much! Yes things have changed quite drastically for the better! & yes I can’t wait to hit 10k 🤩 thanks! Hope you have a fantastic week too.
I don’t know if many people remember this but a number of years back there was a TV show called “Pan Am”. It was a short lived series, I think about 10 episodes, but in several episodes the dialogue covered the requirements that needed to be met. One of the interesting things in the series, although I don’t know if this actually happened, is that stewardesses were used as couriers of secret documents. Remember that “Pan Am” was set in the time frame of the Cold War. Finally, a girdle was worn for much the same reason that Spanx are worn today. Girdles though usually came with straps that were used to hold stockings up much the same as a garter belt would. This predated the introduction of panty hose. For the most part stewardesses wore either skin-tone color or a nearly black color. In both cases it was easy to actually see if the stewardesses had leg hair. Also, if I am not mistaken, stewardesses back in the day were required to always wear high heels.
Interesting!! I’ve been a nurse for 25 years and I never knew the history of flight attendants! I loved listening to all the Interesting facts thank you
The tattoo one is really interesting here in New Zealand, particularly with facial tattoos. I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure that cultural tattoos are allowed in general for flight attendants (Māori, Samoan etc), but I’m not sure on the facial tattoos. Some Māori men and woman, the indigenous people of New Zealand, have cultural facial tattoos which are fascinating, but they are often wrongly confused with gang related tattoos. I must look that one up
Brilliant as usual. Julia, you are so creative. I believe that no visible piercings or tattoos should be a requirement for every job. I also believe that no one working aboard an aircraft should have any piercings - except for earrings.
Awesome video I think I can do it. I’ll just graduated from college with a bachelors degree in journalism as well and I am currently job hunting but great video.

From what you have described it sounds like the airline industry has come a long way. In my opinion they changed dress codes to allow jeans and polo shirts I would still be a very happy customer as long as flight crews at least are nice to the customer, As I said in a previous posting I feel the flight attendants do a phenomenal job.I think the most casual uniform I once saw was on a regional carrier where we had a single flight attendant on a small regional jet, he was wearing a polo shirt and shorts, which both of which were branded with the logo of the airline

Quite informative :-) I think the weight requirements come from the fact that back then the weight of a plane in general would matter as planes were not as large yet as today. Also I think, nylons were only available in light brown (skin color) and very thin back then so that the leg hair actually would show. I assume you're permitted to wear dark coloured nylons now but you are not required to do so, you could also choose light brown ones (or have them available as a replacement for broken nylons).
I have seen an ad for a flight attendant max height 5ft3 a little while ago but that was for a micro airline doing scheduled flights in 8 - 10 seaters.
Julia does your company allow commuting or do they require new hires to move to base? i assume if one were to commute it'd be smartest to choose a base thats closest to where you currently live? thanks for the videos!
Hi Jen! Some airlines don't allow commuting while on probation (first 6 months-1 year depending on the airline) so it all depends, however mine does! I HIGHLY suggest relocating completely if possible but you CAN commute at my airline. When I first started I commuted Denver to Miami, then transferred to Dallas so the commute was much easier. Enjoyable program. I have a friend who started working as a,"stewardess", for your airline in 1965. She told me that they were given white gloves at graduation. I understand that now some airlines give handcuffs to their graduates. Have you heard of that or maybe you aren't allowed to comment about this. Back in the 60's my friend said that sometimes at the end of a flight all of the,"stews", would sit down and cry because of the awful manners of the male passengers! She told me that she used to have bruises on her bottom from being pinched! I know that just can't happen nowadays! Please tell me that I am right! Would love to hear your comments if you have time to reply. As always, take care and Happy Travels! ♥️🛫🗺
Hi John thank you for always posting such thoughtful comments! I have only ever cried once after working a flight and it wasn't even from just one person specifically. It was after a very long delay with passengers on board then a cancellation at 2 in the morning and I was cussed at, boo'd etc. Not the best moment but I have never been pinched like that I would put an end to that immediately!
@@JettingJulia I bet any jerk who did that to you wouldn't be pinching anyone for a long time! I always feel so sad and upset when I see passengers verbally abusing airline staff over something that they have no control over, like the weather! Some people are so self-centered and entitled that it's ridiculous. Thanks for your kind reply.
Appearance as well as competency is important for many jobs. As a small biz owner I refrain from hiring smokers for example as it impacts the work environment. It’s a slippery slope but as an employer I feel I should have some restrictions/requirements.
Interesting video, not surprised by some of the requirements from the past. I'm a legal secretary and my firm used to have requirements that we had to wear skirts and no opened toes shoes, luckily that isn't the case anymore.
I wasn't surprised either, I know there are still some airlines in other countries who still follow those same rules. As flight attendants we cannot wear open toed shoes either but that's mostly for safety on the airplanes! It's amazing how much different careers progress!
if someone referred to you as a stewardess would you understand since that is the older name for a flight attendant? It sounds like most of the old rules sounds like they are very logical and fit for the time period. Generational differences whether we like them or not are simply a reality. I like the rules against tattoos these days on how they should be completely covered as tattoos are a disgusting thing to me but I understand other people like what they like.
Yeah I'm not offended at all! In other countries "flight attendants" are also called "air hostess" or "cabin attendant" so to me it's all the same as long as the way the language is used isn't meant to be derogatory. & haha I have a tattoo but it's on my back so no one will ever see it in uniform.
Hi Samantha! I use Loreal double extend mascara (comes in a red and white tube), you put the white mascara on first as a base then the black. I let that dry then use "maneater" as a second coat for extra volume from ulta!
Hi Imani, that's awesome that you want to be a flight attendant, it's a really fun career! :) I did let them know at my interview because they asked but obviously no one could see it because it was covered by my dress. During the initial resume application & video interview I specifically said I have "no visible tattoos." Thanks for watching!
My mother applied for flight attendant in the late 1940s. She was a registered nurse. She also had to be single , and weigh less then 130 lbs. United was going to hire her but she changed her mind lol
What is the degree of danger of being a flight attendant...Flying in dangerous weather...Mechanical issues...Fire and smoke during a flight...Icing issues...Extreme turbulence...Disruptive passengers...AND SO ON...✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️...
Your beauty is exceptional, your smart, well spoken, chipper personality and alluring in every way. Good question, I love working the 777 because it's a wide body aircraft and I just think it's so cool that such a large plane can fly such long distances! I used to hate working on the MD80 but that plane actually retired so good for me lol.
Bring back the golden age of flight. Where passenger was king and those onboard dressed appropriately, not like homeless street people. Need the cute little flying stews again!

I always feel so sad and upset when I see passengers verbally abusing airline staff over something that they have no control over, like the weather! Some people are so self-centered and entitled that it's ridiculous. Thanks for your kind reply.
What airline are you with? Are the requirements the same for all the airlines??
Sometimes, but every airline might have its own requirements
Appearance as well as competency is important for many jobs. As a small biz owner I refrain from hiring smokers for example as it impacts the work environment. It’s a slippery slope but as an employer I feel I should have some restrictions/requirements.
Agreed! I can't think of any job that doesn't at least have SOME basic requirements. Thanks for watching!
As far as someone who is 4’11 what is the likelihood that I will be able to be able to be flight attendant based on height alone?
Highly likely! I know plenty of flight attendants who are your height 🙂
She mentions it i the video, doesn't she?
I’m still 10 but I want to become a flight attendant
My mom was a stewardess in the fifties who had to quit because she married my dad.
Thnxxxcc for sharing trip
But in India still matter of weight for male and female
😚
Oh wow, I’ve heard in some countries the weight rule is still enforced that’s interesting, thanks for watching!
if someone referred to you as a stewardess would you understand since that is the older name for a flight attendant? It sounds like most of the old rules sounds like they are very logical and fit for the time period. Generational differences whether we like them or not are simply a reality. I like the rules against tattoos these days on how they should be completely covered as tattoos are a disgusting thing to me but I understand other people like what they like.
Yeah I'm not offended at all! In other countries "flight attendants" are also called "air hostess" or "cabin attendant" so to me it's all the same as long as the way the language is used isn't meant to be derogatory. & haha I have a tattoo but it's on my back so no one will ever see it in uniform.
@@JettingJulia is stewardess derogatory? I don't think so, but I suspect someone will find a way to say it is
not surprising, flights were for royalties back then!
Interesting.
Thanks for watching! ✈️
What mascara do you use?
Hi Samantha! I use Loreal double extend mascara (comes in a red and white tube), you put the white mascara on first as a base then the black. I let that dry then use "maneater" as a second coat for extra volume from ulta!
Jetting Julia ahhhh you’re the best omg thanks 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
"We've come a long ways baby" :-)
i'm 18 and want to be a flight attendant. :) did you let your airline know about your tattoo when/if they asked? btw loved the video!
You have nice channel
Thanks so much! ✈️
@@JettingJulia you welcome friend

Thanks for watching! ✈️
Weight checks for boxers and jockeys 🏇
For those careers though it makes sense, for a flight attendant there's no reason for a weight check! :)
You have nice chan
What is the degree of danger of being a flight attendant...Flying in dangerous weather...Mechanical issues...Fire and smoke during a flight...Icing issues...Extreme turbulence...Disruptive passengers...AND SO ON...✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️...
There is a degree of danger with this job, as there are with many jobs! However we are trained to handle all of those situations!
Your beauty is exceptional, your smart, well spoken, chipper personality and alluring in every way. I really hope your satisfied with your career, that it’s rewarding to you and I wish you utmost rewarding success as your a total pro and the epitome of ideal of what I think a flight attendant should be (classy, graceful and beautiful). -Joe Arcara Chicago (ORD).
What's your most favorite and least favorite airplane to work?
Good question, I love working the 777 because it's a wide body aircraft and I just think it's so cool that such a large plane can fly such long distances! I used to hate working on the MD80 but that plane actually retired so good for me lol.
wish they would still have the weight requirement. some cant even fit down the aisle. its awful.
Bring back the golden age of flight. Where passenger was king and those onboard dressed appropriately, not like homeless street people. Need the cute little flying stews again!
You look quite youthful being from the 1950s. Must be good genetics
